Completely fair enough. He'll get his chance very soon, and he's within touching distance from the starting line-up. He'll definitely get a good number of games this season and it's up to him to take his chance.

Doesn't he pay any attention to our injury record? He'll probably have to play 30-40 games this season, then he'll be moaning about being tired.

Pep Guardiola has been invited to do a presentation for international coaches and football specialists at the Emirates Stadium in December.

Guardiola is planning on taking a break from his apparent sabbatical from football to be one of a number of high profile figures sharing their knowledge of the game.

The Spaniard is currently enjoying time off in America - where he met Sir Alex Ferguson at the US Open - but is expected to give the talk in London, providing it fits in with his plans.

The former Barcelona boss has been linked to joining Premier League clubs Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United since leaving Barcelona last summer.

The meeting between himself and Ferguson at Flushing Meadows promoted rumours that the 41-year-old was going to replace the United boss at Old Trafford, something the English club swiftly denied.

Guardiola, who only signed one-year deals at Barcelona, is on the hit list of all Europe’s top clubs and will be heavily pursued once he announces his return to the game, expected for the start of next season.

When he left Barcelona, he explained how tiring winning 13 trophies, including two Champions League titles and three La Liga titles had been.

'The reason is simple: four years is enough. I'm drained and I need to fill up, the demand has been very high and a manager must be strong,' said the Catalan.

'Time has taken its toll - I rise each day and don't feel the same.

'I am going with the understanding that I have done my duty, you can only recover by resting and getting away from everything.'

Arsenal are rolling in cash
By DAN KING, Sport Uncovered
Published: 24th September 2012
29
ARSENAL are expected to release figures any day now which will show Arsene Wenger is sitting on at least £50MILLION of cash.

Despite the team’s decent start, some fans want to know why he has not invested more money in the squad.

Accounts for last season will confirm Arsenal again made a profit in the transfer market, thanks to the sales of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

The books will say the Gunners had well over £100m in the bank at the year end of May 31, 2012. But that will include most of their season ticket revenue for 2012-13, a big chunk of which will go to cover current operating costs.

Financially savvy Gooners will look also at the net debt and expect to calculate Wenger has £50m or more stashed away – excluding the expected £25m windfall from the Queensland Road development.

They will also study the size of the pay package to Ivan Gazidis. In 2009-10, he earned £938,000 basic, a £669,000 bonus and other benefits. In 2010-1, it was £1,026,000 and £601,000.

After another trophyless season and the exits of Robin van Persie and Alex Song, fans may ask at October’s AGM whether the chief executive should have to deliver more than top-four finishes and transfer profits to earn his bonus.

i was talking hypothetically. if wenger wanted he could easily go on a spending spree. there aren't any major restrictions such as the queensland development project and our debt has gradually reduced. there is cash to spend unlike the first couple of years.

we're in the green right now, when we renegotiate our sponsorship deals in 2014 we'll be fucking loaded. which is when stan will sell up.

Yeah. Tbf, nobody can say we're a badly run business. The issue amongst fans is why we don't spend.

I guess your answer is looking at the current squad...which for me, all of a sudden seems really good

She Wore A Yellow Ribbon
27-09-2012, 03:01 PM
not massive chunks because early repayment of debt has penalties (believe it or not). and i think we've got a low steady interest rate so there's not much point either.

but a self-sustainable model is all about spending what you make. in the first couple of years we weren't making much so couldn't spend much, but now we are so we can (or stan can pocket!).

Arsenal have linked up with US Olympic sprinter Michael Johnson in order to improve their players' physical performance.

The Gunners were visited by Johnson at their London Colney training base as they prepare for their Champions League tie against Olympiakos at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist runs a running performance school in Texas, which various Arsenal players have attended in order to improve their running technique, and Arsene Wenger believes his players can benefit from the 45-year-old's expertise.

He told The Daily Mirror: "He has no role at the club. He is a runner. We sometimes co-operate with his school.

"For example, if a player needs to work on some aspects of his physical side, we send them there for preparation. It is a fantastic school, but he is not directly involved with our team.

"This summer it has been Ignasi Miquel and a few youth players. Has he come back faster? Not fast enough to win a gold medal!

"But you have two ways to run quickly - I will teach you now. First, is to do as quickly as possible your movement, but you gain that very quickly, you will not improve that at the age of 18.

"The second is that, every time you make your movement, to have more power on your push. That is quite logical. If I can run at the same pace but can gain power every time I push, I gain one inch more. I will be quicker if I can repeat the frequency of my movement.

"He [Miquel] gained some power, but it is always very difficult to measure if you are 18 or 19 - even if you do nothing, you become a man and you look more muscular.

"You get an injection of testosterone between 18 and 21, 22, sometimes up to 23. Then you are a real man. Some get it at 19, some at 20-21."

The 33-year-old played under the Guardiola has been linked with a host of top European sides following his departure from Barcelona at the end of last season, while Goal.com exclusively revealed in September that Sir Alex Ferguson has earmarked the 41-year-old as one of two candidates to succeed him at Manchester United, with the other potential appointment being Jose Mourinho (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2012/09/26/3403240/sir-alex-ferguson-finalising-manchester-united-succession).

But Marquez claims that the ex-Barca man would be a better replacement for Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium and expects that the Spaniard's next managerial role will be in the Premier League.

