Is he injured yet?

Only mentally.

Seems like he could be a good fit for the wing back role if we are going forward with 3 at the back next season.

Seems like this guy was really in demand so it's good work if we've signed him.

He's definitely the right player for us. I can say so confidently having never seen him play.

I'm not convinced. Saw him on YouTube but it was recorded in 480p and for me that's not sufficient quality.

Can't wait till we iraddicate his winning mentality

Nver heard of him but he's a freebie so makes perfect sense that we'd snap him up, confirmation Wenger is staying if you ever needed it, why would we sign anyone if a new manager was coming in before he arrived?

Heard he's quite good

Can't wait for his inevitable downturn in form and transition into a pub player.

Hopefully that's the end of Gibbs.

I can't take much more of Gibbs as a wingback.

Probably means Gibbs is off.

Know nothing about him except the fact he's free, another Wenger opportunist buy, who knows if he'll be any good, plenty of examples that did ok and plenty that were hopeless. Let's hope he's not another Xhaka.

Keep an open mind for now, he's bound to be an upgrade on Gibbs if nothing else. I'm much more interested in what forward(s) we buy than anything else.

I know him from the Bundesliga very well. There, he has been performing consistently well over the last year. He is a very aggresive player, who, however, sometimes exaggerates it with the hardness in two-combat. I think he is certainly a reinforcement for the team and he will be able to adapt quickly to the higher pace in the Premier Leage.

I'll reserve judgment, people who had seen Xhaka thought he was good too and he's been rubbish so we'll see.

I've never seen him play but he comes with quite a good reputation. Looking forward to seeing him play.

I have two questions - Is he solid defensively and can he cross?

If he was our prime target regardless of money then fine.....but if it was massively swayed by price then I'm dubious about the approach.

Nothing has changed. It's because he was available on a free.

I'm in two minds.....as GP stated he was in the Bundesliga team of the year and it is a league with Bayern and Dortmund so he's obviously a player of some repute ....in ze Deutschland at least. I like the idea of a touch left full back Lauren style too.

Go and kick the teeth out of any mug opposition who even look at Sanchez the wrong way. I know.....bless me for speaking as if Sanchez will remain.

He sounds like a quality player but if he weren't free, we wouldn't have moved for him.

He looks heavy set and he comes from a people that survived attempted genocide, so I reckon he can deal ok with the physicality of the premier league.

No question for me that we needed a left back

Niall_Quinn

As far as I can tell he's a semi-talented, mindless thug who disgraces the game of football whenever he steps foot on a pitch.

About fucking time!

He has to be better than Gibbs. In all seriousness, what is his injury record like? Any niggles that recur?

His injury record is excellent. 56% of opponents he faces end up injured, some severely.

He is defensively very solid, but can also help in the offensive. Schalke had often set off on the offensive this season, and it was often Sead Kolasinac who made offensive flanking. He was also a great motivator in the team. I'm very curious about whether he can play his style in England as well.

Niall_Quinn

It won't come down to the player, it will be down to Wenger. If he silently dismisses the bullshit he has been consumed with for over a decade and gets back to a sane and rationale approach to what is, let's face it, a glorified pub league then the players will stand up and be counted or they'll fall. But if he decides this new signing will be ideal for playing pretty triangles in non-offensive positions then it doesn't really matter who we have signed.

Can score too.

Shame he didn't cost £50m as we can't win the transfer war now.

He could turn out to be our best signing since Alexis.

Niall_Quinn

Still hard to judge him defensively as we don't really have a defence. But I like the way he runs towards the opponent's goal and, even though it's weird and unprecedented, I like the way he runs into the box when the ball goes in there.

Apparently this deal was done in January, so doesn't count towards our transfer activity this summer.
