Credit to Sanogo. A very rough and raw player but he changed the game when he came on. I was baffled with the sub but Wenger got it right. We looked very flat and struggled to get chances on goal but Sanogo's intro swung the game a little.

Great free kick from Santi. That was a pressure moment and he delivered. Ramsey with that brilliant winner. Still have no idea how he stuck that in. So happy to win the game outright off our own effort and not have to go to penalties or have the ref award a deciding penalty. He had a bad game but I'd feel a little sour if that's how the game was decided. It was fitting for someone to step and glad it was our man of the season.

Some shaky performances out there that needs addressing. Kos and Merts were really nervy and made costly mistakes. Fabianski too. Full backs were ok besides Gibbs miss, but the kid played on with a bad ankle so credit to him for seeing it out. Arteta seemed ineffective, Ozil was ineffective, Giroud got better when Sanogo came on...Pod was rightly subbed but I always feel he has a goal in him. But we at least made it through.

Must have been hell for Wenger sitting through that. Good to see him cheer at the end of all that. It's been a long time coming. Honestly, I'd like to see him walk away on a high. We should be putting our foot down next season to build on this momentum. We're not a million miles away from our rivals. Nobody ran away with the league and there were a lot of slip ups. It was an opportunity missed but it's one we have to get over and do better next year.

As MO put it the other day, Sanogo is just a battering ram, he has no footballing ability but makes himself present. Up top with Giroud, and with midfield runners like Ramsey though, it can be a fairly decent tactic from the usual of defences just defending comfortably against us.

Marc Overmars
18-05-2014, 09:39 AM
Sanogo does make me laugh. Rough and raw doesn't even do it justice, I honestly think I have a better touch and technique than him.

But he is quick and a tank, so there's certainly something to work with there.

Maybe we won't be so afraid to play 2 up front from now on as well.

Sanogo is fairly useless ability wise, but runs around a lot and caused their tired defenders problems leaving more space for our better players.

So happy for Ramsey and Wenger. Seeing their elation at the end was a wonderful moment.

Sanogo is an odd one; it does seem like he is a completely blank canvas (for now presumably) Wenger to work with and with no idea what kind of player he will actually go on to be.

On the game itself, we started quite awfully, in what we have seen in the important games on a neutral/away setting throughout. I guess with so many mess-ups it should have been expected we were not going to progress serenely in a final. Arsenal - Newcastle in 1998 this was not.

He has a presence up front and had more of an influence on the game than Podolski. But he needs to sort out his feet when he's in on goal. Lacks the sharpness to create space for himself and unleash a shot. You can see him attempt to create that inch of space, but just seems very clumsy. But he has his uses and could turn out to be a good player.

Sanogo looks to me like someone whom has yet to master the ability of bipedal movement, hes still struggling to completely understand how best to use his legs. The ball got played to him in so many promising positions but his total lack of a first touch and his ganglyness seemed to make him get tied up in knots.
The reason we looked more dangerous when he came on was we were playing with two strikers and for me pushing Podolski further up would have been a better option, what I particularly like about Ozil is that he's clearly our central midfielder who is most comfortable playing wide, yes obviously his tendency is to cut back inside rather than put in crosses but he's certainly more competent wide left than Podolski.

I felt like shit after 8 minutes and thought this was gonna be another Liverpool/Chelsea but luckily Gibbs cleared off the line and then it was a different game afterwards

Ramsey's finish was fitting, he's been scoring so many imorant goals this season and deserved to get the winner. Wenger deserves his trophy after so long without one and hopefully this will kick start a new era for us.

2-0 down in 8 minutes and everyone thought here we go again.

But they underestimated our mental strength. Players didn't stop believing.

Ramsey was brilliant. Jack was excellent when he came on. Gibbs's clearance off the line ended up being crucial.

RECOVERY!

I shed a tear at the final whistle. It was just too much. Too long to wait for a trophy.

Milk this as much as possible. If Wenger sees how much winning trophies means to fans then he might turn into a beast winner again.

It wasn't a vintage performance but we were worthy winners, unquestionably. I watched some highlights compilations this morning to see how it looked in the cold light of day (being relaxed rather than having my nerves shredded!) and really, after the early Hull storm, it was all Arsenal. Not all the chances we had were clear cut like the Gibbs miss, but we certainly created more and as the game wore on, we kept creating them. Giroud had some shots besides hitting the bar and Sanogo was almost in at least once, and so on. Hull were largely restricted to that early spell of set pieces and the extraordinary error from Fabianski, unless you count Huddlestone's two long shots that were well hit but always rising. We didn't play well, and some guys were more off it than others but we got the job done - there wasn't anything lucky about it. It was hard work on the day but it was a deserved triumph. Fair play to Hull for making it such an exciting contest.

Wenger has come under a lot of stick over his tactics and people have described it, probably fairly, as the weakest part of his game. However he deserves credit for getting his substitions right in this final. Not just Sanogo for Podolski but also bringing on Rosicky and Wilshere for that final push at the death. Good calls, so he deserves as much credit as the players for turning this final around.

