View Full Version : Is Wenger Kicking Our Arse?

Few posts (when the forum is working). No real debate, said it all before. General dwindling interest from almost all people here, it seems to me, in terms of the club, the results, news and football in general. A general cynicism blanketing every aspect of a game. Some people are saying this is the worst state they've ever seen the club in, which might sound weird considering we're near the top of the table and in an FA Cup semi - but most fans are aware of the issues affecting this club and probably get where these dire appraisals are coming from. I know a few people still go to the games but plenty more are saying this is the last season, no more renewals.

Is this is then? Has this board and has this manager finally ground us down to the point where we're going to bow out and leave them to it? They've nicked our Arse and now they are kicking our arses out.

This has coincided with football as an industry reaching new lows. Hype, silly money for average players, boring tactics, tournaments with long traditions devalued by the money men, word of the first £100million (and possibly £200million) transfer deal doing the rounds. Corruption at the highest level of the game, the World Cup sold off to the highest bidders even when they have no connection to the sport whatsoever, the media and the pundits sucking it all up for every crumb that falls off the table. They'd tell you everything is better than ever, because it's worth it for them to lie so blatantly. Ridiculous "journalists" and a PR whipped FA are excitedly telling us the biggest problem we face is England fans singing anti-German songs.

It's in a really bad state, like most things that gets touched by commercialism. Do they even want fans any more? The likes of Neville have utter contempt for us.

Is it worth fighting back on this or is it gone? For us at Arsenal, wouldn't it be too sickening to walk away and watch from a distance as the cronies award themselves bumper pay days and new contracts as reward for abject failure? Shouldn't somebody do something about these bastards and if it's not going to be the fans then who?

Is it time to start organising with rival fans?

Football fans are far too tribal to expect any solidarity even on existential issues such as standing areas and ticket prices. We cant change the world. We may however be able to change Arsenal if we can get ourselves united in purpose. My fear however is that we have not yet reached the nadir where we have to be for many to see the light. Wenger staying will inexorably drag us down to the pits where fan revulsion will eventually reach its peak. We wil not make top 4 this season and next season we will regress even further with Alexis leaving and no capable replacement coming in.

Other fans are revelling is our despair just as we did when United went into meltdown after SAF left and Chelsea last season. Its patently obvious that Wenger cant hold his own in a straight fight within the top 6. He needs 1 or 2 to have a season calamity. Luckily they have always obliged. This is the 1st season in 10 years that all have been up and running. Next season will be worse, Maybe Everton will get a good set of transfers in, they certainly have a better manager than ours.

Abandon all hope ye that exist here.

Re football generally - yes I think we are seeing a situation where corporatisation and money is slowly killing the goose that laid the golden egg. I think that this is turning off 'traditional' fans that remember the game as something far more authentic and free spirited. And let's face it - on the pitch itself the game has become less exciting and predictable, as factors such as risk; player development and experimentation are winnowed out of football because of financial expediency.

Re Arsenal - the way things have gone means that hope has turned to disenchantment then despair and finally indifference. That's certainly how I feel now with the sheer predictability of Wenger's tenure. This regime is like the footballing equivalent of a bell jar, sucking the life out of the fans - many of whom I suspect now lack the motivation to try to change a situation where they have never been further from the minds of those running our club.

That was the plan all along. Wait it out until everyone is too exhausted to care anymore.

Grade A trolling.
