View Full Version : US Presidential Election: Who do you prefer?

Joker

The Election takes place on Tuesday, with many polls reporting that Obama and Romney are neck and neck, although Obama has the edge in the "swing states".

If you've been following the election, which candidate do you prefer? Personally, I think Obama's far better than Romney although both of them are quite conservative in the sense that they're unwilling to stand up to corporate interests.

As always, where is the option for neither. The conditioning is absolute.

Both are owned by the banks, both are the same, there is no difference between them and neither of them control anything or even have a say in anything. They are puppets. For any who doubt that, George Bush was president.

Been watching Fox News, it's not to be missed. The funniest show on TV by a mile. Their relief when the hurricane did some serious damage was hilarious. And now they somehow have to spin a mindless stiff who can barely walk, let alone talk coherently, as the man who will "fix" the economy. Comedy gold. Apparently some 50 million yanks believe it too. That's where it stops being funny.

Bloody will affect you because the yankee banks will be dumping billions (maybe trillions) they've been hanging onto as soon as the result is in. Which makes me believe Obama has already won (or, more accurately, been reselected because the yanks haven't had a straight election in decades). Going to fuck us all when the next bolt is fired into the corpse to get it to dance one last time.

If you cut taxes to zero that means no more public schools, hospitals, roads/bridges/railways, housing, etc. Now, you could say that with zero taxes the country will become so much richer that everyone can afford to pay for the privatised schools etc, but do we have any evidence from economic history that a totally decentralised, private enterprise economy can create such wonderful conditions?

Proven after the WW2, it help rebuilt US middle class group and small/id size businesses. The thing is Gov still have other source of income but ppl will be the smallest contributor instead of the biggest one.

Not to mention, you can't have military empire and welfare state at the same time.. who is going to pay for it? At this rate US dollar will devalue so fast it will hurt not just the US but the rest of the world.

Which of the hundreds of taxes are you talking about? The income tax? Virtually all of that is used to sustain government debt and the rest is subject to unimaginable waste. Removing control of the money supply from private bankers and placing it back in the hands of the government would immediately eliminate the debt burden. And of course it would stamp on the rampant inflation tax in the process. Therefore, not only could we easily run the economy with a personal income tax at 0% but we'd in fact be a lot better off. The reliance on big government, quite aside from being self evidently absurd, is like welcoming cancer in order to preserve "essential" cancer treatment.

I'm currently watching Channel 4 Dispatches and the question comes to mind which President is more likely to give Israel the green light to go to war with Iran?

IMO Romney seems like he's spoil for a fight, after all he has spoken about war with China and Russia! I think Obama is less likely to want to have another war but I wouldn't put it passed him.

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie

People who are disappointed with Obama's four years in office are crying for the moon.....it's not so much what did you expect in four years, but what did you expect in general. Despite the Conservative talking point that Fidel Castro thinks that Obama should tone down the socialism, this guy was never going to be a radical....there isn't the political willpower in Washington to reign in Wall Street and many of Obama's campaign contributions were from the big banks he'd endorsed the bailout for in 2008.
I think the Stimulus Bill in 2009 arrested the economic slide but didn't do much to turn things around for the better, but for the most part the guy has been at odds with Republicans in congress whose only aim from the outset was to guarantee he'd be a one term president (which by current polling doesn't seem to have succeeded), he's been in a no win situation he's tried to reason with the Republicans but they don't want to see reason and if he calls them out for being a bunch of toss pieces he looks Un presidential.
Romney I think is far more moderate on social issues than he has pretended to be to his base, but he is a fiscal conservative of the Ronald Reagan model and Reagan's root and branch deregulation of the financial industries as well as selling off America's blue collar industries started the ball rolling with this economic mess.
That little trader t.urd who appeared on BBC News and said "Goldman Sachs rules the world!" was probably being more truthful than any of us would like to believe.
Obama isn't perfect, but with family in America I have been desperate for a long time to see a form of Universal Health care (mandated insurance is the nearest thing your likely to get to it) because I know none of them are well enough off to afford treatment if the worst should happen....that's why i supported him in 2008, that's why i support him now.
I think when hopefully Obama is re-elected this policy will be locked in with him and bring about one of the most drastic social changes in American History, he has gambled his presidency on it so win or lose he should be admired for that at least.

