You have to wait for him to make a mistake in a pre-season game and then use that as your infinite proof of his shitness.

Or alternatively, see him put in some great performances and then cleverly say these performances are in fact terrible and x player is much better for maximum small-time WUM effect.

The bottom line is he's not exactly young and if he was any good he wouldn't be playing for a shit team like Malaga. Or Arsenal, for that matter. If we wanted a LB, we should've bought Ashley Cole back but we decided to go for the bargain bin again. Typical Wenger.

The guy on SSN last night said that we were supposed to buy this guy in the summer. We had the agreement in place with Malaga for the fee, and that was to give time for nacho to learn English, but the injury to Gibbs and santos being dogshite forced us to move his transfer forward.

So if it weren't for Gibbs we wouldn't have bought anyone.

Gibbs being out for 2-3 weeks, then 4-6 weeks and possibly 8, but more realistically until Christmas means this was beyond essential.

Tbh , Santos is not a bad player as people make it look like . He is not a good LB but as a LW he can be a good asset for Arsenal . He is not an automatic starter but for a thin squad like ours he can be valuable asset when we have an injury . I assume you will not use your emotions like many to assess the situation . I know many fans hate Santos because of the Van Persie situation and his current loss of form . But when he scored the equalizer against Chelsea I didn't see people coming up with comment such as " Santos out " . He made a mistake and the fans showed they were not happy .Now he deserves a second chance at least till the end of the season .

I'm happy you are a very raisonable person . But try to be in Santos shoes . You make a mistake and 60 , 000 people are on your back to boo you and around the world millions of fans show how unhappy they are with you . Wouldn't you be uncomfortable when you are playing ? Wouldn't it affect your performance ? We saw it with Eboue , Nasri whom I believe is a top player , never perform well against Arsenal since he joined City . And I'm 100 % sure Van Persie will not be at his best when he will come to the Emirates . I can give you even more examples . When Vierra came with Juventus he was easily outplayed by the small Fabregas . Thierry couldn't find his boot when Arsenal played Barca at the Emirates .

Kano
01-02-2013, 12:02 PM
no because it's part of the job. it's the 'downside' to earning millions of pounds every year for kicking a piece of leather around. so no sympathy, just get on with it or get out. there are far more 'pluses' to being a footballer than having to deal with some mumbling and a few boo's for about 10 minutes every week. if you can't handle that when you can't be bothered to even get fit to run around, then expect people who pay their hard earned money to stick the boot in.

Don't want him anywhere near the team, at LB or further up the pitch. He has a disgusting attitude and is a scum of a person for being so irresponsible. He is actually fat. Right up there with Arshavin as the two most damaging players at the club. Wouldn't want Gibbs, Wilshere, Walcott etc. talking to this disease.

So he'll get games straight away

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that left-back Kieran Gibbs will miss both legs of the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich.

Gibbs was injured in midweek against Liverpool and had initially been ruled out for two to three weeks.

But Wenger says it could now be up to two months, leaving him a selection dilemma at left-back with new signing Nacho Monreal cup-tied for the games.

"I will not tell you who will play there," said Wenger.

With his options limited, Wenger could be forced to play the much-maligned Andre Santos in that position.

how much of that can he honestly, hand on heart say he does every single week? apart from collecting his wages that is.

Well, I suppose we are discussing his loss of form . That can happen to any player including Messi or Ronaldo . When our " English Messi " Rooney ( LOL) had his loss of form , we heard people saying things like " form is temporary but class is permanent " , just to defend him .
That is just to show it can happen to anyone . The time to recover depend on each player : the age ,the environment , the time spent to the current league , the support from the board , from the players and most importantly from the fans ,count . we don't have any evidence that he is not making any effort to improve . If that is the case whose's fault if not the club for keeping him ? I strongly believe Santos is victim of the team current situation . Because the team is not performing at the expected level and the fans are angry , they try to use anyone as a scapegoat . I was expecting Arsenal would improve when the likes of Cygan , Eboue , Senderos..etc left the team but it has never been the case .

