Actually. Shit quality vid, but was searching for my favourite Merson goal.

It came v Sheffield Wednesday in 91/92.

It was a drab 1-1 draw until the last 20 minutes.

Then we went beserk with goals from Super Kev, Limpar  , Merson, Super Kev again, Wrighty and Limpar  again.

7-1

Still probably one of my favourite games.

Enjoy....if you can see it <_<

Two Premier League footballers have been charged after cars were damaged in Newcastle city centre.

Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole, 23, and striker Nicklas Bendtner, 24, each face five charges of criminal damage.

Northumbria Police said it was in relation to an incident in Stowell Street on 6 December.

The pair, both from Ponteland, will appear before magistrates in Newcastle on 27 February.

Lee Cattermole, originally from Stockton, started his career with Middlesbrough.

He joined Sunderland on a £6m transfer from Wigan Athletic in 2009.

Nicklas Bendtner, a Danish international, is currently on loan at the club from Arsenal.

Nicklas Bendtner given driving ban for speeding at 103mph

Sunderland footballer Nicklas Bendtner has been banned from driving for 56 days and fined £660 after he was caught speeding in his Porsche.

The 23-year-old striker was clocked at 103mph on the Woolsington bypass, near Newcastle Airport, in December.

Newcastle magistrates were told he was on his way to the airport and was late for a flight.

The player, who is on loan from Arsenal, was not in court. He had earlier admitted speeding.

The Danish international striker was recorded doing 103.6mph for a distance of 0.137 miles by a police Vascar system installed in a patrol car.

ARSENAL fans pay £2,500 for posh season tickets but do not bother going to matches.

Incredibly, 400 supporters fork out the massive sum for 'club level' tickets at the Emirates but watch just one match a season — or not at all.

Shareholder Pete Wood said: "Corporate tickets cost between £2,500 and £4,000. But of the 8,000 corporates, five per cent are not going to matches. This shows watching Arsenal is not an attractive proposition any more."

5% of the 8000 corporates not going appears to be a conservative estimate. Over time it'd be around 5% but if you look at the number not going for a particular game, I think you'd have a much higher %. Hardly surprising though - it'd be near enough the same even if we was topping the table. The evidence of a lack of interest has to be based on the proportion of the 'regular' 50k not going.

It's how it used to be. When Bob Wilson went off injured in an FA Cup Semi-Final against Stoke in the 1970s, there was only one sub allowed. John Radford, our centre forward, went in goal for the rest of the match and pulled off a decent save, having scored at the other end earlier in the match.

I can’t buy the Champions League myth as much as I used to. We’re told the additional revenue is our lifeblood. Yet we don’t ever seem to plough that revenue into the team. We’re told we need that carrot to attract star players. Yet we don’t shop for established names anyway

And again and again and again. I expect this to be a representative post from 2019 with Wenger half way through his next contract... :ilt:

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is continuously working on his game and admits he is currently looking to provide more of a threat in the final third.

The 18-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Southampton last summer, has figured prominently in Arsene Wenger's plans over recent weeks, having initially been eased into the fold.

He has already netted his first goals for the Gunners in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Carling Cup and has been touted as a contender for a place in England's Euro 2012 squad.

Rapid progress may have been made, but Oxlade-Chamberlain is refusing to get caught up in the hype.

He is aware that he is far from the finished article and appreciates that he must add an end product to his game if he is to be a top Premier League performer for many years to come.

"I scored a few goals at Southampton, but it's a big area of an attacker's game and it's one I've always wanted to work on particularly," Oxlade-Chamberlain told the Official Arsenal Magazine.

"When I was younger I scored quite a lot but that dropped off as I got older and went into midfield. It's something I always look to bring to my game - and if I can't score then at least I can set somebody up."

Confidence

Oxlade-Chamberlain concedes that he has already exceeded all expectations this season, but insists he will not allow himself to get complacent.

"To be honest, when I arrived in August the main thing was just to get comfortable with my surroundings and gain in confidence," he added.

"Hopefully I already had the raw materials. I've learned a lot here and developed my game, but the main thing has been belief in myself. When you play in a few games and realise that maybe you can cope in the Premier League you do take confidence from it.

