I think the formation has worked better than people will admit today. No one formation was going to give us instantly the Arsenal of old though.

I think it's ambitious to pretend we've had a formation. It's been pure learn as you go.

It's the shape you can see when we're defending rather than attacking which is often the case with attacking teams.

23-04-2017, 04:07 PM
It's the mega fouler Fernando on to replace the mega fouler Farnadniho. Aguero off for Delph :haha: :haha:

I don't rate Wenger as a manager at all which must mean Pep has to be one of the most overrated managers in the football. Wenger exposed the fraud.

Hilarious. Imagine being beaten by a team that has been Wengered.
Good win, unexpected to be honest, expected us to get beaten, Guardiola really has been shown up, glad we never got the overrated Spaniard.
Think Chelsea will do us in the final though, different level to City and much better manager.

Much better manager? Their respective trophy haul would suggest otherwise. Don't remember Conte doing anything with Juventus in Europe. Don't get me wrong Conte is doing well for himself and has made a good Chelsea side that much better but he can be tactically found out just as much as Guardiola.
Remind me of how far Guardiolas replacement at Bayern got in the champions league this season?

I'd like to have seen Pep or Morinho's record if they had to build a stadium with the funds available leaving f-all for buying players unless you can sell to make up the money. Would they have kept CL football at their clubs? They have not had to build on low funding like Wenger had to. If Wenger had been given a billion to spend instead of having to build a stadium, I think his record would be even better.

Conte is a better manager. Pep didn't do anything with Bayern in the Champs League. As for his Barca days, when Luis Enrique has La Liga titles and a CL medal with that Barca team, it takes the shine of Pep's achievement with that super team.

Pundits getting it all wrong as usual.
We were SHIT in the first half.
We were SHIT in the second half. But the gypos were even more shit. That was the difference.
Had NOTHING to do with these HYPE managers - who are both SHIT. Had everything to do with a few players on our team who managed to get the better of the mercenaries on their team.

Zidane's first senior level management role and he's already won the Champions League. Luis Enrique has won it all with Barca but zilch before them. Pep and Mourinho are over-hyped. It puts things in perspective when nobody managers are taking over and winning.

There's MUCH more to Marketing winning CLs than the manager. The manager is more of a PR bloke at clubs like that. The rest is fixed.

I've got zero respect for Pep's credentials after being taken to the cleaners by Wenger.
I've got zero respect for the statement you've just made. Whilst I disagree with you a lot, you at least are capable of constructing sensible well thought out arguments.
Wenger is a has been who doesn't have it at the top level anymore, but all this stuff about him being a Fraud and totally useless are to be honest emotional arguments made by fans (including me I'll admit) who have grown tired of the shitshow we have witnessed.
It doesn't change my mind that I want him to go but he got it right today, how much of that was him and how much of it was the players deciding finally to show a little bit of pride is unknown. Is Guardiola somewhat overrated and similar to Wenger in that he is stubborn and only plays one way? Yes of course but the guy still won six league titles and two European cups to try and make out that's nothing or that it means nothing because of the sides he has managed that's just bizarre.
Guardiola has had a poor first season with City and this probably tops it off, but I wouldn't say City played badly today and arguably were unlucky due to having a goal disallowed which shouldn't have been.
Wenger although he's applying this logic falsely and wrongly to himself is quite right when he says people are very quick to make judgements in the short term.

NO! NO HE REALLY REALLY DIDN'T GET IT RIGHT TODAY.
IUf you think he did then all you have done is buy into the very conscious PR campaign that is underway right now. Wenger is 100% incompetent and he PROVED it today. We could have beaten these overhyped and overpaid mercenaries at a canter. The ONLY thing that cause us problems was the incompetent manager we have.

I didn't say he wasn't. But in fairness most managers are. Most managers are only as good as their current season.
Conte is being lauded as a genius for what he's achieved with Chelsea but hardly had nothing to spend and it's fair to say Allegri has surpassed what he achieved with Juventus. I think Conte has done well don't get me wrong, but I think views on managers tend to be ephemeral.
I could be wrong but I still think Guardiola will come good with City. And I just thought it was a bit daft to completely rubbish Guardiola based on losing to Wenger.

