I do love when we go mental in little bursts.

Much needed 3 points and performance.

I think it's far to say we'll play like that in every game now.

Clearly no signings are needed and everything is right at Arsenal once more.

Good performance. Wilshere, Podolski, Giroud were sublime, Cazorla to a little lesser extent. Rest of our attacking players were decent.

Need to be able to step it up like that whenever needed, West Ham couldn't deal with us. Defense was surprisingly solid apart from their goal.

I hope this result doesn't see us back off in the transfer market because we still need one or two but everyone can be quite happy about today.

Good performance in the 2nd half, everything clicked for once.

Still, I think we need at least 2 signings this transfer window. Against the likes of Everton, Liverpool, Stoke etc we won't be able to walk through their defences with the ease we did tonight, and we'll need some extra quality in our ranks to cope with all the fixtures coming in the UCL, FA Cup and the League.

Just score the 0-1 scoreline and then the 5-1 scoreline....seems like a pretty good win on the face of it.

We're all ecstatic.

I'm obviously very happy with the win, but nothing wrong in pointing out that we've got a lot of tough fixtures coming up and this XI can't play every game, which is why we need good quality players who can come in and do a job for us. We've had other thumping wins this season against Southampton, Newcastle, Reading, and they were followed up by unconvincing performances against harder to break down teams. So we still need to find consistency and the ability to get results when the opposition is making it hard for us.

The key to us winning like that is the effort levels. SIMPLE. How they are allowed to drop is down to Wenger...yet again a slow start and a brilliant 2nd half.
Let's hope we play for 90mins against liverpool.
Great attacking play 2nd half. Podolski outstanding.... along with Wilshere again.

Podolski .

Giroud . Those flicked balls over the top are officially better than Song's chips.

Wraithfear . Spanish legend in the making.

Gibbs . Our best player since his return from injury.

Ramsey . Was really good all game. Kept it simple, kept it moving, worked hard, defended well and impressed in an unusual role.

Even Sagan had a decent game today.

Walcott, Podolski, Crepezola were all guilty of missing good chances though. This was a perfect opportunity to bolster the goal difference.

Anyway, Arsenal .

Unusual position lol. Thats his position. For some reason wenger has always played him further upfield or out wide. In this deeper position he keeps this ticking over and unlike Arteta injects energy as well. But wenger keeps putting in wrong positions. Wilshere should be no.10 role like vs swansea, theo should b in strikers role and ramsey at cm/dm!

I don't think it is his position at all. He played well today but the common criticism is the time he takes on the ball which is magnified the closer he is to his own goal. Today he was efficient which was good, but he's an attacking midfielder. Today's domination was mostly because Wilshere and Cazorla had really good games ahead of him.

Ye that's the point!! He can move into free positions and play an easy pass to wilshire and Santi. He takes too long when there is no simple ball on and thats when all those flicks come out. He moved quicker than Arteta,

I don't really agree but am glad it worked out tonight. I think his strengths are direct running and playing through-balls more than anything else. When playing deep, he'll find himself in pressure positions against better teams where there isn't an out-ball and it's not his game to deal with that.

Thousands of empty seats apparently.

A few minutes before kick off it was half empty (or half full...).
By a few minutes in it was pretty much full. There were plenty of empty seats but there were still about 55,000 in there I reckon.

If I have one minor grumble (and I do) it's we do lack a bit of ruthlessness sometimes, we could have made it a real humiliation but we took our foot off the gas a bit and let them off the hook.

Overall though, very pleasing tonight. Felt hard done by to be 1-0 down with what was West Ham's first serious attempt. Had it stayed 1-0 for long we might have struggled but cracking goal from Podolski and we came out with real intent in the 2nd half. Great performance, much needed win. If we could just get some consistency we'd be a really good team. We can do it, we just don't. Not often enough anyway. Sagna was loads better tonight and just generally the effort and desire in the 2nd half is what we should be expecting every game.