Forget the polls, follow the money. Obama is 1.23 on Betfair and Romney is 5.2. That translates to Romney being over 4/1 in a two horse race with no draws.

£25.3m has been placed on the market with only £3.47 of it backing Romney.

Obama has it in the bag.

Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy beat out former wrestling executive Linda McMahon for a U.S. Senate seat from Connecticut in the costliest race in the state's history.

ABC News is projecting Murphy as the winner of the Senate race against McMahon, who outspent the congressman by more than $20 million, sinking some of her own fortune into her $42 million bid. McMahon, who ran World Wrestling Entertainment before throwing her hat into the political ring, previously spent $50 million running for Senate in 2010.

his campaign got dirty alright, maybe not obama himself but some of the adverts put out where pretty bad. romney too, although one of his adverts in Ohio failed and ended up being a reason why he lost that state.

going back to donald trump, he said today something along the lines of, its not romenys fault, hes a very good candidate, he just failed to connect with the people. now correct me if im wrong, but if a candidate fails to connect with the people, hes a pretty shit candidate.

Hours before the polls closed Tuesday, GOP nominee Mitt Romney told reporters on his plane that he's so confident in a win he's only prepared a victory speech.

"I've only written one speech at this point," Romney said, adding the text of that address was 1,118 words long.

Saying "intellectually" he's felt he was going to win the election for a long time, Romney said his final campaign stops in Ohio and Pittsburgh Tuesday gave him an emotional jolt as well that victory is within his grasp.

As for any campaign regrets, Romney said he had few.

"I'm very proud of the campaign we've run," Romney said, adding that "no campaign is perfect."

"I am very pleased. I feel we have put it all on the field. We left nothing in the locker room," the candidate said.

"Other" candidates? Surely not? Who are these "other" candidates and how did they manage to disrupt this one horse race? Nader was followed around by both repug and demon lawyers whose role was to get him kicked off every ballot. Ron Paul had half his delegates robbed at the convention. (Bet you wish you had Ron's votes now - don't you ****s?) Simply ignoring these candidates is very reflective of the American system. One political structure within 2% of the never changing message across the spectrum, split into two theatrical companies and nobody else allowed on the stage. Millions still buy into this and get all fired up about their candidate. It's classic misdirection and it works really well. "Other" candidates could never be permitted as they might say something stupid, like let's not try to get out of debt by increasing the debt.

GOD has ignored the fervent prayers of idiots, allowing Barack Obama to be re-elected as President.

Despite Mormon fasts, the efforts of Billy Graham and countless “pray-ins” urging Him to delivery victory to Mitt Romney, God refused to listen.

Indeed, He went so far as to part the clouds over Texas and bare his backside over the state, a gesture some theologians interpreted as a sure sign of His scorn. There were also reports of heavy monsoons of urine in several ‘red’ states.

God, addressing mortals directly for the first time since the Old Testament via a celestial Tannoy system, said: “You Bible Belt pinheads have got starvation, war and global warming down there and now you want Mitt Romney too?

“I don’t do anything about any of that other stuff so why the hell do you think I’d help you out on this one?

“If it’s not this, it’s the gays. Hey, I created them. I figured, throw in about ten percent of them, break up the sexual monotony.

“Now leave me alone.”

Dallas preacher Joseph Turner said: “As ever, God’s message is ambiguous and full of hidden meaning.

“Especially the words ‘FUCK OFF!’ written in a 400 ft-high fiery letters in the sky. It must be an allegory for something.”