If you lose to Wenger you are a MASSIVE mug. Or you just don't have even basic finances to build a team of even average players. Wenger is the worst manager in football - by a long, long way. If you have similar resources to him and end up losing to him then that's utterly humiliating. And I BET most managers know that by now. Even worse, if you have a billion quid to spend and then go and lose to a shmuck like Wenger, Jesus, that's awful.

I'm not writing off Pep's chances with Man City and it's much more than just losing to Wenger, as explained. When Luis Enrique has won the treble with Barca in his debut season and Zidane wins the CL in his debut season, it takes the shine off Pep's trophy haul with Barca and especially when you see him struggling in this league.

You're smarter than silly statements like that. Wenger is a massive dinosaur on that we are agreed, he has long since past his sell by date on that we are agreed but worst manager in football doesn't even deserve debating.

He's got a pretty good record for the worst manager in football

Not saying he was always the worst. But he is now. Yesterday disguises nothing. The team won despite him.

No, No, No I get completely what you're saying, but it's still too ridiculous for debate

Look, it's very simple.
Wenger is responsible for results. Unless they're good in which case it's nothing to do with him.
Got it? Good.

Seriously yeah i'm beginning to see that
Part of the reason i want him gone is because, where was that tactical change three/four months ago when we really needed it.....he's always been behind the curve and slow to adapt. And i remember results like this in the past and face palming and thinking "why couldn't you get them playing like that before hand?"
Now of course additional to that it's one game so it's certainly no indication that we've turned a corner, we'd need four points at least from the next two games to have the suggestion of that (and even then it would be slamming the stable door after the horse has bolted).
But yeah I think people don't want to acknowledge Wenger did good on Sunday because it will harm the narrative
It's understandable because people want change, and the club seem to have made it clear re-building Rome will require it to be burnt to the ground first.

NQ’s comments can definitely be taken with a pinch of salt but it’s premature to jump out of the window with the praise for Wenger. We’ve changed formation but tactically, that game doesn’t tell me much about our new direction or even if there is one. A better defensive performance. That’s good to see but we still had that moment when we conceded and committed too many men forward and got hit on the counter. Against City, it’s expected that we see less of the ball and will be forced to defend deep but when up against teams that will let us have the ball, I see us still getting sucker punched.
Also, besides the defence, nobody really stepped up to the plate besides the usual suspects. Ramsey, Xhaka, Ozil and Giroud were still average. Wenger still chose to play Giroud and not Alexis or even Walcott knowing that they’d be open to the counter attack…..I’m not convinced we’ve worked out the team selection issue. As for motivation, it’s a semi final against Man City in the only comp we have a chance of winning. I’m holding back on the praise because this one game doesn’t tell me enough. Heck, we’ve beaten Pep’s team twice this season, narrowly lost 2-1 and drew 2-2.

It's all quite silly to me.
Over time more and more people have moved to the "Wenger Out" point of view.
But those who were there a few years ago haven't stayed where they were. It's not enough for them now to want Wenger out, they always have to get more and more extreme in their views.
Now he's "the worst manager in football", good results are nothing to do with him (although bad results are), they backdate their views and claim he's been failing for 10 years, despite being quite happy for him to sign a new contract a few years ago. And some have even questioned the glory days under him - he inherited a good defence, he got lucky, whatever.
#WengerOut, but let's keep a bit of perspective. I don't think anyone has been overboard in praise for Wenger after Sunday's result.

Nothing you've said is unreasonable, we are still very far from fixed in any way shape or form.
But generally speaking if he's responsible for when things go badly, he must equally be responsible when things go well not so bad
We are of course no where near to turning a corner.....but at the same time I think all of us expected us to lose on Sunday and the fact that we didn't was down to no small element of game management (although yes just one game).

I actually didn't expect us to lose on Sunday, didn't expect us to win either, it always seemed quite hard to call - it was two not that good sides who can't defend well.
I do expect us to lose in the Final.
Don't thine NLD is a given loss either, I don't think we'll win but we could get a point.

Yeah, that's bullshit and I don't agree with that point.
