dear fans of real madrid,

thank you very much for three wonderful years with all of you. my time at real madrid was unique and special for me. sometimes things develop differently, than i would have expected them to a few days ago.
although I’m leaving real madrid I wish you and the team the very best for the future.

now I’m looking forward to my new club: THE GUNNERS!

I admit I have given Wenger a hard time and my faith in him regarding player recruitment was pretty much at an all time low, but he really has surpassed anything I expected him to pull off with signing Ozil, this is a truly stellar signing, top shelf stuff, a geniune world class player.

I actually think aside from this being an amazing signing, it sends out a really BIG message across PL and more importantly Europe.

The message is that we are prepared to spend, and will and can compete for the BEST players in the world.

I'm on cloud 9 right now, really really delighted we have pulled this one off.

Arsenal have clinched one of the most stunning deadline-day deals in history by signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £40 million.

But Goal can reveal how the Gunners kept the move for the brilliant German playmaker shrouded in such secrecy that he visited the club's London Colney training headquarters last week to undergo the first phase of his medical and pose for official media photographs - all in a bid not to alert rivals Tottenham to his potential arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

Frustrated by Spurs dragging their feet in the final stages of negotiations for Gareth Bale, Madrid colluded in a covert operation with Arsenal that would end with Ozil moving to London almost immediately after he was replaced at the Santiago Bernabeu.

If this is all there is and they go back to the skinflint policies then the fans will row back as well no doubt. But they spent and we've all said just a bit of investment and we can push on. Let's not get silly.

Wenger is still not the manager who is going to go out and buy that type of player every window.

He has done it because the club needs it, not necessarily because it's what he would want to spend.

It puts a marker down though, and that is what we wanted.

Hopefully it will persuade a few other players of more reasonable value (42m is a fuck load of money, and I'm not comfortable with any club spending that), but of good quality to join us, if we need them.

I still have faith in the core of this side though. Wilshere, Cazorla, Ramsey, Theo, AOC, Gibbs, Kos, Merts, Chesney, Giroud, Flamini, Podolski, Sagna, Jenks....

Some need improvement, others are improving, some are experieneced, some aren't. It's a nice blend we have now.

I hope so too. It seems wenger convinced ozil to reject more money from psg amd play for us. You have to wonder what he said to make that happen. Ozil is a genuine world class player, others will see him go amd think actually it's not a bad place to go. We paid the big money amd wages amd got it done. The first one is the hardest, others will hopefully follow.

I think when you have a number of players from the International setup it often helps and it makes the potential new signing feel like it will be easier to settle in and he'll have players from his own country who can help him and who he can socialise with.

As I said before my only hope we'd get him lay with the fact we have a number of German players on our books. It's a big move for a foreign player to have to move country, find a new house when he doesn't know anyone and can be daunting, essentially they're changing their whole life.

We really needed a signing like this. It's arguable that a few players in the £20m range would have made for a stronger squad overall but a marquee signing like this gives everyone a lift, the fans and the players. It's got Gooners buzzing again.

There is no denying that Santi is superb in that position but I reckon he can make the left hand side his own and will put in decent performances once he finally beds down there.

Ozil's assist stats have been superb over the past 3 years and I reckon he will chip in with a healthy goal return too once he aclimatises to PL.

Yeah, our squad is still short in a few areas. But for a start I think most fans want to be consistently excited by our football again. Barring something stupid, there's no way Ozil, Cazorla, Wilshere, Walcott and so on won't make that happen.

 from all reports amd ozil own quotes it was one phone call with wenger that convinced him. Wenger has his faults but to convince a world class player to leave Madrid to play for him is stunning.

Credit where credit's due, he's signed a top quality player who will make a big difference to the team IMO.

Has there ever been a more exciting impressive signing from abroad to the premier league then ozil?

Saw this question on twitter. My guess is not many. Bergkamp for one but who else?

England and Arsenal forward Theo Walcott is facing the media at St George's Park ahead of Friday's World Cup qualifier with Moldova. The first question is about Arsenal's new signing Mesut Ozil.

"It's very exciting. I played against him for England Under 21s, he showed his qualities then and he has showed them since," says Walcott. "He's a great addition and personally I'm looking forward to playing alongside him."

Sky Sports said Stan was involved too. I think they've heard the fans. Good job on all parts. We've waited a long time for this. Time to bring home the title!

Hope he's rested for the Sunderland game tbh.

I want his first game to be the week after v Stoke. I'll be there.

Yes it's selfish of me but doubt we'll buy another world class player anytime soon so I'm right to be little bit selfish

I like the idea of Cazorla/Ozil interchanging every 15-20 mins

You could play 4222. I remember Spain battered England 2-0 with that once.

Flamini-Ramsey
Ozil-Cazorla
Walcott-Giroud (with Walcott having the licence to peel off right/left)

Only reason it wouldn't work is Jenkinson is bum cheeks.

Wilshere won't get a game mind :rose:

The overwhelming feeling I get is that quality signings change the way everyone feels at a club, they create a buzz of excitement amongst the fans and players.

Sometimes signings are the answer.

2010 world cup is when I really recognised this guy was top top notch, Real got him at a bargain price when they signed him then.

2009 under 21 tournament for me.

Been a fan ever since and now he's home, he's officially my 2nd best arsenal player ever

Arsenal ticket site has gone down. I wonder why!

They brought in £10mill in transfers out, even with God's wages there must be another £7mill saved on the wage bill. Double that up at the minimum to reflect length of contracts for players out. You could say they shaved £24mill over the coming 24 months. Less £42mill fees, for an investment of £18mill. Say £5mill is avoided in payments to the scummy, bastard, leech sons of whores HMRC, maybe even more. This could have cost them as little as £10mill-£15mill in rough terms. And how much do they think they'll get back in shirt and ticket sales alone? Plus I now give us a great chance of progressing in the CL. This was a nobrainer deal, if they hadn't done it they would have been mad. All very rough figures and it doesn't work as neatly as that, no doubt, but in principle we'd really have to fuck things up massively to lose on this deal.

I also think there's an element of sell on value involved. They've covered their arses in every way. Much smarter than envisaged, not a sign of incompetence there and I'll be the first to admit it. The Suarez deal would have ticked the same boxes. They could have done this sooner but they are infuriatingly efficient with the finances.

Now the question is whether this is the start of delivery on their promises or a temporary gesture that suited them as much as the fans. Has to be the former, doesn't it? They can't stop now surely?

is that factoring in a £30-37m commitment to his wages?

We EASILY signed the best player of this window, including all the Euro deals. I'd have this guy over Neymar any day. And as for Bale :haha: Real just got fucked heavily in the arse and a lot of their fans are not happy about it. That Bale carnival didn't go entirely according to plan yesterday, there were mutterings in the crowd.

That said, Bergkamp was the biggest deal I can remember. That deal put the club on a whole new level. This deal starts to bring us back to that level.
