Bloody hell didn't realise Mansfield were dominate and it took a handball goal to win it. Rodgers :haha:

I'd say it was instinct rather than deliberate, given it was a yard and a millisecond away.

But either way; play to the whistle, if it doesn't come then it's the ref's problem. And even if it was deliberate, then he did what every footballer would do. And if they say they wouldn't, then they're liars as well.

Mansfield couldn't sell out a home game v Liverpool or has watching Liverpool just not that attractive anymore?

Segregation between the home and away fans.

Like at every game.

Actually I think I read they increased their usable capacity specifically for the game.

And Carragher said it was boss.

Apparently Mansfield left 96 seats empty as a mark of respect.

Yeah, they put the names on 96 of the segregated seats, nice touch.

Also, what's the source for saying it was Liverpool fans singing it? Apart from twitter. It's quite common for lower league clubs, primarily in the FA Cup, to sing it toward bigger clubs

I think Suarez was expecting the goal to be ruled out after the rather lethargic boot into the net. No way the goal should have been allowed to stand but that's the officials problem.

Suarez.

i see espn have released a statement about john champion's line "its the work of a cheat" about suarez goal.

“We take our responsibility to deliver the highest standards of coverage to our viewers. ESPN’s editorial policy is for commentators to be unbiased and honest, to call things as they see them. Inevitably this can involve treading a fine line on occasion, especially in the heat of the moment. Comments during the Mansfield v Liverpool match caused offence where none was intended and we have spoken to our commentator about this incident.”

why was there any need for this?

also suarez doesnt help himself, it might be the referees job to spot the handball, but he knew he handled it and so did the thousand fans behind hte goal, so kissing his hand isnt hte most sensible thing to do. (i know he does it for his wife and child) but surely he has to think?

Cripps_orig

Nothing wrong with what Suarez did. He thought it would be ruled out and wouldn't have complained hence the lack of celebration. The commentator was a dick for saying what he did

do it once, and then its fair to say the commentator was out of order. however its not suarez's first offence is it? the handball and celebration against ghana, the countless dives etc. he has earnt a reputation for being a cheat and its no ones fault but his. so if he then scores a handball goal, given his other offences, its not that unreasonable to suggest he is a cheat.

The attitude that there's nothing wrong with players cheating is one of the things wrong with football these days. The Olympics were so uplifting and inspiring because of the sportsmanship shown by the vast majority of athletes. They were all trying to be the best but mostly in a fair way. That's what sport should be about, not who can cheat best and get away with it, not who has the most money to throw around.

Cripps_orig
07-01-2013, 03:07 PM
He got punished for what he did against Ghana and the celebration was for his country winning. All of us would have done that. He's been widely criticised for his diving, more so than other players who do it much more often.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt for the handball yesterday. Yes it was handball and I doubt he would've complained had the free kick been given. He clearly expected it to be given judging from his reaction. Not his fault it wasn't.

To be fair I don't defend Liverpool players nearly as much as I could... I usually just roll over and agree.

To be honest I think it was more instinct than a conscious, deliberate attempt to control it; given the fact he was a yard away and it happened in a split second. It shouldn't have been given, but you play to the whistle. If that whistle doesn't come then it's the ref's problem, the players are there to play not enforce the rules. Mansfield players and manager have said as much, were the shoe on the other foot they'd probably have done the same.

A defender wouldn't own up should they handle it on the line, it's no different for a striker. And there was no moral outrage when Crouch and Ba did it, not to mention the times and English player dives or cheats, then it's fair game. I'd have preferred him not to do it, or for it to have been disallowed, but some people paint him out to be between Hitler and Pol Pot. There are far worse things you can do on a football pitch than a handball... give it a few weeks and we'll probably see him prove it. It'll be Evra v Suarez III on Sunday....

And of course they're all cheating, slimy, conniving little shits. But they always were. I don't enjoy football as much as I used to.... but that's probably down to us being shit for the last 3 years... and as I say, the second he leaves us I'll no doubt hate him more than anyone else.

The outrage is a bit silly, we see far worse every week (by Gerrard lolz)

FA Cup to win back its magic
End-of-term final returns

Latest odds from Coral's Tim Reynolds

NOT surprisingly the top three in the Premier League dominate this season’s FA Cup betting.
We make Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea the 5-1 co-favourites to lift the trophy.
Tottenham are 8-1 to lift the FA Cup with Arsenal and Tottenham both available at 9-1.
Click here for Coral's latest odds
THE FA Cup final is returning to its traditional spot as the season-closing showpiece.
And the climax to the world’s oldest and premier cup competition will also once again have its own weekend.
Cup final day has lost its magic with top-flight games being staged on the same Saturday, as well as the following day.
Last year Arsenal drew 3-3 with Norwich before the Chelsea-Liverpool final, which kicked off at 5.15pm to please ITV.
There were seven more Premier League fixtures the following day and the season finished the Sunday after.
Manchester City’s 2011 FA Cup final win over Stoke was overshadowed by rivals United sealing the Championship hours earlier.
But the Premier League have confirmed in a timetable issued to clubs — and seen by SunSport — that for the next three seasons the regular league season will finish BEFORE the cup final.
The 2013/2014 season will kick off on Saturday, August 17, and finish on Sunday, May 11, with the FA Cup final on Saturday, May 17.
