Never heard of him but if it gives Chesney a kick up the arse then good.

Not sure who this guy is, not sure why we would need him either, clearly he'd just be a backup for our undisputed number 1 Chesney.

Hope he's not as bad as Almunia was.

He has 6 international caps for Italy so he can't be that shit what with them having Buffon!

NEW KEEPER AT ARSENAL
Italy football writer James Horncastle: "For Arsenal fans right now, it's all about Mesut Ozil and rightly so, but let's briefly turn our attention to Emiliano Viviano, goalkeeper of Serie B side Palermo who they're expected to sign on loan.

"The 27-year-old was once one of the most promising shot stoppers in Italy and, along with the now Paris Saint-Germain number one Salvatore Sirigu, stood in for the injured Gigi Buffon during the Azzurri's initial qualifiers for Euro 2012.

"After shining at Brescia and then Bologna, he joined Inter where the plan was to groom him as Julio Cesar's successor. Unfortunately it never worked out that way. Viviano tore a ligament and since then has struggled to recover his best form, even at hometown club Fiorentina, where he spent last season on loan."

Injury prone and shit

Welcome home

Chesney will develop into a beast of a GK this season so this is just back up. Don't really care about backup GKs tbh, can't be that much worse than any of the other top sides

The main reason ches has been so shit cos he has no competition.

A shit back up will not provide that

Exactly right.

Almost exactly right. I think the key point you are missing is Koscielny who was almost single handedly responsible for us keeping a clean sheet in that game against the spuds.

Italy international goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has joined Arsenal from Serie B side Palermo on a season-long loan.
The 27-year-old spent last term on loan at Fiorentina, where he kept 11 clean sheets in 32 league appearances.
Viviano began his career at Brescia, and has also had spells in Serie A with Inter Milan and Bologna.
An Italian international, with six caps for his country, Viviano will be an important member of the Arsenal first-team squad, providing valuable back up and competition for Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski.
Arsčne Wenger said of the loan signing: “Viviano is a player that we have rated for some time and we are very pleased to have signed him on loan. He’s experienced and has proved himself at a high level, and provides us with excellent cover to our existing goalkeepers.”
Everyone at Arsenal wishes Emiliano every success at the Club.
The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

Welcome

Not got my hopes up but if he can get his confidence back then SCZ could have some real competition. Should probably have signed Cesar but meh!

Viviano, looks just a little bit mental in the Lehmann sense of Mental...we need that! Liked the interview he gave...yep, from the youtube footage... he looks a bit mental... Sczez has the potential to be a bit lehmann mental but think this Viviano might be closer! Let's hope he is a good mental goalkeeper!

He's not a keeper that will seriously challenge Ches though.

No surprise that Ches has shown his best form whilst the window was still open cos there was a threat of a quality keeper coming in.

Now it's closed, it'll be back to normal no doubt.

Viviano is 3rd choice so won't even play in cup games

Pretty sure Fabianski isn't 2nd choice anymore after all his injury problems, then saying he wants to leave...think he's only got a year left on his contract and he's not renewing...a shame as he had one good spell...but maybe this Viviano is a bit of an unknown...good age...good experience and I think he might be a better threat of competition than fabbi. Just a hunch...I still would have preferred giving Begovic number 1 and making Szez work more!

I am trying to ignore any looks comparisons to Almunia...and hope he is a much better keeper

Hmmm
Agreed that Wenger's track record pretty poor when it comes to Keepers...BUT Lehmann was brilliant...wright, poom, almunia, manninger,
