Read the cunts on the BBC. All the mega bottling, laughing-stock spuds are 8s an 9s, all brilliant. Everyone who could be challenging them for a spot is shite, 5s and 6s. That must be true because the BBC said.

Dier is a shit fouler who will get sent off in every game he plays that isn't reffed by a PL turd.

Alli is a bog standard PL pubber.

Okay, Kane is the real deal, but he's a spud so 5/10

But fashion is fashion and the world champion bottlers are big fashion right now. Maybe they won't choke and collapse on an even bigger stage?

Very simplistic, probably overly so, but England bring on Townsend and Spain bring on Isco.

Stones isn't a very good defender (just play him in defensive mid, at least he's further away from the goal!), Rashford may well be a good finisher/box player but he isn't a rounded footballer yet, understandably and not a criticism, thanks for turning up Theo.

At least Clive and Hoddle aren't getting ahead of themselves. "It's like watching Spain" after three passes. Three.

I don't think there is a manager who would make a difference really. Just let Southgate get on with it.

The problem is not who's in charge, it's the fact that no one enjoys playing for the national team. Until that mentality changes we will always be useless.

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie
16-11-2016, 07:17 AM
No the problem is the players just aren't as good as the media hypes them up to be

And I don't see how someone was a total incompetent at club level, has all the personality of a cup of milky tea should be left to get on with it.

Rooney likes Southgate because he wants someone who will keep him as captain but won't push him to up his performances at all, the players want a man who will give them an easy ride.....fuck what they want.

Marc Overmars
16-11-2016, 07:54 AM
To be honest I don't think the media hype them up that much anymore really, we have some ok players but nowhere near the standard of the leading nations. Rooney has his apologists because he's Rooney but the others have all faced questions.

Woy gave them an easy ride and they were shit. Capello was stern with them and they were shit. Managing England is like trying to get blood from a stone.

They just don't care for the national team in the same way as they do for their clubs but they're all afraid to admit it. Only Scholes had the balls to say it when he retired early. Ledley King said the same recently as well, he said it was like meeting up with strangers and felt more comfortable with his club mates.

Goonermerree
16-11-2016, 09:08 AM
I don't think it matters who is in charge either. Sven was the last most successful manager, at least we got the the quarter finals. The last three full England managers hadn't achieved anything much in the game, we have to face facts, our players are not world class and they don't play for their countries the way that Wales, Ireland and N. Ireland play, with passion and pride.

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie

None of this convinces me we should have a total limp wristed failure in charge of England

Capello was a failure because he couldn't be bothered to learn English and was in the job for the pay cheque

Even though Allardyce was crooked, he was still set up by the media and this was a guy who loved the idea of the job just enough to pass that onto the players, he wouldn't have been a soft touch but he's also good at forging team bonding which is hard in a day where footballers care more about selfies, cars, spit roasting underage girls and having more money than even they can spunk up the wall.

I think it was a major blunder sacking Allardyce, but the FA did it because he wasn't one of them.

Game's all about money, merchandising, image rights and every other kind of bullshit. But there's still just enough time for a little bit of football and that's what the England team does, it plays a little bit of football. Just a smidgeon. That's all that's required to keep the bandwagon rolling. Turning out in the shirt adds how much to the contract back at the club? Lands you how many commercial deals? Same will apply for Southgate, all those paydays coming up as the master opinion on the halftime hype shows. The book deal, How England Almost Killed Me... Glorious Failure... She Swore She Was Eighteen...

On the other side of the coin there's the identity issue. It's a crime to be nationalistic and a lot of the players hit the unholy trifecta, English, White, Male. Where's the pride in that new confusion? As fans we are still allowed, and even encouraged, to belt out God Save the Queen, so there's that I suppose. This could all be solved if only the FA has the guts to allow immigrant, black, lesbians into this last male reserve. Okay, so I exaggerate (slightly) but just how much pride is still involved in pulling on the shirt, measured in nano units?