"Guardiola will soon return to the game. I think he'll go to England. He'd be perfect for Arsenal," Marquez told Cadena SER. Spanish coach at Camp Nou for two seasons before his move to MLS side New York Red Bulls in August 2010.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to sign a lucrative deal to become the new poster boy for O2.

The Arsenal forward's advisers have entered into formal negotiations with officials from the telecommunications giant over a seven-figure per-year agreement for the youngster to become the new face of their promotional campaigns.

It is understood the deal will run the length of Chamberlain's current Gunners deal that expires in 2016.

Chamberlain's profile has sky-rocketed in recent months after a tremendous start to his Gunners career which culminated in a shock call-up to England's Euro 2012 squad.

And O2 chiefs have pinpointed Chamberlain as the sportsman they want to lead their British-based promotions.

Chamberlain already has similar deals with Nike, EA Sports and Disney.

O2 recently ended a long-term partnership with Arsenal, meaning the firm can put together a more personalised campaign for Chamberlain.

The 19-year-old is also negotiating an improved contract with the Gunners, which the club hope he will conclude soon.

Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone has denied he is concerned over his long-term future at the club.

Reports over the weekend suggested Mannone was unhappy over the lack of contract talks at Arsenal with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.

Mannone, who started the season as third-choice goalkeeper, has started five of Arsenal's seven Premier League games this season due to injuries to Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianksi.

The Italian insists he is not thinking about his contract situation and is focusing only on keeping hold of the No.1 shirt."Neither myself nor anyone from my family or friends have spoken about any deal," Mannone told the club's official website. "At the moment I am really happy and just focusing on training and playing well.

"I am trying to be the No.1 for this club and win trophies. That is my only concern and I would like to make that clear.

"The boss has given me the chance. I have to keep going and prove myself in every single game. This is my best time at Arsenal so I would be crazy to not take the chance to put up a fight for my place."

Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone believes that the setbacks in his career have helped him develop as a player, and has set his sights on a bright future in the game, stating his intention to move to Italy.

After originally breaking into the Arsenal team in 2009, Mannone has had to wait until this season for further action at the club, and was forced to move on loan to Hull City to gain first-team experience.

The Italian keeper believes his battles for a first-team place at both Atalanta and Arsenal have helped focus his mind, and Mannone has a clear idea of his ideal career path.

In fact, the shot-stopper has plans beyond North London and the Premier League, believing that he would one day like to play for AC Milan, a club he has supported since childhood.

Mannone also indicated a firm desire to establish himself as the first choice for the Italy national side.

"I did my first audition [trial] at Arsenal in 2004," Mannone told Corriere della Sera.

"I asked Atalanta what their plans were but they did not want to focus on me.

"I have to thank them, otherwise I would not be at Arsenal.

"In 2009 Almunia was injured and I played ten games, but then Wenger decided to give me a break.

"He thought that I was not ready, but now I understand.Ambition

"Now my goal is to take the starting spot," Mannone continued."I want to be Arsenal's number one.

"In the future I'd return to Italy and play in Serie A, perhaps with AC Milan, my favourite team.

"Besides, I hope to reach the national call."

Mannone has made eleven Premier League appearances and played seven times for the Italy Under 21 team.

Arsène Wenger will hope for some good news in a difficult week when Arsenal host Schalke in the Champions League tonight. After losing at Norwich last Saturday, his side are 10 points off the lead in the Premier League and at tomorrow's Annual General Meeting their seven-year trophy drought is bound to be an issue.

Given the importance of the league, Wenger said yesterday he was very keen to beat Schalke to allow him to rotate his team "as quickly as possible". The manager admitted that he now has a "very limited" margin of error in the Premier League after their mixed start. Their position relative to Chelsea may also increase the pressure at the AGM. While Wenger insisted that the club was "in a very strong position", he acknowledged that there would be some discontent at 11.30am tomorrow.

"Who doesn't share the frustration, of course?" Wenger said, denying that there would be any intolerance of dissenters. "I understand every frustration. I am not a racist against frustration."

Why does Hillwood even turn up? He's like that 80 year old drunk in the pub who mutters snarky, incoherent abuse at others knowing full well nobody will punch him because he'll probably die from it. Actually it's nothing like that but he's such a dick.

Wenger the sell-out makes a defeatist speech (compared to previous years) apparently.

Dennis Bendtner

The AGM is merely a platform for PHW to troll the fuck out of the fans. Like a fine WUM, he has got better with age.

PHW may be the biggest cockroach to ever crawl out from the skirting boards, but the fact he's so completely out of touch does lead him to tell the truth on occasion. Reminds me of a general election - thanks for the vote now fuck off for 5 years.

This is a club 100% absorbed by money. The fact they happily and excitedly dismiss two more years of mediocrity and downhill slide because they'll be able to compete financially (translation, their pay off will be secured) by 2014 demonstrates their lack of understanding what's actually happening on the pitch and in the dressing room. There won't be a single decent player here in two years if things keep going this way and certainly nobody of any stature will want to come here, even when the promised extra cash is on the table. It's take more than a couple of improved sponsorship deals to dig the club out of this shit. The only silver lining is things are going so well for Kroenke. If he can keep his head down for a couple more years it's all gravy.