It*'s on

The number of empty seats is certainly creeping up but it wasn't an embarrassingly low attendance as it looked to be around kick off. It was a thrashing and at times we played some great football. Frustrating we can't do it more often.

I have to the game to watch tonight and am looking forward to it after the last couple of razor jobs. . .
I agree, I hope we dont take this win as a sign all things are rosy with the state of the squad. . .:gp: I also get your argument yesterday about the need for a true talent rather than mere squad players but I sometimes worry about the appeal of the place.

Also I have been thinking, correct me if I am wrong that it is not necessarily RvPs goals we are missing (well at least not the quantity of them.......) we seem to be sharing the goals across the team more than in the past (Feo 15, Pods 10, Giroud 9, Santi 7 all comps)- I know we are a massive amount of points adrift, and worse of in terms of points than at any time during Wengers era but the amount of goals we have scored compares favourably to those teams above us.....more than Everton and Spuds, one less than Chelsea and more than Citeh, what we miss is the match winner, someone to score a goal out of no-where a la RvP - I think this adds a little weight to the argument of bringing in Villa - if we can swallow his wages.

I know that the counter to this argument is that we need to stop letting in......but before you shoot me down, I am not saying that we don't need to help with the defence - but our goal difference is better than those apart from the top three! as Boss was saying yesterday we need class and a player that can win us games with a flash of brilliance is definitely order of the day -

Just caught the highlights from which it was impossible to get an idea of the overall game as most of the show was then ten minutes of old style football followed by the injury. The first half seemed unremarkable apart from the fact that bloke Collison should have been red carded for deliberately trying to break Jack's ankle - and then went on to score of course. Plus a cracker from Podolski who was in most of the highlights until he was subbed. Great power, pace and precision from him in the bits I saw.

Nice to see some counterattacking football again. And some energy. Can't pick out a poor performance from the highlights, everyone seemed to chip in. Nice to see Giroud finally net. Strange game that was brilliant one minute and then just faded out. 37 points from 23 games though. Dire. 6 more needed from the next two home games. Not getting excited about one performance. It was fun to watch in parts but they've caught me with the sucker punch of a terrible follow-on performance too many times.

Ramsey looked good from what I saw. But it looked like the whole team was pumped up. But would like to see him play in that role again. He might be more cut out for seeing things from further back and trying to keep it simple. He's no good playing in the final third or further up field.

We weren't messing around pretending to play like Barca for a change, it was instinctive and quick and I think the most important thing was that we made use of the wide areas. The lack of width at times is horrible in this team but Gibbs and Podolski in particular really managed to nail down the left side.

Just got back from the game.

First 15 minutes of the 2nd half was a little bit awesome. The rest not so much. Shame their pub teamer got an injury cos it killed the game as we probably would have gone on to score more.

Everyone was decent to very good. Sir Ches had f all to do and even started the counter for one of the goals. Sagna showed a much better performance than he has recently. Mert and Verm are awesome. Hope Verm is ok. Was kind of Wengernto bring on Kos for West Ham after we went 5-1 up. Gibbs is brilliant.

Ramsey had one of his better days. Hopefully the end for Arteta if Ramsey continues this form. Sir Jack and Santi kept things ticking along and the latters goal was sublime.

The stand out players were upfront though. Giroud who has been shocking recently scored 2 poachers goals and finally showed some movement. More of the same pls ffs. Theo was brilliant once again. Goal and an assist.

But the best player on the pitch was Podolski. Goals, assists, is there anything he can't do? Always been a big fan of his and he's producing the goods. We were right behind him when he took the shot for his goal and we knew it was in as soon as he hit it. Best left footed striker we have had for some time. RVC :haha:

Hope Potts is ok. Didn't see what happened.

No real complaints about the game. It was a little bit cold though. Fucking Wenger. He has to go

Only thing even in the 1st half was the score, imo. We dominated midfield and general play from the get go, but just couldn't find that fluidity in the final 3rd (I said as much during the 1st half of actual game and forecasted a comfortable win should we be able to address our lack of sharpness upfront).
