If it wasn't for the fact that Ancelotti has publicly said he'd go on a year long hiatus if he leaves Madrid, I wouldn't have been that surprised. West Ham have quite a bit of money these days and I don't think Ancelotti cares that much about the status about a club when accepting a job (see PSG).

These pundits know shit about shit, they have their favourites and they buy into the bullshit from other pundits rather than what they see on a football pitch. Kos has been the best defender this season - by a margin. Anyone who bothers to watch football rather than read the media bullshit can see that.

http://www.squawka.com/comparison-matrix#premier_league/2014/2015/laurent_koscielny/126/126/113/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/john_terry/126/126/72/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/gary_cahill/126/126/451/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/vincent_kompany/126/126/543/0/p#total_score/defence_score/interceptions/blocks/clearances/defensive_errors/errors_leading_to_goal#90

I suspect Cazorla tops out the midfield too, haven't run the numbers but leaving the stats aside and thinking about Silva's season, or Fabregas', Cazorla surely emerges as the most influential for his team?

I'm betting Clyne is superior across the board to Inanovich.

Aguero would struggle playing with Kane and Costa, he'd be wasted.

Matic is horribly overrated, a decent and influential player but nowhere near the dominant force the pundits pretend.

But the one who really stands out is Kos. Our record when he has played, versus when he hasn't played is hugely revealing. He's had a massive influence on our season, as great an influence as any other player in the league. How he doesn't get a mention while everyone is banging on about Terry is either an indication of how biased these pundits are or else it reveals them as frauds.

Alexis was very, very good. Kos was our player of the season and possibly THE player of the season.

Niall_Quinn
25-05-2015, 11:04 AM
My gut instinct (from watching football rather than reading about it) turns out to be more than correct. I hadn't guessed Cazorla was quite so comfortably ahead of the others.

http://www.squawka.com/comparison-matrix#premier_league/2014/2015/santiago_cazorla/126/126/311/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/david_silva/126/126/308/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/cesc_fŕbregas/126/126/306/0/p#total_score#total

Our manager has some great players at his disposal. What a shame it's all so badly wasted.

Niall_Quinn
25-05-2015, 11:09 AM
Here's another one that shows how pundit myth prevails over evidence. Bear in mind, Alexis wasn't even our main striker.

http://www.squawka.com/comparison-matrix#premier_league/2014/2015/alexis_sánchez/126/126/1581/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/diego_costa/126/126/1550/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/falcao/126/126/1561/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/wayne_rooney/126/126/73/0/p#total_score#total

After 38 games with the season done and dusted these stats take on significance.

Niall_Quinn
25-05-2015, 11:14 AM
The Ospina myth.

http://www.squawka.com/comparison-matrix#premier_league/2014/2015/david_de_gea/126/126/590/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/thibaut_courtois/126/126/1558/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/david_ospina/126/126/1264/0/p#total_score#total

The media started putting the word around that Arsenal can't win anything with the current keeper, who has made very few errors. Maybe he's not a big name but he's nowhere near the liability the pundits would have you believe.

Niall_Quinn
25-05-2015, 11:21 AM
Any "team of the season" that doesn't have the following three in it is simply not reflecting the facts:

Kos - defender of the season - easily
Cazorla - possibly the most complete player in the league
Alexis - a force of nature (and he doesn't get sent off or leave his boot in or thrive on winding up the opponent)

Niall_Quinn
25-05-2015, 11:31 AM
Damn! Alexis' numbers are worth looking at in detail:

http://www.squawka.com/comparison-matrix#premier_league/2014/2015/alexis_sánchez/126/126/1581/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/diego_costa/126/126/1550/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/falcao/126/126/1561/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/wayne_rooney/126/126/73/0/p#total_score/attack_score/defence_score/pass_completion/key_passes/assists/chances_created/total_shots/shot_accuracy/tackles_won/successful_take_ons/fouls_suffered/fouls_committed/red_cards/yellow_cards/cards_for_diving#total

Astonishing. If this guy had been playing for the chavs or Utd the media would have arranged a parade by now.

Niall_Quinn
25-05-2015, 11:35 AM
They got Hazard right though, even better numbers than Alexis.

On the other hand, Hazard had zero cards for diving. So these numbers don't reflect the terrible bias played out over 38 games by the corrupt match officials.

Hazard - no cards for diving! Look no further if you want to confirm the bias on the pitch as well as in the media.

Kos hasn't been that good this season. Has been poor when Mertesacker wasn't around. Cazorla has been solid but not much more.

Would say no-one has had a particularly good full season (apart from Sanchez), but some key players have had good half seasons - Giroud, Ozil, Bellerin

Niall_Quinn
25-05-2015, 12:17 PM
Well on that basis Terry and Cahill must have been absolutely dire, so Kos still makes the team.

Cazorla has, without fuss, slotted into another one of Wenger's crackpot formations and has dominated the unfamiliar role - except maybe on a couple of occasions where he came up against clog dancers that booted him up in the air.

Pundits aren't looking for performances and consistency, they are looking for marketing material and hype. That's why the goal of the season competition last night on MOTD was a collection of players swinging boots and hoping for the best (apart from Zamora who meant it)

As much as it hates me to say it but I can understand Big Man and even Ivanonvic's selection to an extent but Cahill?? He's been dodgy as hell, was dropped for Zouma at times and made critical mistakes (like against PSG). Such lazy punditery.

Fonte and even Kos deserves it ahead of him.

Matic ... meh

The Coutinho myth still lives on. Proof that spaffing in a few long rangers can make people view you as world class. Ozil, Fabregas, Santi, Silva (though poor by his own standards) all better IMO.
