Yes pace.
For his first he broke away from his marker and sprinted onto the end of the cross and for his second he outran the defender to get in the box for poldi's cross.
If that's not pace I don't know what is.

You have to understand that for some people it's impossible to admit when they're wrong.
It would seem so.

Running at full speed without the ball isn't what id call pace tbh. Amount of times he's been put through with the ball and been caught, he has no pace.
He showed some improvement last night for sure though. More of the same

Well if you are always caught when you do have the ball at your feet as he always is, he has to take what he can get. He does have his strengths, pace isn't one of them

 @ Giroud having pace.... Not sure I'd state that as high on his list of attributes, even taking into account last night's game. A decent enough striker though. Would make an excellent sub for Villa.

Bit harsh to be honest, Giroud is like Arsenal not scoring on a consistent basis.....he has scored 11 goals so far this season which isn't terrible for a foreign striker in their first season but he is scoring braces in one off games and then not scoring again for four or five games. Much like Arsenal we scored seven against Newcastle, then we managed only five in the next five....before last night.

But isn't that the expected script, our goalscoring pattern mirroring that of our supposed main striker ie?

That's the thing though, his stats don't look bad but if you're scoring goals in small burst it distorts the stats somewhat.
A player who can score regularly is much more valuable than a player who scores 4-5 in one game and then none for the next 10 games.
He's not a bad player and a good sub for sure, but we need better to be successful as he'll never be top notch.

He was great last night, he had everything - pace, power, composure, desire.
He's only gonna get better.
Dont know whats with the hate against Giroud tbh.. He is not RVP! He has his strengths and if he had the likes of Flamini, Hleb, Nasri, Cesc around, he'd be closer to 20 goals by now. Its not his fault he has players who decide to show up every couple of weeks!

He has missed sitters that has f all to do with players around him. Likewise his lack of movement is down to him and not his team mates.

Not really no, that's the number of games he's scored in not the amount of goals he has.
He's not really scored in enough games.

I despair at times, I really do. sigh. you pointed out his figures were distorted because they were scored in bursts, rather than being more valuable and spread over games. 11 goals in 9 games - instead of 11 in 4 for example. it's actually better ratio than theo. but then again, you hate him too, so what am i even doing this for.

Let me put it another way.
He hasn't scored in 24 games he's played and 5 of his goals came in a spell of 5 games at one stage of the season, that's not a good spread.
My point of scoring 4-5 goals in one match was a purposeful exageration.
One goal was for France btw. So he's scored in 8 in 32 for us.
see, i just helped you find your angle.
You've made me realise he's worse than I thought he was

The thing about the stats is they don't tell you where the chances were, how far from goal etc there's no context so they don't really give you a perfectly accurate picture of one players performance vs another.
and you talk about consistency?
He's no Jérémie Aliadičre, thats for sure.
True he doesn't spend most of his time on the treatment table.
and you talk about consistency?
That point stands, none of this points to inconsistency.
The bit you picked up from a totally unrelated conversation was when comparing two players and in that scenario stats tell you f*ck all because it was about conversion rates and the stats never told you how far away from goal your effort's were etc or give you any context for the chances.
In the conversation we've been having where goals vs number of games the stats are basically the whole argument.
You go out of your way to make it hard don't you? Shall I pick up some totally irrelevant unrelated post and use it in a random discussion as well?

Giroud has been here what, 8 months? He has scored more than Chamakh in his whole career for us.
I will agree he has missed some sitters but if there are complains that he does not make good runs, I am sorry but thats a whole load of bull! One thing he is very good at is making runs. If he had a Song or a Cesc around, he'd have scored more. Oh and not to forget, we have terrible crossers over the ball in our wings. Jenkinson is good but he is not half as good a defender as Sagna is.. so really, we are complaining that Giroud is not a Van Persie.. shocker! There is still time in the season and I wouldnt be surprised if he scored 20 goals. That many goals in the first season would put a lot of our other 'past great' strikers to shame.

Chamakh has scored 14 his entire career for Arsenal and made 10 assists. Giroud has scored 11 already and made 9 assists in half a season.
Not that comparing him to Chamakh will make him a better player... he is just a better player with his runs and looks so much more positive than Chakma did. I have no doubt Chakma woudve turned out better had he a decent striker alongside him in a different formation but Giroud is miles above Chakma IMO.

I can't believe anyone - even on a wumming mission would bother comparing Chamakh with any recent striker at this Club. Giroud has created much more in his spell here with a less talented team than Chamakh has in his entire career.
When Giroud misses chances, they are more notable, but only because of the relative scarcity of chances these days. I still remember Chamakh blowing stuff like running clear through on goal, stopping and trying (and failing) to pass it back.

Biggest pussy on the field I've ever seen. The guy was a coward in front of goal. But...he only had half a season with us really and then was forced out by RVP. His last outing for us, he looked decent and actually managed to score from outside of the box.

They're more notable because he has no composure, give him time to pick his spot he's likely to fluff it. His strength is making runs inside the box, most of his goals are very similar, with the chip against Coventry and the pot shot against Newcastle the exceptions. The rest are all headers and instinctive shots from successfully latching onto dangerous balls near the 6 yard box.

Tbf to Chamakh, he was decent the first half of his first season the. RVC got fit and stayed fit for the first time ever and he's hardly had a run of games since. Plus he showed good movement, much better than what Giroud has shown so far but think the Frenchman will be a better player

Yeah I agree. What I didn't like about him though was he was an absolute pussy on the pitch. Someone said in an earlier post that he was a coward and I have to agree. He was supposedly great in the air but never put his head in where it might get hurt. After he lost his form he just turned into a static blob who was pointless to bring on in games.
A real disappointment as, like you say, he started off well enough.
Chamakh had a decent first half a season, but has barely kicked a ball since.
That in itself is the most damning thing because he played a shit load of games.
Waste of skin and bones.

One of those players who needs a run of games to be at his best but in this day and age, unless you're a little bit awesome which he isn't, you are not afforded with that luxury. He should have done better in his cameos but he didn't. He ain't a bad player though. Good luck to him at West Ham

Laughable is very harsh IMO. In summer, was he a better option than Giroud on paper? May be slightly but I have not seen anything this season which would say Ba is 'laughable miles' ahead of Giroud. Giroud has scored 14 goals and 11 assists in 34 appearances this season while Ba has scored 14 in 25 with 0 assists. And this is Giroud's first season in the PL... to me, he is better than Ba. And I agree that Ba has more pace.. about the rest, thats your personal opinion. Tbf, I honestly think its stupid when a player goes 'religious' in their goal celebration.. do your prayers at home. You dont need to win the Muslim/Christian/Buddhist/Hindu vote by doing that farce!

So Ba has as many goals but in lesser games and playing for a shite ass Newcastle and a shite ass manager in Rafa in doing so? Thanks for proving my point
fakeyank
09-02-2013, 07:07 AM
We are not really better than Newcastle. We are may be a level or two above them tbh. And our manager isnt the greatest either. He has more goals but Giroud has assists too which Ba has none of! So Giroud was responsible for 25 goals in 34 goals (~3 in 4 games) and Ba was for 14 in 25 (~1 in 2 games) and this is Girouds first season coming from France while this is Ba's 3rd season in England.
Ba's highest contribution in terms of goals in a season? 16. Giroud has 14 so far... still not going to say Giroud is miles better than him. Their stats are very similar but you can interpret stats in any way and say he has scored more goals while I will say Giroud helps the team by being a better all round player. Pretty much a tie but Giroud is 100 times better looking than Ba, so clearly Giroud > Ba.
