European football's governing body Uefa is considering ditching the Europa League in favour of extending the Champions League from 32 to 64 teams.
"We're discussing it. We will make a decision in 2014. Nothing is decided yet," Uefa president Michel Platini told French newspaper Ouest-France. (http://www.ouest-france.fr/sport/une_sport_detail_-Entretien-exclusif.-Platini-Je-ne-crois-pas-au-dopage-organise-dans-le-foot-_39382-2137942_actu.Htm)
It means seven English clubs and five Scottish teams could enter at a qualifying round stage.
Uefa are looking at changing the format of European competitions from 2015.

Oh FFS

So the top 7 teams could now potentially get into the CHAMPIONS League? Should be going the other way, champions only.

Horrible

Will make many games shite; will increase the pressure for bloated squads to compete; will make the format pretty much obsolete.

...but is a money spinner so may well happen.

I guess this concept will also be discussed along with the idea of playing the Euros across several countries.

Pathetic.

If this happens then football :rose: Its the worst thing that can happen looking at it from an Arsenal fan point of view. It would just prolong the mediocrity we have had to suffer for years but Wenger and the board will love this idea

It's essentially the infamous super league idea, well the early stages of it anyway.

It would kill domestic competition and eventually there would be a radical new plan to have these top 6 or 7 teams competing in a league together, maybe even have a 2nd tier as well so you could have promotion and relegation.

That Super League idea will be the final nail in the coffin for this once great game. I see nothing good coming out of it.

please fuck no.

this is exactly what the board want. it means they can invest even less than they do now, finish 7th and still make champions league revenue.

we need it going the opposite direction and less teams getting into europe cause it might kick start those fuckers to invest.

if this happened we'd officially turn into a mid-table team. believe that.

You're f*cking kidding me, it's already devalued enough by having teams that come 3rd and 4th in their leagues and now they want to allow teams lower than that in as well?

I think they should go back to allowing 1 or 2 teams from each country not the other way round, this is a total joke....Wenger will end up telling us 7th place is like major trophy!

Yep. The super league that could never happen.

Obviously this is the most fucked up idea imaginable. If you deliberately set out to devise the shittiest most fucked up idea in the history of the world you couldn't get close to and idea as shitty and fucked up as this one. Was always going to happen. Nothing can stand in the way of human greed.

We need to pull this country out of the fucked up EU and pull our clubs out of the fucked up UEFA. The get the army lads together and invade the ****s. The yanks would help us, they don't like them either.

I don't mind 32, it makes sense with the premier international tournament having 32 teams. Just raise the Europa League prize money UEFA you berks and don't have 100 teams involved.
