Someone on twitter has offered me a ticket, I'm paying more than face value but that doesn't bother me. The thing that worries me is that I've 'outbid' someone else and he's agreed to sell it to me, but I need to be 100% sure it's genuine as I need to book time off work. He's telling me to meet him at 7.30 so we go in together as the ticket is on his membership card, but all of the tickets I've seen are paper tickets. Has anyone got a ticket for tomorrow? Can they confirm whether they are paper tickets or on membership card? I don't want to book time off work then go to the stadium and see this guy has had me on for a laugh or something. Any help appreciated.

Hmm he seems intent on offering to every tom dick and harry even when we've agreed.

I think I'll give his offer a miss.

Speaking of tickets and memberships.... Just got my seasons membership pack through the post. Why do they always come this far into the season?

I got my pack last week. It is par for the course.

Makes sense really, last year the JG pack came earlier and had RvP shite in it. At least our pack has Ozil stuff in it.

@SWAYR - most get entry via their card for this if you book early enough, but I'd be tempted to give it a miss as well. It annoys me when fans gouge other fans. If I were you, I'd put in a better (but realistic) bid and not turn up.

I'm going but the ticket is on my card, however if this guy purchased extra tickets during the friends and family period they will be paper tickets. I'm not sure what he means about going in together though, either he's got a paper ticket for you or he's giving you his or another card to use, in which case I'd ask him to bring the seat confirmation email to make sure it's legit. Either way you don't need to be with him if you have a valid form of entry.

I'm sure there are some genuine sellers out there but when someone doesn't really seem like they know what they're talking about then it's probably best to give it a miss.

It would make sense going through together if it's on a membership card as the bloke will want his membership card back once you're in.
If you're not paying him till you meet up and you're going in together it doesn't seem like there's much risk.

EDIT: Good idea to ask to see the confirmation email though.

whenever i buy tickets off twitter, i always get them to send me a photo of the ticket (if its paper) with their twitter username written on paper held with it to prove they have the ticket or the confirmation email seen so many people stealing photos of tickets, so they can show others they have them when they don't. always use paypal or meet and pay cash

yeah true but you can usually tell a photoshop to the real thing. i find it unlikely these scammers will be experts in photoshop. however, then the back up to that, is pay by paypal and screenshot/print emails of all your conversation. if you pay by paypal business and ticket turns out to be a scam, they refund the money straight away if you have evidence.

its easy with ticket exchange for home games, but i tend to use twitter for away games. i don't have credits so near impossible for me to actually get them. but yeah, its never 100% guaranteed, i got scammed the other day for swansea but because of paypal i got my money back. if you are sensible, pay via paypal or meet them then you are quite safe, if you pay by bank transfer, you won't get the money back.

@ SWAYR - How did you end up getting your ticket?

She Wore A Yellow Ribbon
31-10-2013, 12:36 AM
Basically took the risk and went along. He did twitter me in the afternoon asking me if I still wanted the ticket so at that point I kinda knew he was serious. He wouldn't go to all the trouble of getting in contact the next day if he was having me on.

My main worry was that a) he was telling people to follow him and DM him just to gain followers or b) he was going to have a never ending bidding war, have me (and perhaps a few others) turn up to the stadium, then sell the ticket to one of us, leaving the rest ticketless and stranded around the Emirates.

And it was all made harder because I had to book time off work, but I only wanted to book time off if I was definitely going to the stadium otherwise it would have been a bit of a waste, especially when I could have just sky+'d the game and watched it after my shift.

Luckily it all worked out fine though. I actually sat next to him the whole game cause he used his ST and mine was on his mates, so we chatted about the Arsenal throughout. Shared the same sentiments which made it easier. Told him if he has any spares for home in the future to give me a ring. I offered the same sentiment for away games :good:

That account is brilliant. Especially for people like me who's only able to know whether I can go to games a few days in advance due to work. That account really helps.

And I always tell the buyer I'm willing to pick up wherever he wants me to go. Much prefer risking 45 mins travel and £4-£5 on oyster instead of getting scammed £80-£100 through bank transfers.

It might depend on how long you've been with them but generally they're desperate to keep you as a customer, so if you just call to downgrade your package (or even cancel) they will probably offer you a discounted deal. I've currently got movies and sports half price for a year, just because I wanted to cancel movies after a free trial.

