Aussies bowled out for 129!

Enforce the follow on you negative gits, though I imagine they won't.

i wouldnt enforce it myself. bat tomorrow, get another 250/300 runs, two days to bowl them out. this has nothing to do with me being worried about bowling them out again tomorrow and me not being able to see cricket on sunday

McNamara That Ghost...
19-07-2013, 03:56 PM
England collapse on the way.

I'd enforce it, grind them in to dirt when you can.

Cripps_orig
19-07-2013, 03:58 PM
England 200+ runs ahead already.

Batting again so quick runs can be scored. Also no pressure so get some batting practise in

LDG
19-07-2013, 04:09 PM
Timid from England.

What would they have done to us 10 years ago.

They're down. Make em bat.

Silly.

LDG
19-07-2013, 04:14 PM
Cook is thinking selfishly here. He wants a bat himself.

We should win it anyway, as they're poor. But wrong decision for me

McNamara That Ghost...

Root edges, how hasn't Haddin gone for that? He's supposed to be the wicketkeeper!

Ollie the Optimist
19-07-2013, 05:33 PM
I disagree. Tea on day 2, 230 odd ahead, I wouldn't go for the follow on. I'd bat them out, get another 350 runs, then they know they have to chase 600 to win and England have 2 days to bowl them out, I think that's more demolising here, however that plan didn't work at the start, but we can still get to a 500 lead.

Also, by not enforcing the follow on, and hopefully batting till end of play tomorrow really makes the Aussies work hard, especially their fast bowlers. In this heat having to run in for best part of 3 days, really tire them out for rest of series. Gives our bowlers a rest too

Cripps_orig
19-07-2013, 05:35 PM
Cook :haha:

LDG

After being stuffed off the park, and having to lick their wounds you stick em straight back where they feel under pressure.

Or.

Given how most on sky, and channel five said bat instead of enforce it, I'll go with that.

LDG
19-07-2013, 06:52 PM
We'll still win this btw. But it certainly won't be through any good captaincy. I tend to side wit Cripps. Very poor so far.

Ollie the Optimist

We'll still win this btw. But it certainly won't be through any good captaincy. I tend to side wit Cripps. Very poor so far.

If you bowl a side out for 120, you can't be that bad a captain in that match. I feel batting on in this instance will do more harm to the Aussies, then following on. If they score 300 amd England chase down the 70 runs and win, I don't think it's as deflating as bowling for three days, and hopefully having to chase over 500 and only getting 250.

Also I think conditions play a part here, it's mean to be like today for next three days, great batting conditions, and most Aussie wickets were stupid shots. If they played sensibly they would have got more. If it was overcast and swinging round corners, I'd enforce follow on, but not today. Think batting is better choice. After watching the highlights again, neither side is making the ball swing round corners etc, most wickets came from stupid shots ams just pressure bowling. With the ball not doing much, bowlers work harder. Rest ours, run Aussies into the ground instead.

Oh I agree, cricket has been poor. Thrilling yes, but quality wise poor. I think we will have to agree to disagree here, I think bat again, you think bowl.

To be honest i was quite surprised the first test was as close as it was, this is about par for what you'd expect given the overall difference in quality between the two sides. Just think how bad it will be for them if Cook and Trott start batting themselves into form.

I know people love to predict the death of test match cricket but i don't see it, 20/20 for me is a gimmick pure and simple and whilst entertaining cannot replace the chess match tension of Test Cricket. Just because we are not seeing it in this particular Ashes series doesn't mean it's not there.

He's been one of their best batsman ;)

Thought he bowled well at Trent bridge myself, but it's bad luck IMO because they really have no one else in reserve. They seem to break all their bowlers. Unless it's a return for Johnson. Which would be funny

To be honest if i was Lehmann i would think there would be nothing to lose by getting Mitchell Johnson on a plane.....despite the fact he's woefully inconsistent.
If they got an on form Mitchell Johnson they would have in their armory the best pace bowler in the world.

Dennis Bendtner

They have a few good bowlers at a similar level, none having much experience. Cummins, Bird, Starc have made promising starts but that's it for now. The other thing is that Sir Ashton for all his batting prowess clearly isn't ready as a bowler. In truth Anderson has shown up most of the bowlers so far.

Starc is inconsistent , cummins seems to be very injury prone, never heard of bird so will reserve judgement. If I was Aussies. I'd forget this series. Risk losing 5-0 but try out players and go all out for home series in November. It's their only chance to get ashes back.

They have to 'give it a go' so to speak and not rip it up mid-series. The problem is that those bowlers mentioned plus Harris and Pattinson (both injury-prone) have only played a handful of Tests between them. I think Bird has played a Test or two, Cummins has died and Starc is fairly new too. Faulkner is the other one I forgot about - another potential debutant. And their batting is a revolving door with mostly average players. Any progress they make in the bowling will be offset by poor batting. You'd think if there were many good batsmen coming through we'd have heard of them.

Oh it's not that as such, it's just, I always find it odd when a team makes changes to a squad and really it just turns out to be a road trip for them.

I can understand Taylor as KP had an injury but for Tremlett and Panesar, less understandable - especially if it means they can't play with their counties!

so umpiring and DRS has failed again. while the kawaja decision was atriocious, and should have been overturned, england suffered too.

With the umpires call lbw for smith i think. how the hell is it umpires call when the ball is knocking out the entire stump? not the edge of the ball on the edge of the stump but the whole pissing ball in the middle. thats not umpires call, thats out. It also reaffirms my belief that england were not wrong in challenging the call because hawk eye cant predict as technology isn't 100% accurate so that while the decision stands, the team referring shouldnt lose their review because its not their fault and its close enough to be out/notout so while you cant overturn the decision you shouldnt lose a review.

the smith edge. sorry but thats out. they got it right at lords, clear noise, nothing on pad/ground, he nicked it and should be given out.

and then the lbw, plumb, knocking middle out. shocking umpirining from everyone. not a great day from england either, thought they bowled reasonably well but aussies for once were better. cant see england winning this test from here, a draw would be nice
