No its not. Football is all about impetus, and for all we might hate it - Liverpool went into this potential banana skin with more momentum than we did - and the indications are that they can last the pace better than us...

It's inane and irrational and always occurs after a bad result, not just from you.

Another 'what does this result show us thread' would probably suffice rather than letting your emotions spill out into every thread.

Football is an emotional sport. Once you suppress reaction to individual results it becomes an accounting exercise. But if you can't see that Liverpool are maintaining momentum while we fail to confound our critics time and time again, you are fooling yourself.

He didn't say anything about momentum - he specifically mentioned the tendency for people to talk about specific results against specific teams which is pretty much meaningless 99.9% of the time - as was graphically spelled out in his first reply to you.

He didn't, but I did originally. There's a tendency on this forum for posters to try to take an intellectual or moral high-ground over so-called reactionaries. Well being reactive may be stupid when it goes too far, when it is measured it is every bit as valid as the so-called 'calm heads'. Like it or not, football is a game of intuition as much as it is of anything else, and this is why it is completely valid to look at today's results and to use these to support, or deny general thoughts about how a team is performing. Your challenge, frankly, is denying that results like today don't demonstrate the views that most people have had about ourselves and Liverpool and our respective trajectories. If we win our next three on the bounce and they falter then a more optimistic view may be justified. But ATM there is nothing unwarranted about looking at how the team on our shoulder before today got the result away at Southampton that we singularly failed to.