"That's what I've done - I do thrive on pressure and being put into these situations, and I'm looking to push on now."

Confirmed- footballers live in a different galaxy.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic admits he was all set to join Arsenal - many years ago - until manager Arsene Wenger only offered him a trial.
The Milan striker was just a teenager when he met Wenger to discuss a move to north London.
Now 30, the Swede says he was even handed a Gunners' shirt with his name on it but was taken aback when he was told he would have to participate in a trial.
Talking about his meeting with Wenger in 2000, Ibrahimovic told The Sun: "Arsene gave me the famous red and white jersey. The number nine shirt with Ibrahimovic was on it and I was so pleased I even posed for a picture wearing it.
"It was a fantastic moment for me. Arsenal had a great team then and here was an Arsenal shirt made just for me.
"So then I waited for him to convince me that I should join Arsenal. But he didn't even try."He never actually made me a serious offer, it was more, 'I want to see how good you are, what kind of player you are. Have a trial'.
"I couldn't believe it. I was like 'No way, Zlatan doesn't do auditions'. I thought 'You either know me or you don't and if you don't know me you can't really
want me'."
Ibrahimovic went to Ajax instead of the Premier League, and he followed that by spells at Juventus, Inter, Barcelona and now Milan.
On Tuesday, Ibrahimovic will turn out for Milan in their Champions League game at the Emirates against Arsenal who lost the first leg in Italy 4-0 when the well-travelled forward netted from the penalty spot.

Wojciech Szczesny admits he was left 'heartbroken' by Arsenal's UEFA Champions League exit but feels the manner of their departure fires a warning to their Premier League rivals. The Gunners came close to overthrowing a 4-0 first-leg deficit against AC Milan (http://topics.skysports.com/AC+Milan/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night but fell just short as the second leg finished 3-0 to the hosts.
Arsenal (http://topics.skysports.com/arsenal/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif goalkeeper Szczesny (http://topics.skysports.com/Wojciech+Szczesny/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif says his side will take confidence from the battling exit and believes their top-four league rivals should be wary.

"We sent a message across to the teams in the Premier League that when we are at our very best we can beat anyone in the country and in Europe," the Poland international told Sky Sports.
"So it will give us a lot of confidence. Yes we are heartbroken because it wasn't enough and we got knocked out of the Champions League but there are a lot of positives."
Recent results have left Arsenal fourth in the Premier League table and four points adrift of fierce local rivals Tottenham.
Szczesny admits he will not be happy with anything less than a third-place finish and hopes Arsenal's neighbours slip out of the race for Champions League football altogether.
"I wouldn't settle now for fourth place," he added. "We're four points behind the other North London club and hopefully we can challenge them.
"Hopefully Chelsea (http://topics.skysports.com/chelsea/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif can challenge them for a fourth spot as well. I'd be really pleased to see Tottenham in the Europa League next season."
Gunners defender Thomas Vermaelen (http://topics.skysports.com/Thomas+Vermaelen/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif believes his side have every chance of overtaking Spurs if they carry the momentum from Tuesday's win into their league campaign.

"If you play the way we played in the first half, if you're consistent like that, then I'm not worried, we will be in the top four," he said.
"If you play the way we played today you can beat every team. It's just a case of being consistent in the next following games and if we do that we will be in the top four and maybe the top three."
Right-back Bacary Sagna is also keen for the Gunners to turn their attention back to the league, with a visit of Newcastle (http://topics.skysports.com/newcastle/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif looming next Monday evening.
He said: "Now we have the Premier League. We will receive Newcastle at home and that will be a massive game for us. We are getting closer and closer to Tottenham."

JOEY Barton tweeted his way into trouble again yesterday — calling another player a mong.

The QPR midfielder, 29, posted that Arsenal's Emmanuel Frimpong was "thick" after watching him on Soccer AM.

Pulled up over it, he then defiantly branded the 20-year-old — out with a knee injury after clashing with Barton on the pitch — "Frimpmong".

Barton's use of the word, slang for people with Down's Syndrome and which Ricky Gervais has copped flak for using, angered Twitter users.

LadTheGooner posted: "I hope @Joey7Barton saying 'Frimpmong' was a typo. Disgusting if not."