The exact same deal they've been offering me for the past six months after I finally cancelled my Sky TV subscription (still with them for phone + internet) mainly because I barely was watching anything on there.

Anyway they're well desperate it seems to get me back. Marc keeps calling me every month asking me why I haven't taken up the offer and what he can do to persuade me.

Sky Sports and movies are nice and it's good value and all but apart from the occasional Arsenal match and perhaps the Cricket I doubt I'd be interested in anything on there. Still would just end up being a waste of my money.

A friend had one of 'those' satellite dishes put in and he has every sports channel, sky movies, music, docu's, foreign channels, the lot, in HD for £230 a year.

The guy comes over every year and if you want to continue with his dish he tops the codes up.

At the moment I'm paying nearly £500 a year for 5 sports channels, none of which are in HD.

I think I'll be ringing this guy up soon and cancelling my sky subscription. And by soon I mean tomorrow.

I'm not sure you'd be able to get 5 tickets all together, but you could have a search on twitter for 'arsenal_tickets' , and they tweet people who are selling match tickets for face value, in most cases meeting up outside the ground.

https://twitter.com/arsenal_tickets

If someone is selling a ticket, contact them, get their mobile, and meet outside the ground (just make sure your in a well crowded place/go with someone else with you)

If you are really desperate, you could search a football tout website, but you'd get ripped off , and have to pay triple or so the ticket price. And fuck those cunts.

I ski Banff every year. The scenery is spectacular, and the snow is ultra reliable - particularly at Sunshine Ski Village. http://www.skibanff.com/ . I know the mountain well, having skied there since I was 10, and can pretty much pick out the best runs for whatever conditions while avoiding the crowds. One of the best things about skiing in Banff is that the liftlines are faaaaaar smaller and quicker than in Europe and with better snow.

If you check out the conditions tab and go to the webcams, you'll see that they have a fair amount of snow already.

Banff is near 3 mountains - Norquay - closest, but smallest, Sunshine (~20 minute transfer)- the best snow and Lake Louise (~30 min transfer) - excellent scenery and largest amount of terrain. I prefer Sunshine because of the snow and also because you have to take a Gondola to get to the ski terrain. This means you are right smack in the back country - no buildings - other than the amenities there and no sight of roads. Nothing but mountains - I love it.

Other than at Sunshine - there is no ski in/ski out accommodation - you need to take a shuttle service to all the mountains. Sunshine has it's own hotel - located at the top of the Gondola. It is a pricy, but great place to stay for a couple of nights, but I wouldn't stay there for more than that because it is remote.

Banff townsite has plenty of restaurants, bars and a couple of clubs (Outabounds and Aurora) but if it is kicking nightlife you're after, there are better places than Banff. It gets going pretty late though. If you're after nightlife, as well as skiing, Whistler is a better bet and you can ski direct to the town. I turned up there on a Monday night in January and the place was jumping. That said - Wild Bill's in Banff http://www.wbsaloon.com/ is good when there are bands on. Admittedly, when I go, I don't do nightlife much, as I really go to ski.

It also depends on when you want to go. Banff is best late in the season - you'll always have a tonne of snow then and the temperatures will be milder. I usually go late March/early April, but there is skiing until mid May. If you are planning on going January/February, it can be seriously fricken cold. That said - in mid January, there is usually a lot going off in town because Alec Baldwin and a bunch of celebrities ski there for a fundraising bash every January - usually, mid-month. So there tends to be stuff going off then - but I've never been there for that.

The thing about Banff is - although it is beautiful, you need transport to get to any of the skiing. So it does not have the same ski resort feeling you'd get at places where you ski from mountain down to the resort itself.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

It took me a few hours of trying. You just need to keep refreshing - they come up quick and get snapped up fast. If you keep trying, you'll get 5. I'm very fond of the French Alps because it's where I learned to ski, haven't been there for about 10 years now though. Tignes, Val Thorens and Val D'isere are all great resorts.

If you guys are into your apres ski, I would highly suggest St Anton, Austria. However the runs are quite tough and probably not the best place to go if you're inexperienced.

As for Canada, I've been to Whistler and it was brilliant, however IMO we've got the best slopes on our doorstep in Europe so I think it's a long way to go for something you can do closer to home, particularly as the £ is not what it used to be.

Either way a ski holiday is awesome and you'll have fun wherever you go.
