Sorry. Just don't 'get' cricket. I can appreciate the end was exciting today but it took 5 days to get there and that's about as good as Test cricket gets. Meh. Each to their own.

Obviously pleased England won on principle

McNamara That Ghost...
14-07-2013, 01:44 PM
Well I guess it depends on whether you only associate 'exciting' with 'good'. I wouldn't say it only became exciting on the fifth day though but then like you say, cricket isn't really your thing.

It's been a Test match devoid of quality and excitement bar Anderson (quality) and Agar (excitement)

2 players out of 22 coming up with the goods is not good.

Also, slightly worrying England were unable to hit the stumps at all in the 2nd innings. Shows they wait for a batsman mistake rather than get them out through their own talent.

Aussies need to cut the mistakes and they'd have won this

Cripps_orig

Great match. Don't understand how it remained so close given the gulf in quality between in the teams but it made for an exciting match. Superb knock from Bell and great bowling from Anderson. Rest of the side will need to pick up their performances. If some of them do, they'll blow the Aussies away. As much as people are trying to hype it up as a big sporting success, Australia are utter garbage and will roll over if facing serious quality.

Bresnan in for Finn sounds like a good idea too. 2 wickets and 40 runs an innings versus outside chance of 5 wickets.

Never been a Bresnan fan, but Finn hasn't been in good form. Maybe send him away for some County cricket and let him play himself into form. Would rather a proper bowler than another bowling all-rounder like Bresnan. Not sure what names are out there these days other than Onions and Tremlett as alternatives.

Also, batting wasn't too assured, but doubt they'll look to make any changes just yet given we did win in the end.

Always thought the ashes would be a lot closer then everyone was predicting. What a test match. Every session was compelling amd edge of the seat stuff. Well played Australia but they caused their own downfall with stupid reviews that had no chance so couldn't appeal broad and those extra runs broad got won the match. Jimmy Anderson is a special bowler, he's performed everywhere too. Brilliant test match, another 9 to come. It's going to be epic

Finn surely can't play. He was woeful. He might get wickets but he is expensive. I'd play bresnan, plus he can bat. The Aussies hav shown importance of tail end runs, so that's one reason to play him, and I don't think Finn is that effective with an old ball, broad amd Anderson get the new ball while bresnan is good with either.

Tbf India v Pakistan doesn't have 5 match status cos there'd probably be an all out we by the end of it. Matches are rare between the 2 cos of the shit going on between them. I can't remember any major incident during a game thankfully but between fans, dear god there's murder in the air.

If a Pakistani and an Indian went out drinking together as Aussies and the English do, we'll that's the same as doping in athletics in my book

I think Bresnan will probably play. Finn is perhaps in a bit of a rut where he doesn't know what length to bowl and isn't running in with much conviction. He did bowl one good spell at a fuller length but then got taken apart on Sunday. He's a very capable wicket-taker and will eventually be very good but England are big on this drying up runs thing and probably won't go with him for now. More important part is whether Bresnan is bowling better now, doubtful that Onions would play.

He's WUMming.

It's not even the biggest series or rivalry in cricket.

Well, whether you like it or not, most cricket observers would argue it is.

India are big news because of sheer volume of number of Indians and their spread around the globe and lack of alternative sporting interests, but you wouldn't argue a Chinese sporting star is the premier draw in a random competition even though they might have the greatest number of fans backing them. Cricket involving Pakistan nowadays is so frequently tainted by match fixing and off field issues they can't lay much claim to being anywhere near at the top of cricketing interest.

The most ridiculous thing about reviews in cricket and challenges in tennis is that only 3 are allowed.

Why?

Make them unlimited

McNamara That Ghost...

Cripps_orig

It's harsh t lose a review though when its a close decision.

For example I've seen a batsmen been given not out lbw by an on field umpire, been reviewed and it shows ball just hitting leg stump but the on field umpire decision stands thus a review is lost when technically the ball was going to hit the stumps so should be out

For a man who complains tests are too slow, you are arguing to slow them down even further with unlimited reviews

Review takes a matter of seconds and if it eradicates wrong decisions then what's the problem?

The reason they do is because HawkEye is not 100% accurate, so if it does clip the stumps when it was originally given out then actually it might have fallen in to the margin of error where HawkEye is actually incorrect but cannot be proven otherwise.

McGrath's idea of if more than half of it clips it, you shouldn't lose you review makes sense.

Watson got this completely wrong though, it was missing by a fair away.