Last month, Barton was accused of tweeting remarks that could have prejudiced Chelsea star John Terry's race trial.

Andrey Arshavin wants to return to Arsenal after his loan spell with Zenit St Petersburg ends.

The 30-year-old joined his former club on loan until the end of the season after enduring the wrath of the Arsenal boo boys following a run of poor form.

But Arshavin, who joined the north London club in 2009, is keen to extend his stay at the Emirates.

'Of course, yes,' Arshavin said when asked if he would return to the Gunners in the summer.

'Every player does not want to sit on the bench or the stands and watch the action from there,' he told RT Sports.

'When I was at Arsenal, I always wanted to play and not sit on the sidelines watching everything unfold.

'I'm used to living in London and while I am on loan at Zenit my family has stayed in London, because my children go to school there and everybody feels comfortable there.

South Korea has allowed the Arsenal striker Park Chu-young to delay his compulsory military service for 10 years.

South Korea's Military Manpower Administration said on Friday that Park's 10-year residency visa from Monaco means he can put off his service until 2022.

Park joined Monaco in 2009 and played for the French club for two seasons before joining the Gunners at the start of the season. The 26-year-old was expected to begin his service either this year or next year.

All South Korean men are required to serve two to three years in the military.

Jenkinson joy, living the dream

Carl Jenkinson is living the dream. Not just any old dream either, our dream. The one where we sign for the club we love, pull on the famous red and white, and play for the Arsenal.Being a footballer at the top level would be enough for some people, but the former Charlton youngster is now playing for the team he supports and says that although there was some worry the deal would fall through, when it happened there was a moment between him and his father, Steve, that they had both longed for.

Speaking in the latest edition of the Arsenal Magazine, he explains.

Carl: Well you hear whispers, but I didn’t believe it all until I had actually put pen to paper at the training ground. Until it was actually done, I wouldn’t accept it. It was actually a big worry until that point, because I had made my mind up that Arsenal was the only club I wanted to join, so had it fallen through it would have been tough for me.

Steve: I’m a silly old man maybe, but I always had a dream that one day my son would sign for Arsenal, and we would come out of the manager’s office and hug and do a little dance outside the office. And that’s exactly what we did.

Carl: Well we had a hug – I think you were the only one who danced!

Carl: It was such an exciting time for us, and a couple of weeks after I signed my dad threw me a surprise party. I had no idea at all, not a clue what was going on, but my friends led me round the side of my house and there were all my family with Arsenal scarves, Arsenal flags – my dad put his CD of Arsenal songs on!

It was brilliant, seeing all my family like that so happy. I don’t tell this to all the lads though, I don’t know what they would think of me. When Robin saw those photos of my old bedroom he said “have you got a picture of me on your wall?” so I will probably take a lot of stick for this!”

The step-up in quality has been considerable and being thrown into a team that was really struggling was not, perhaps, the ideal introduction to life at the club. He then picked up an injury around the same time as Bacary Sagna broke his leg, meaning his chance to understudy was gone, but Jenkinson is looking at the positives.

“Well the injury was a big setback for me because it took away an opportunity for me, as I could have had a run of games then,” he said. “But if somebody had said that I would have played 12 games by this time, I would have been happy with that.

“I think my performances have been up and down if I’m honest, but I believe I have improved significantly the more I have played. I’ve developed a lot this season and looking at it realistically, it was always going to take some time to adjust from League one to the Premier League.”

Steve

That's why it's great to have players like Wilshere and Jenkinson and Arsenal supporters in the squad. I've never seen one disinterested performance from either of them. Bad performances? Maybe. But it's great to see one of us on the pitch. It's something that has been severely lacking at the club.

what a waste of a groundsman

Coney
19-04-2012, 12:21 PM
Not sure how much is the groundsman. When the Emirates pitch was laid, there was a netting mesh built into the top grass layer to prevent it ripping up, so the groundsman gets a head start. (Plus the design of the stadium - those strange curves up and down at the back of the upper stands and the roof shape - is to make sure there is good airflow over the pitch. A lot of fancy looking stadiums are not well designed from an airflow point of view so you get a lot of stagnant air, which has a bad effect on the grass.

Arsenal Stadium design.