As for the referee, I don't think he had an especially good game. Steve Bruce complained about our two set pieces. He was certainly wrong about the first but he was right that the corner wasn't a corner. However I find it hard to have sympathy because they moved their set piece for the second goal forwards by 9 yards and we had multiple penalty appeals turned down. The appeals varied in strength but it's absurd that we didn't get any of them, we should have had at least the two on Cazorla. So it balances out, or maybe not since my suggestion is they got the easier ride from the ref.

However that isn't worth dwelling on because we won anyway and quite rightly so. Good work guys :scarf:

On a serious note we really need to do something about our piss poor starts before next season - it can't go on. Even Wenger has to realise that it's not been a coincidence. If that had been Liverpool or Chelsea yesterday the chances are that we would have been even further behind and unlikely to have made the comeback we did. Thank fuck Hull are a bit shit.

Pretty much sums up why it makes sense to play two up top against the shit teams or at home. Our last title before this came when we played two up top and this one came when we played 2 up top for the second half during the semis and finals.

Think it was very important to close this one out. For the younger players it would’ve left a big psychological scar on their focus and development for next season. This squad and in particular Ozil needed a major confidence boost, and getting some tangible success should help.

Ramsey’s attitude and fitness levels have been top notch this season so glad he netted the winning goal. Puts him well on the way to becoming a club legend. With a rest and a full pre-season it’s hard to imagine him not improving further and driving the team up with him.

Butt hurt because they need some new material.

they are currently going with two options. the first being "its only hull and we didn't play that well" and the second is "can they win a trophy next year, thats the real test"

this season, we ruined all our critics ammunition, we went out and spent 40 million on a world class player and we won a trophy. the two big sticks the media use to beat us with of "they don't spend money on world class players" and "haven't won a trophy in x years" are gone and they can't cope

The blanket coverage that lasted a week was the give away. Of course they "disapproved", why would they approve of 20 easy yards of copy? They disapprove in the same way as a politician disapproves. They shake their head in public while milking whatever they can. If they'd genuinely disapproved, they wouldn't have underpinned the story with a post mortem on Wenger and headlines such as, "So is Jose right?" Instead they would have pressed on with a character assassination of Mourinho, as they do with anyone they can get between their teeth. Maureen gave them the prefect excuse and their response was a titter and a shake of the head before moving on to the main course - killing Wenger. Even now the criticism that should be heaped on Mourinho is muted. Just imagine the outcomes reversed, Mourinho coming off a cup win and Wenger empty handed. It would be open season and a field day.

I think you’re seeing stuff that isn’t there. I’ve seen worse from the media. They keep it respectful when it comes to Wenger and you want find many out there really going for him. Stewart Robson is probably his biggest critic and he seems like a lone voice out there. Most writers and pundits warn Arsenal fans to be careful of what you wish for. Some say he should go also, but it’s far from clear cut.

Respectful? Like when they had pictures of him falling over plastered everywhere, "Flat On his Arsenal?" That was one of the most disrespectful media moments I can recall and the vast majority of fans thought the same and told the bastards so. Hard to imagine that biased, fanatical fans have more perspective than the media whores, sorry "professionals", but it's true. I'm not saying the hate Wenger, or even dislike him. I'm saying they give that cock Morinho a free ride in comparison to the shit Wenger has to put up with. Wenger would be slaughtered and hounded out of the game if he did half of what that cock does.

That’s totally different to hounding him out and opinion of the job he’s doing at Arsenal. He was caught on camera falling over in public at the airport. That’s paparazzi, opportunist photography. That’s just the media in general. It’s tasteless in the same way they publish pictures of any celeb tripping over. Jennifer Lawrence has made the headlines twice for tripping over. Is there a deeper dark agenda behind those stories? No! If a bird were to shit on Jose from a great height and it happened to be caught on camera whilst he’s sitting in the stands, that would make the headlines. They wouldn’t pass up the opportunity just because it’s Jose.

Who or what is this stoke and why does spend its existence stalking Aaron Ramsey?

There can't be many Stoke knuckle-draggers who are old enough to remember where this animosity first came from in '71, so it's being passed down from generation to generation, which is even funnier, they are the fat, hateful sweaty ginger kids at the school disco, more to be pitied than feared, let them spout their bile, we're the ones going home with the hot chicks and the trophies.

Aaron Ramsey is the antichrist as he might not have accepted the apology of the oaf that broke his leg. It sounds reasonable to me.

i have lived in stoke on trent, it's not an exaggeration to say this is a fanbase made up of borderline psychotics, racists, thugs and criminals. Their opinion of us, our manager, our players etc counts for nothing....really when you think about it i'd be more upset if they liked us.

I once knew a girl from stoke, she used to dye her beard red and white.

Are you okay?....the only answer I can give would be subjective

Have you recovered?....debatable

Were you in prison there?....depends on your definition of the word

Did you choose to live there?....choose might be a stretch, but I chose to go to the university nearby (Keele)and then found out that my student accomodation was miles away in the city centre of Stoke on Trent (Hanley). Let this be a lesson to any young students, if you decide you'd rather go out on the piss than study this is the kind of thing you can expect to happen to you.

Who couldn't afford to do Coke
And so I found her, snorting washing powder
With her nostrils all bunged up with soap

Ah, they love us really! I mean without us no one would even know or care that they existed? At least with us around they're mildly interesting to some neutrals as 'that team that really, really hates Arsenal and broke that Arsenal player's leg'...
