Stuart Pearce says England do not give themselves a chance of winning tournaments when key players cannot be selected. The England Under-21 coach is without a string of players - including Jack Wilshere, Phil Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - for the European Under-21 Championship in Israel. England lost their opening match of the tournament 1-0 against Italy on Wednesday.

"If you bring your best players you stand a chance of winning a tournament. If you don't bring your best players then you have to take your chance when you get there," Pearce said.

"I'll tell you now what you have to do to be successful at senior level. You have to qualify with the best team, you have to take your best team to the tournament and you have to give young players as much tournament experience as possible."

pearce took previous teams to the semi's and the final, which is better than anyone for quite a while but unfortunately a group knock out will be the stick which everyone beats his ass with.
