View Full Version : Kolo toure - Arsenal were wrong to sell me

“It is always special playing against them but at the same time I want to show them they made a mistake in letting me go.

This from a man who got a break from Arsenal in the first place and eventauilly put in a transfer request to go to City.

Prick.

I think Wenger allowed that rotten toad Gallarse to come in and get under his skin. I still think of Kolo fondly myself even if he did hand in a transfer request, which I don't know is actually true.

The guy scares me half to death, every game, without fail. And for some reason at random intervals, he thinks he's his brother and goes on some mazy, 40 yard run.

Never had a problem with Kolo, always thought he was a decent enough guy, he just turned a bit shit in the end after the disastrous partnership with Gallas.

Nice guy, not very good player.

He's fine when he's got someone to babysit him (like Sol) but he's a disaster zone if you want him to take charge.

And that car he sold me was a lemon.

You mean in 05/06 when he lead the defence to a CL final and clean sheet record?

Not sure what Kolo's comments were about but he was the one who handed in the transfer request. I think we even rejected his request at first but he was too persistent. Arsene, being the gentleman he is, let him go. I don't know why he lets players walk all over him.

Kolo is genuinely a lovely guy though. I hope there's no booing this weekend. There's nobody that deserves it less.

He was terrible in the league that season. He had the mighty Phillipe Senderos as his defensive partner for most of that CL run - was it a mistake selling him too?

It wasn't a mistake to sell him if his heart wasn't in it. The mistake was inadequately replacing him.

Nope, he wasnt terrible in the league. His season that year was better than Vermaleans first that all you were crying about and I believe we conceded less goals. The fact he had to carry Senderos throughout makes it all the more remarkable.

:haha:

He was a good defender but never a great one. He was far too weak positionally and got drawn out too easily, similar to Vermaelen who you have it in against. Kolo got himself out of trouble sometimes purely out of his athleticism but that never works against decent teams if you get caught out in the first place.

Our defense struggled in the league that season, which made our CL defensive record that much more odd. And yes, that included Toure.
Seriously get your blinkers off. He carried no one, and was normally the one being carried by Sol.

Don't know what this fake-Nayan weirdo is on about though. We were happy to sell him for £16m rather than him forcing a move. He was a committed player whose main asset was his recovery pace (which he desperately needed because he was never in position). Thankfully for our success, he was playing alongside the best CB in England over the last 20 years. We could've put Jenkinson next to Sol and maintained a respectable record.

Besides, Yaya was denied a work permit. That's why he was slumming it in Ukraine and Greece for years.

I have no complaints about Toure. He was a good servant to the Club and a part of many great moments for us. He is a player that should always get a warm welcome from Arsenal fans.

As for his brother - I saw him play in the Barnet friendly - it was clear we wanted to sign him, but we're not Man United so he wasn't granted a work permit.

Arsène Wenger missed out on signing Yaya Toure because of red tape.
The powerful midfielder had a trial with Arsenal as a youngster but he was not eligible for a work permit and had to return to Belgium, where he played for Beveren.
Toure - the younger brother of former Gunner Kolo - moved to Ukraine and went on to play for Olympiakos in Greece before joining Barcelona and winning a host of trophies, including the Champions League.
The 27-year-old swapped the Nou Camp for Manchester City last summer and is expected to line up against Arsenal on Wednesday night. Wenger knows that things could have been very different.
"I know him very well, since he was 15 years old, so I know him for a long time. He is a top-class talent," said Wenger.
"He was here as a young boy but we cannot get players in here if they are not internationals. He had no work permit and was too young. We tried to wait until when he was in Belgium, we tried to get him a European passport.
"He was not patient enough and left for Metalurh Donetsk, that is the club where he went.
"He has made a big impact - he is a top class player. He came out of a frustrating season at Barcelona because he didn’t play last season at all but the year before he played and was very influential.
"Last year he lost his position for Busquets and in midfield, he is the kind of player who needs to play, Yaya - we know him very well."

there we go. yaya couldn't sign due to work permit

Dont kid yourself friend. I know Eboue isnt as English as you would have hoped but you cannot compare an international with a league 1 player.

I promise you Jenkinson wouldnt get a game for Galatasary, he would be escorted out the building.

I wouldn't wish jenks on anyone but as for you 1st line - plenty of his Ivory Coast comrades would love to play league 1 rather than using an Elephants arse as a goal. Come to think of it league 1 would have suited Eboue before he got sent to the graveyard of European football.

Kolo probably felt that the transfer request would make the club listen to his qualms a little more and perhaps show him how much we wanted him and how much he was valued. Obviously ill advised but I am just guessing what was on his mind here.....

I have little ill feeling for him, on the contrary I'm very fond of him and it seems a shame he has had to stomach doing the rounds at City and Liverpool.
Eboue was a reasonably talented but frustrating player and I really think Jenkinson is better than people are making out. He didn't have his bets game the other day, but I definitely see a future for him here and he is mos def a premier league player imo.

As for the goal it was superb but you have failed to send his previous few hundred shots on goal that ended up in kebab alley & where are the videos of this quality at he's many years are the Arse? How about sending us the one where he jumped on the back of a Liverpool player in the box to give away a penalty in the last seconds of an important game that we'd fought hard to get back into - a deccision a non-league player wouldn't have made.

Didnt like playing with Gallas? boo fucking hoo. How about being a professional and playing wherever and with whomever you are told to? Mug.
And, despite Gallas being a grade A loon while here and ultimately joining Spurs (albeit after we refused to offer him a new contract fyi) at no point did he hand in a transfer request mid season like Toure did.
Nor ddid Gallas give it the big'n about how he was the wronged party and he will show Arsenal they were wrong to turf him out.

I was never impressed at his handing in a transfer request simply because he didn't like galas. I'm mildly irked that he glosses over all this to then talk about how arsenal were wrong to sell him. Despite his having instigated the move.

Ex gunners who don't take the piss get a round of polite applause when they come back wearing another clubs shirt.