That's because Wazza has shown for a number of years he's capable of playing at a high level.

His lack of fitness can be down to lack of games . He is just a squad who plays only when there is a need . He can't be as sharp as a player playing week in week out . Maybe if he was given some of games he could be a different player .

I don't think Santos has ever claimed to be at Rooney's level . Sadly we got him at the end of his career . Had we got him at 21 or 22 , he could have proved us all wrong . It is not easy to join the fastest and most physical league in the world at 29 and convince people .

Monreal is a very good player and will most likely relegate Gibbs to 2nd choice. He's sound defensively, very mobile, technically very good and pretty much reaching the peak of his career.

He's like the Spanish version of Leighton Barnes, minus the free kicks. I like him.

Despite signing him, this window has still been a disaster IMHO, we needed to strengthen the squad all over.

Moreover Arsene had his hand forced with this move given the injury to Gibbs, still a good signing though.

Arsenal’s Monreal: Adapting to the Premier League has been tough
Nacho Monreal admits that he has found it difficult to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League since joining Arsenal in January

Nacho Monreal admits that he has found it difficult to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League but insists he is happy with his start to life at Arsenal.

The 27-year-old left-back, who was signed by Arsčne Wenger from Malaga on transfer deadline day back in January, has already notched up six appearances for the north Londoners.
The Spaniard bagged his first goal for the Gunners when he netted the opener in the 2-0 win at Swansea City last month.
But Monreal says that it has not been easy to adapt to the style of football played in the English top flight.
“It has been tough adapting to the type of football played here in England as the players are a lot more physical,” Monreal told Arsenal Player.
“There’s also a different style of play, as I’ve said before there’s an emphasis on reaching your opponent’s goal as quickly as possible.
“I’ve been here two months now and little by little I am adapting to this style of play. I am happy to be here.”
He added: “Since I’ve been here the manager has given me a lot of confidence and he’s been starting me.
“This has been very important for me because it helps a lot to feel that the manager has faith in me, especially as I’ve just arrived. This in turn this leads to good performances.”

Syn

I think/hope he is a solid player. But he hasn't really shown that so far. He keeps getting bum-raped by shit like Robson-Kanu. But he puts himself about a bit, surprisingly good in the air. And he plays for Spain. I know we used the Brazil argument for Santos, but, Spain are on another level.

I would suggest playing Gibbs at LW and Monreal at LB. It could work similar to Eboue-Sagna partnership in 07/08. Between them they could have the left side covered but both are also naturally better going forward.

Agree Baines would be an improvement, but everyone will have their off games and tbf, Weimann can be a handful on his day.

As for Townsend, he is a pub teamer whom Nacho probably should have handled better.

Arsenal hit by Monreal injury blow

The left-back has injured his back while on holiday and Arsene Wenger now expects him to miss the start of the new Premier League season, along with Thomas Vermaelen.

Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal has been added to the club's lengthy injury list after hurting his back while on holiday. The 27-year-old was given an extended break after playing a part in Spain's Confederations Cup campaign, which has seen the defender miss the Gunners' pre-season tour of Japan. But during that time off, Monreal has damaged his back and, although Arsene Wenger does not know what caused the injury, he now expects the former Malaga man to miss the start of the Premier League season. "Honestly I don't really know," Wenger said of Monreal's injury. "[Laurent Koscielny] got an injection and it looks like he won't be able to start the season. "That is why, of course, we lost one left-back and that is the position where we are a bit exposed at the moment. [Thomas] Vermaelen can play there but he is injured, Monreal can play there, but he is injured, so we only have Kieran, at the moment, who can play there." Arsenal's defence could be very undermanned for the start of the 2013-14 Premier League season, with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny also struggling with a lower back problem. Vermaelen is expected to miss the next three months with his own back troubles, while Koscielny has injured his ankle.

It's a joke. Get Baines in ASAP and put Monreal on the scrap heap.