So the football is awful, the cultural identity destroyed, the hype created ridiculous expectations and the whole stupid point of it has become money. I wonder why what used to be an escape from the humdrum has suddenly become a predictable part of it? It's a mystery.

This is what Southgate walks into hoping somehow to turn it around, like the last English guy or the non-English guy before him. And all the rest. He's as good as anyone else who'd be dumb enough to take the job and I don't envy him. That's why Wenger would never take it. The old brain cells would kick in and forbid it.

I was going to lump that in with the pride and passion thing. It applies to all of us English though. When we are out on the streets celebrating a victory, we're classed as arrogant and you'd think we'd won the world cup. When other teams be it Wales or some African team take to the streets to celebrate then everyone goes 'aw, isn't it nice to see them celebrate.'

Nationalism and Patriotism has been made nascent by the wrong type of people - the sneering effetes who have long decided to be offended on the behalf of others and those on the other side who look upon it as a test of purity.

I don't think any country has ever been so self-conscious over National Pride as the English, i think it's as much the English mentality of over politeness that contributes as much as white guilt.

I personally don't give it too much time because it's completely arbitrary, English/British influence both good and bad has left permanent effects around the globe and we have left a sizeable footprint for such a small island nation, but being born here doesn't give me any claim to any of it.....but on the other hand I'm not ashamed of it either.

I don't think there is a manager who would make a difference really. Just let Southgate get on with it.

The problem is not who's in charge, it's the fact that no one enjoys playing for the national team. Until that mentality changes we will always be useless.

:good: That and frankly I don't think our players are that good We're a mid-table side at best.

No the players aren't any good, no it might not make a difference but the English National side should always have ambition if nothing else. Having Southgate as manager is the equivalent of waving the white flag.

What manager would point toward ambition?

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie
16-11-2016, 11:08 AM
Well that is for the FA to decide, i've been clear that i think sacking Allardyce was an over the top reaction. He didn't engage in illegal activity he pointed out that the loopholes exist by being entrapped....yes he was both stupid and greedy to do it, but i think the FA took the opportunity to get rid of a man they never wanted in the first place in a giant arse covering exercise.

Allardyce was at least a willingness to try something different, people have in this thread cited how England players look upon their team mates as strangers and Allardyce is known for team bonding .....and this was a man who genuinely had passion for the job, wanted the job for so many years. It might not have worked but at least we were trying. Southgate seems to be an admission that mediocrity is all we can attain.

Kano
16-11-2016, 11:21 AM
Well that's a cop out of an answer. What if the FA feel Southgate demonstrates enough ambition in his plan for the team? Surely that means he's met their criteria, which is what counts in your eyes.

It is a cop out, but it's no more of a cop out than appointing Southgate..... I'm not trying to claim it's an easy decision

The FA flirted with the idea of Wenger and didn't do much to dissuade the press from speculating on that, and if that's really the man they want why not just say to Wenger we know you are out of contract at the end of the season with Arsenal the job is yours next summer if you want it.

Would it work?....maybe not but actually at least trying it shows ambition.

Who then?...Eddie Howe?, Alan Pardew?, Sean Dyche?.....the point is why the rush to make an appointment. If they regard Southgate as a safe pair of hands why not have him until the end of the season and then use that time to think of a long term approach.

No i don't think Southgate would be a disaster, if we appoint him we will qualify for the World Cup and the pampered England stars will be happy.....and like i say if that's the extent of our ambition fine, i just think England has an obligation to aim higher.

a few million isn't exactly a big risk is it?

What i'm saying if they were that committed to Allardyce they would have made more effort to keep him, i don't think they foresaw having to get rid of him so soon.....but neither did they make much effort to avoid it.

GHEL King Danny Mills:

There is a fine line between going down easily and cheating, it is very difficult to tell.

I don't have any issue with a player making the most of a situation, if there is any contact and you go over that's down to the referee to make a decision - if you felt contact, that's fine.

The problem I have is when players initiate the contact or go over when there is no contact at all.

I think there is a huge difference between making the most of a situation and going down without contact.
