It might break Peter Fleming's heart a little bit. That line is something Mac can dine out on for ever. Any company is just begging to have him in it saying it. Despite the fact we all know it (probably off by heart now).

Tbf to Serena, her ranking is down to her hardly playing than the loss today

There's that and not defending the ranking points she gained by winning this last year.

But from now on she'll have nothing to defend, so with the women's game the way it is, a casual stroll to the US Open title (and some smaller tournaments if she can be bothered) will shoot her back up to the top.

It's quite worrying for the game in general to not have some big US players. None of the youngsters coming through look like anything special. Their top men (Roddick, Fish, Querrey, Isner) are all one-dimensional too.

At least Raonic looks like a genuinely good prospect for Canada! Shame he got injured here.
With respect to the financial side of things, you might be right. However, when considering it on a purely sporting level, this is actually a good thing. It shows that the world is doing well in tennis rather than just two or three countries. At the moment, there are 7 different countries represented in the quarter-finals. If Nadal wins his match, there will be two Spaniards whereas del Potro would make it 8 different countries.

Yes, I meant in terms of the sport's profile on the world stage. Having superstars like Sampras, Agassi, and Serena helps the game.

The men's game is perhaps the best ever in terms of depth of quality, so there's no problem on that front.

I would have to disagree: there is no way that Sampras or Agassi ever had the world exposure that Federer and Nadal have had.
