Expect that to continue.

if we play like we did on tuesday we will lose, because i don't believe even Hull would pass up the chances to score that Edinson Cavani missed.

I think tomorrow is a good day to rest the Coqzorla partnership (especially as Coquelin played like a slag on tuesday)

Although i think Elneny would be a good physical presence against Chelsea, would be happy with a central midfield triangle of Cazorla, Xhaka and Ozil....you know the one that really looked like it worked against Watford.

Wenger has confirmed that Petr Cech will return in goal against Hull, after sitting out in the Champions League to give David Ospina some game time, but Aaron Ramsey remains injured. Theo Walcott is a maybe at the moment.

He's also been talking about summer signing Granit Xhaka, saying that he sees the 23-year-old as a "box-to-box player".

"Xhaka is adapting to the pace of the English game, but he will play games," Wenger said.

"I think he will have a huge impact."

“Every week he’s stronger and better. I think he will play a big part this season.

“He has the stature, the power, the strength.

“For many players it took some time to get into the team, it happens.”

He adds: “I prefer him as a box-to-box player. He has the engine to have an impact with his runs.”

It may explain why he's not starting games. Box to box - is that his style?

I take it back.

“Look, In one or two occasions [he struggled]. I think he has adapted quite well. His physical strength and power allows him to pretend to play straight away.

“He is highly focused. Elneny as well, both of them are focused and top top quality.”

Wenger doesn't think he's ready.

I had him more down as a DLP in the Xabi Alonso mould, I swear Wenger is obsessed with converting any player he can get his hands on.

Moreover, if Xhaka is box to box then I'm even more confused about our Midfield options, when Xhaka partnered with Caz are we essentially playing with two box to box midfielders?

I don't buy that he's not ready for the Prem either, he has to play to get used to it and he's been with us in pre-season training, you'd think he would have some clue by now.

Yeah it does sound a bit iffy, the fact he didn't start against PSG thickens the plot.

From the little I have seen of him he looks to have played well but obviously Wenger thinks otherwise.

I still wonder if we have to pay more every time we play him minutes like we did with Ox. £200,000 I think it was per 20 mins, which is why he came on at 75 mins as a sub. When he came on at 70 mins and there was a chunk of added time, we had to pay Southampton. I can't see the point of those clauses, either you buy the player or you don't, could have ruined Ox's game as he didn't get enough playing time. Now he doesn't now whether he's coming or going half the time.

Xhaka comes from Bundesliga which is the most similar league to the PL in terms of quality and physicality, plus he was known for being pretty tough there.

Ridicolous for Wenger to think he's not ready especially after splashing 35 million on him.

Anyway got a bad feeling this is going to be one of those annoying draws, 1 - 1 or 2 - 2. We've used up our quota of luck for the season the past two games so expect a dodgy offside goal for them.

Had him down as more of an Alonso /Arteta as well. Not sure why we have bought him if trying to convert him onto something else. But Wenger knows. Maybe there is more to his game.

It means we're playing without a DM. May explain why Coquelin is driving forward so much. Maybe Wenger expects the same from Xhaka and is just setting things up. No idea why. He did the same with Song in his final season and now he's at it again.

I really don't get it. That can't be true because he threw in Holding for a massive debut game. Perez also played straight away. There has to be something he doesn't like about their game to not play them. Ozil and Sanchez went straight in and played all the time once making their debut.

Yeah, as Herb has said, he's had a slow start but looked to be getting better. It's a strange one because he's had a preseason with us and the only way for him to adjust is to get games. The guy's done nothing in the PL and nothing in the CL for how many years now? Millions spent. A whole stream of players through one door and out another and we're still nowhere near a settled team that can challenge for significant honours. It's perfectly valid for this guy to be questioned after all this time. And more than valid for the fans to do the questioning as in the end it's their cash that keeps Wenger high on the hog while he fails to deliver season after season after season. Nobody is saying an average fan could do his job, but plenty are saying that he can't do his job either and the long trail of evidence unequivocally bears that out.

Most Arsenal fans if not all , including me, are frustrated when we lose a game or do not win a major trophy . But it would be totally unfair not to recognize that Arsène is doing a fair job according to the money the club gives him .
I am not against a change of we have ready made replacement .

I think it's totally unreasonable to suggest he's doing even a fair job, particularly in light of the money he's received over several seasons now. If anything, now we have started to spend, we look further away from being competitive. And that's all that most fans are asking. They are not demanding we win the title or reach a succession of CL finals. But this club should be at least competing and we simply aren't doing that. And it's not surprising because the manger makes mistake after mistake and then he repeats those mistakes.

How long have we been waiting to see a top striker at the club again? How long did it take for him to sign a top keeper? He's left the spine of the team weak despite the fact he's had plenty of money of later. This can no longer be excused or compensated for by looking back to 2006, 10 years ago. The failure to challenge has gone on too long now and this manager is way beyond his sell by date. It's only the fact he makes a lot of money for some very greedy non-football people that keeps him here.

