Here are some quotes attributed to Reading striker Pavel Pogrebnyak ahead of their game at City.

"Maybe I'm influenced by my emotions but we're a bit afraid of travelling to Manchester," the Russian told Sovsport.ru. "At least I'm (afraid).

"I hope we don't concede 10 goals (on Saturday). I hope our manager will find something."

Pavel would settle for a 9-0 defeat then...

BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at Upton Park:
"Novelty pop act 'One Pound Fish Man' is currently being interviewed on the pitch at Upton Park. A famous character these days.

"And 'One Pound Fish Man' will be back at half time to sing apparently. Will need to be some game to overshadow that."

Pulis complaining about not complaining:

STOKE City boss Tony Pulis has rubbished claims he made a complaint to referees’ chief Mike Riley over the leniency of the punishment handed out to Marouane Fellaini.

The Potters boss is furious at the report in a national newspaper which suggested he was upset that the Belgium midfielder was only given a three-match ban following a series of clashes involving his defender Ryan Shawcross during last Saturday's 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium.

Pulis told the ECHO: “It’s complete nonsense and very disappointing. I’ve got no complaints with how it has been handled, so to suggest I’ve gone to Mike Riley about it is totally untrue.

“I’ve spoken to David to tell him that and he just laughed it off, but I want Everton supporters to know it’s rubbish.”

"I want my supporters to know that I hate Errrrrrsnal and Errrrrrrrsene too."

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert believes that midfielder Ashley Westwood's form warrants comparison to Manchester United legend Paul Scholes. "I called him a Mini Scholes. I stand by it. I still believe it because of the way he passes the ball," Lambert said. "Sometimes the five-yard pass is the most difficult because no-one wants to play it."Sell them Arteta

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson: "We absolutely battered them and we are very unlucky. It really should have been a foul for us in the build-up to their goal. It was just one of those games, he is a young referee, but really, what a performance.

"It should have been six point gap today and that is the disappointment. Vidic did not have much to do but what he did do he did well.

"Robin van Persie is lucky to be alive. It was a disgraceful act from their player today and he should be banned by the FA. Robin could have had a broken neck."

He deserved to be at risk of serious injury just for leaving a football club?? I'm not a fan of his but that's a bit OTT. We criticise Shawcross for his act of violence against Ramsey but praising Williams for being a thug? I know we're football fans and we look at things through rose tinted specs but still...

According to a former Premier League physio there could have been serious damage

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2252516/Robin-van-Persie-killed-says-Sir-Alex-Ferguson-Ashley-Williams-kick.html (Unfortunately from the Mail)

MARK LEATHER
Former Premier League physio

It's unlikely that being hit by the ball could have killed Van Persie. But being struck that hard from such a short distance could have knocked him out. I’ve seen players knocked out by free-kicks struck from 10 yards away.

If you are unconscious, there is then a risk of trauma to the brain. A blow that fierce is like being hit in boxing - the damage is unpredictable. It can lead to internal bleeding and permanent damage, or there can be just an aching head.

you can also have a chance of being killed by having some nutter kung fu kick you in the face with football boots on, or kicking a football boot into your face. fergie claims that this could have killed him and was worse thing to happen on a pitch for years and years, yet he happily kicked a boot into one of his players face, which caused more damage, and wasnt far away from blinding beckham then a ball to the head.

if there is a chance a ball to the head could kill, then take heading out of football and introduce a rule saying the ball isnt allowed above shoulder height.

Of course it's an overreaction from ORN, but it's all part of his attempt to distract from his team's poor performance, not least Rooney who by all accounts had a shocker. And by the look of things it's working as well. He believes it no more than anyone else. He's right to be angry, but "he could have been killed, won't someone please think of the children" routine is a bit far. Just as it's a bit of a stretch to sarcastically suggesting banning headers.

That's not to say I don't think it wasn't deliberate though, because it probably was. At the very least if I'd accidentally smashed someone in the head from a yard I'd be immediately apologetic, not confrontational. And it's not exactly good timing what with his quotes about Suarez; it doesn't exactly cast him as a "he's not like that" kind of guy, in fact he seems like a complete dick.

But as he picked his target well, I say congratulations. You're the envy of many millions.
