Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Wenger's WUMing game goes into another dimension on his 65th birthday. He won't be satisfied until we've all killed ourselves in existential doubt before his contract's up.

Stunning win .

In all seriousness, we were terrible bar Sanchez again. Although Cazorla, Sanchez and Ramsey should have scored before they did. And then they conspired to miss chances to kill us off.

At least our 3-5 minute period of effective football came at the right moment tonight.

Coyle in.

Same old rubbish from us, passing without any real intent or conviction and barely constructing anything of note. Shows the level we are at when this is even happening against a nothing side who easily managed to rattle us with their vibrant play.

No idea how we managed to win it, but thankfully we did. Not that it will lead to any sort of improvement, but still..

Yay.

daylight robbery of the highest order. Wenger is a buffoon. He has players like Podolski but wont play to his strengths. Only puts him on when we need a Hail Mary goal. Plays Wilshere and Ramsey together even if they have rubber bands holding their joints together. Another flukey result which he will hail as an example of spirit and quality and determination. I'm so pissed off we won. Now we will make the next round and get our arses handed to us again by the first decent team we meet

Just need to beat Anderlecht at home and Dortmund to dispatch of Galatasaray again.

FFS Arsenal.

That was an incredibly close shave. I think Wenger has officially decided to take a sabbatical on our defence. It seems that he feels that there is no need for it. We laugh at Manchester United- but at the minute can we really say that our situation is any better than theirs at the back? The mentality of these players, the way they play, the little-or-no enthusiasm- there seems to be a fundamental, systemic problem here.

A word on Alexis Sachez. A few have beaten me to it but what a consummate professional we have here. Doesn't let his head drop. Just gets on with it and does his job. Top man. Ozil could learn a thing or two from him.

I just hope Sanchez' winning mentality doesn't slowly dissipate a la William Gallas a short few months after he'd joined.

Good thing he doesn't seem like one to let his head drop, because he's adapted very well to the sharp drop in quality he was used to at Barca. Hopefully his teammates don't bring him down to their murky depths.

Was watching Liverpool getting taught a lesson on how to play football, but was switiching over and every so often. Our game looked so dead in comparision to the Liverpool game. Thought we were going to be the first team that Anderlecht beats in the history in the champions league. Wenger got his get out of jail card out today big style. He lives another day with this result as I think had we have lost the pressure would have been intense.

That's where Merson let's himself down. This goes beyond spending money and having a world class DM. The players looked disorganised and uninterested for the majority of the game. Lazy performances all round and failing to do the basics.

Flew home yesterday. I gamely tried to stay up but the time difference is 7 hours so at half time it was getting towards what felt like 4am so I gave up.

Amusing result but worrying at the same time as Anderlecht really should be the whipping boys of this group and we made very hard work of it.

Maybe it'll produce some feelgood factor in the dressing room and we'll go on a bit of a run, we've got some winnable games coming up.

The quality of the football we are playing is just awful. Anderlecht had won 2 games in their last 33 CL outings and are one of the worst teams in the competetion yet they embarassed us at times and should have gone 2 or 3 up. They opened us with ease towards the end and completely shat on our defence.

The manager is again just idiotic with his insistance on playing this shit passing for the sake of it game and at no point during our games does he try change things or orders his payers to fix up. Apart from Alexis, no other player turned up. Ramsey, Jack, Gibbs, Santi, Welbeck were all shite and didnt look like they wanted to be out there.

I dont think we have a chance of topping the group, although a win next game for us and Dortmund guarantees qualification. If we play against Bayern or Real then i really do fear for us.

Alexis is the only one who deserves any credit, how long before he gets utterly fed up of playing with inferior players and for a deluded manager?

Wenger, stop playing Monreal at centre back because he just isn't one. Stop playing Ramsey, Wilshere and Flamini/Arteta in centre mid together, they can't. And stop waiting until the 70th minute to make your pre-ordained substitutions. Grow some testicles and change things earlier, when every one can see it isn't working. You got lucky this time, better teams would have punished us.

Yeah it was dire and has been all season.

I agree, we probably won't top the group, I reckon at best we will draw at home to Dortmund. I would say there are 8-10 teams better than us in CL now so the best we can honestly hope for is a last 16 exit, this team isn't capable of going any further.

Pure comedy.

Forget about a winnable run of fixtures.
Playing like this, every team we'll face will fancy their chances.

And if the players are starting to lose faith our season could be in proper trouble.

Overall, this performance was like taking a shit in a sock, pulling the sock over your head, but at the very end, finding a quid in the sock.

While I totally agree our performances were below par and very disappointing , it is very naive to think we should have easily won this game . In England , there is a tendency of thinking that good teams or good players are only those known to the English public . Belgium have many quality players more than England team at the moment . Look at the likes of Eden Hasard , Kompany , Dembele , Fellaini , Courtois ,Lukaku , Vermaelen ,Benteke , Origi , Vertonghen ,
There are more unknown talents in Belgium ,Adna Januzaj , Merteins , De Bruyne , Mignolet , Defour , all came from Belgium .
Back in the days , Anderlecht was one of the top teams in Europe . A few years ago we even saw how Standard de Liege , another team from Belgium , beat Liverpool in Anfield in champions league .
Underestimating a rival can be deadly . And I believe we nearly suffered from that . Our players were thinking it would be an easy evening for them and almost got punished .

For those of you who are worried that getting rid of Wenger could result in a worse situation, could any manager be providing us with worse football at the moment. Not strong enough in many positions on the pitch, not strong enough in squad depth bearing in mind our ridiculous injury record, the most predictable style of play anywhere in football & awful decision making on set -up & substitutions - this is our team under Wenger. People joke about the likes of Moyes & Coyle but could they actually make us play any worse at the moment.

2 points. Yes Belgium do have a number of very good players but they're not at Anderlecht. They play in a league that quality wise is on par with our Div1. They are a very young, inexperienced team that haven't won a Champions league game for ages.
We are Arsenal, we have 60,000 fans paying to watch us every home game with many millions in our bank, we have a manager who's been here for years & has all the time & money required to compete in all competitions, we have a team of supposed internationals - so why the hell shouldn't we expect to beat Anderlecht.
Secondly, forgot about the winning for the moment. Its the actual football we're playing that is awful. I have to admit, its coming to a time now where I was actually disappointed that we won last night. We didn't deserve it & these late goals to either draw or win games are simply papering over the cracks & allowing Wenger to continue to do nothing differently.

Fair enough . But I didn't say we shouldn't have won the game . It is true most of their talents don't play for Anderlecht ATM . But It also true most of their players are unknown to us . That does not make them less talented .
Before Lukaku moved to England , he was at Anderlecht and was always deadly . You play against such a player with a wrong attitude ,you surely get what you deserve : eggs on your face .

If we were playing well this season and you could easily excuse a scrappy result like this against a pub team, but as we haven't it's all a bit downbeat and it feeds into the awful narrative that's been building so far about Wenger tactical flaws still being present despite spending money.

Yes well done on getting three points, but the performance and lack of any cutting edge up front (apart from Alexis) and poor defence still remain.

Alexis must be thinking, what the hell did I sign up for now. There's a world of difference between him and everyone else in the team as things stand.

No one to blame apart from Wenger though.

Oh well, just hope this inspires us to go on a 49 unbeaten style run. We have always been a confidence team under Wenger so who knows?