On a football level, forget about it. At any other club he'd have been out the door seasons ago - just as CL winners and title winners have been cast aside as the top clubs strive to remain at the top. It used to be we had pride in not rotating our manager every 3 years. But now we have found out the hard way that persisting with this man has been deeply damaging. The ambition at this club has all but gone. We are specialists in mediocrity, the bare minimum, masters of second best and this manager and some of the fans boast about it. It's scandalous. A blight on the club. Of course many fans are going to be pissed by this. Of course they realise there are plenty of alternatives out there that could get this club back on a footballing track.

It's such a shame he's hovered like a bad stench so far beyond the time he could have left with a bit of dignity. Now he's just the guy who can't win, no matter what. No money, plenty of money, strong challenges from the rich teams, total collapse by the rich teams, it doesn't matter. Wenger can't get the better of any of them regardless of the conditions and circumstances. He's yesterday's man and the record proves it. I just hope he's got a shred of self respect left and doesn't try to stretch this out for another 3 years.

It seems we are now taking everything for granted . Tottenham and Liverpool always spend more money than Arsenal and they can not give to their fans what he is doing to Arsenal FC .
While I agree he should have done more but ignoring completely what he has done and is doing is also unreasonable in my point of view .

What do the spuds and the scousers have to do with this? This is like Wenger, yes we lost again but so did all those other teams. I, and many others I suspect, accept there can only be one winner in a title race, one winner in the CL. What would be unreasonable would be to say, you didn't win, you are useless. But that's not what I am saying and that's not what other fans are saying. I'm saying, you had 10 years. You did nothing. You failed to compete. You failed to use the money that has been given to you and when you did use it you mostly spent it like a fool, and on the rare occasions when you spent it wisely you then took the asset and deployed it in a counterproductive manner. I'm saying, you had years to sign the players we need. And here we are, several hundred millions of pounds later, and you haven't signed the players we need.

We can make every excuse possible for this man, and some do. But in the end, he had a job to do and he didn't do it (or maybe he did, in which case he's a despicable human being too). He's a football manager at a supposedly elite team and in 10 years we've done nothing. While our rivals have all had their moments in the sun, Wenger has a perfect record of achieving nothing and I challenge anyone to refute that by listing a single achievement of merit in the last 10 years. Just one. Judged by the standards of our alleged rivals. And if our rivals are now the spuds and the scousers then I rest my case.

It's a poor excuse to claim money is the barrier when you tot up the amount we have spent recently and especially when you look at the efforts of Leicester last season. It's sad to note that the main body of Arsenal fans weren't prepared to expose Wenger as thoroughly as Leicester City did last season. It would be in our interests to expose this man. Instead, the hapless sheep sang his name when it was suggested we make a mild, almost apologetic protest. It's quite pathetic.

10 years. I give him no credit at all because he deserves none. And I'm going on his record, not sentiment and certainly not on the endeavours of equally incompetent fools like Brendan Rodgers or whatever idiot the spuds had in charge over the last decade. Arsenal is my interest and the basis on which I make all judgement.

I'm not sure we will, in fact part of me hopes its not. We are stuck with a hopelessly stubborn manager he needs to realise that the players he is picking is causing us problems. If we picked a side anywhere near like this against Chelsea we would get badly beaten.

I thought it was harsh because he was so close.
I never like red cards given when a penalty is. The team awarded the pen has a chance to score (In theory, Alexis... <_<) so why punish them again by having to play the whole rest of the game a man down?

Niall_Quinn
17-09-2016, 02:55 PM
More interesting half than usual, but mainly because we've gone to plan B - pub mode. We've been awful, but not as bad as Hull who are simply dire. Ozil well below his usual standards again. Alexis really isn't a striker. We've blown gold plated chances, but that's totally normal. The defence is all over the place, again normal. The midfield is one paced but at least they are playing towards the opposition goal today. Walnut - fucking hell, what a joke of a player. Which leaves Iwobi. Not bad. He seems to want to get on with it and win, which is novel.

WUMger having a laugh with the team selection as usual. I suppose he'll drag Iwobi off as an encore.

Such an Arsenal thing to do to be 2-0 against ten men and still find yourself under immense pressure.

Ref has lost the plot there.

Certainly not a red, Cech went for the ball and then that horrendous cheat ran into him. So I suppose a pen.

AND THIS IS WHY WE KEEP OUR FOOT ON THE GAS FOR 90 WENGER YOU MORON!

Walcott is a professional footballer, right?
He didn't win some competition to play for us?

Oh piss. Cech

It was the Assistant Ref who gave it.

Can't actually disagree with it either.

WUMger goes negative and we concede a pelanty.

5-0 game is now 2-1.

I don't think that's linked to Cech being an idiot tbf

If that was a pen, how come Cech wasn't sent off, he was stopping a goal scoring opportunity. City 4 nil up against 11 men Bournemouth and Jack, we can't score a hatful against a p poor side with ten men.

No reds for genuine attempts to win the ball. Which it was. Just terribly timed.

No, it was a pen. Cech was late. But that doesn't excuse the horrible cheat who did everything in his power to put on a show. Yellow was correct too. Cech definitely going for the ball.

Question though. WTF is up with our, what's it called,.. defence?
