On a general note though, I wonder if some of the courts need to be quickened again - I'm not suggesting as fast as grass but not have them dog slow either, the tournament organisers will want the big epic matches and I suppose so do the viewers but for the players? There can't be much longevity in the game for those big matches if it's always such a grind for them against each other.

Kano
11-09-2012, 07:49 AM

This is where the pressure really is, they say winning your 1st one is not the problem its the ones after that. Muzza will be buzzing going into the aussie open but it would nt be a shocked if he got knocked out by some one like del P tbh.

I don't see why it has to be the end, i think the flood gates will open.....If Murray can best Nole on Hard Court in New York, he can do it in Melbourne as well.....i think Wimbledon might be a bit too much to ask....but you never know.
French Open?....will never happen.

Maybe getting to Number 1 in the World Rankings......deserves to be higher than fourth in my opinion.

Who knows but when Nadal is fully fit, he will be up there again, novak will want revenger for this and may see the ausie open as the way to get it. lets not forget he has won it 3 times already and will be wanting that no 1 status back.

Im sure muzza may get more slams but not more then the other 3 imo. Some may say he has been lucky or has had a lucky route.

novak wasn't at his best in patches, only because of andy's game.

there is no comparison with del potro. he has only played in one final and won it. murray has been and around the finals for years now and this is the final stepping stone toward more.

del potro is limited compared to murray in terms of his game ability - he has a long way to go to reach the top four level.

I do like to consume the hype. It's picking up slightly now that more have caught onto the fact that Murray won. But it's still lacking little bit sharpness.

I will create my own hype.

I think Murray is the favourite for the Australian Open now, but only if there is the same pressure on him to win. Playing with freedom will generally not work to Muzza's favour however because he is a talentless ghel who needs instructions.

Lets be honest, if there was no wind about yesterday for the first two sets, the Muzzatron would've lost in straight sets. The conditions were a nice equaliser; much like Barcelona playing Chelsea on a waterlogged wreck. But like most Brits, I do rate resilience and Murray is the most resilient player around. He could hack it on a windy night in New York.

Murray had to win a rain-delayed semi against Nadal in 2008 and Federer had a day extra to prepare for the final. Federer got lucky.

The roof was closed in the Wimbledon final. Federer got lucky.

Everyone gets lucky.

If you win a Slam, you deserve it.

Players have to handle all conditions and situations at all tournaments. Luck doesn't exist. Just a series of events you master or you don't. Whoever wins is a worthy champion.

Master Splinter
11-09-2012, 04:04 PM
I guess his future chances also depend on whether Nadal comes back as the freak he used to be.

He'll probably win a few more French Opens on one leg.

On hardcourts though, you'd favour Djokovic over Nadal in any condition. On the faster stuff, Federer is also better than Nadal. With Murray's newly-discovered Belief, Spirit and Grit, he has the potential to get one over Nadal too on hardcourts.

The main point being, men's tennis is awlsome and the next few years should continue to be deserving of the hyberbole.

I'm not saying Murray was lucky but more than the conditions suited him. When the roof is closed and there are not many external factors, usually - the more aggressive player that goes for his shots wins. But Murray with his slightly more defensive game gets an advantage because he deals with the weather better. Personally I think it's a good trait. At least in cricket, a batsman being able to handle different pitch conditions is seen as a indicator of quality.

It was more directed at Charlie seemingly downplaying the achievement.

If you went through every tournament in the Open Era, there would be something you could use to say this or that could have caused this or that to happen. Djokovic came back at him when the wind subsided. But Murray nullified him even then.

Was not downplaying anything. Just said he was a bit lucky thats all. but i also said sometimes you need that luck.

Never said he did not deserve it.

The other players should ask for the Madrid clay to be used at Roland Garros.

It's not their fault Nadal is dead. Although Djokovic wouldn't be happy with blue clay.

Could say the same about Muzza yesterday tbf.

I don't agree.....I remember the 2009 final vividly and Federer was by far the better player in four of the five sets but mentally was all over the shop....Djokovic didn't play badly at all.....but Murray I don't think ever let himself down not even in the third and fourth set he wasn't berating himself as he usually does.

Those four sets in 2009 were the best sets I've seen. I rate the 2008 Wimbledon final higher overall because of the fifth (AO was a bust in the fifth).

I think only Federer would want the blue clay.

It would be a laugh to see Djokovic and Nadal go apeshit though.

Apart from "hit it you dick!" and "JELLY!"

I think there was a "for fuck's sake" as well.

There's nothing wrong with losing it for a few points. With Murray it actually seems to re-focus him now. When he used to whinge and shout towards his box for games on end, it didn't really help.

I want the blue clay. I think the Parisians would go a bit mental too though.

he had his little spurts here and there but crucially he got it out his system and didn't let it fester as he has in the past. then you see his body language change as his shot choice gets worse. there are no more questions to be asked about whether or not he can cut it with what will be legends of the game - it is now all there for him to become one himself.

I don't see why it has to be the end, i think the flood gates will open.....If Murray can best Nole on Hard Court in New York, he can do it in Melbourne as well.....i think Wimbledon might be a bit too much to ask....but you never know.

French Open?....will never happen.Maybe getting to Number 1 in the World Rankings......deserves to be higher than fourth in my opinion.

Why ?

He'll win 2 more slams at least next year with Wimbledon being one of them.
