You'd think they would qualify now.
Also, Zidane won't be there for much longer. Reduced to just chucking the ball in the box every few minutes.

All this shit is above our heads. Kroenke and his clown brigade have put nights like these beyond us. Time to dream like an Everton or Stoke fan dreams because that's where our mega rich and highly paid leaders have taken us.
Cunts.
Poch vs Wenger? LOL
People laughing at Klopp? Fuck off! We have Wenger. There's nothing more hysterical than that.

Now it's t'other way around.

They are just a better team than us now and the gap will widen if things continue as is. I fought it up until last season but it's clear as day now that they are a better team than us. They even had around 3 or 4 players out yet still went toe to toe with Real.
Niall_Quinn
18-10-2017, 10:35 AM
We had a huge advantage over the poxy spuds and Wenger squandered it all and is now working his unique magic to widen the gap. Dithering cunt.
Spurs did really well against the best team in Europe, oh how the mighty have fallen, we're nowhere now and watching our greatest rivals historically getting the results we should be getting.
Tell you what though, whereas when we were in it in recent times we knew it would be over come the last 16, Spurs fans probably fell confident they can progress, takes the boring repetitive stuff out of the competition for fans of the club, had no interest in the CL when we were in it and don't miss it because we pretty much know where it all ends before we've even started.
Amazing how a team can be so predictably limited, even the like of Leicester did better and weren't as predictable as we were, quite a skill to guarantee you'll get knocked out at the last 16 every single season you qualify. Wenger is proud of his achievements though, so nothing else really matters.

"We've been nowhere near Barca or Real in the last few seasons. Particularly with Tottenham last night it looks like the gap is closing," added Neville.
"It's a very good start. I don't think we're going overboard. If we were scraping through games I'd say 'yes' [we're going overboard]. But we're showing strength and quality.
"It's long overdue. With the strength we've got in the competition we have to be looking to get at least two teams into the semis.
"It's been quality in the final third, the football and the finishing. We've raised the bar.
"I think the fear factor is coming back. We're taking control of games and I think the whole of Europe are starting to think English teams are powerful again."

A fraction? We’re falling quicker than Usain Bolt and we have a manager sitting there smugly going about his work. Shit like this should wake Wenger up, it won’t though. “Look well you see I told you English teams are improving, look well I believe that is important to protect the principles of your club, we live in a world where teams build there squads, you will be surprised, look you know I don’t know but I believe it could be or might not be, I don’t know”

These teams are finally catching up to Arsenal. Cruising through the group stages and occasionally beating some big-name teams along the way. Does that mean Arsenal have been winning the Premature Group Stage Championship for the last 47 years Wenger has been here?
Does this also cement Manchester United as the best team in the galaxy as they just beat world champions Tottenham at the weekend? I mean if we're jumping to over-emotional and senseless conclusions this early in the season, that's the biggest one so far.
Actually, Huddersfield may dispute that particular title.

Spuds are a very decent team now and are here to stay IMO. They have arguably the most balanced first XI in the Prem and now have a very deep squad, they genuinely have quality and depth in every position with the exception of Centre forward, though Llorente isn't a bad backup per say.
Like NQ has stated, they have just gone about their work building the squad bit by bit, it's absolutely sickening because they have done it with virtually no money. It's only really been this summer that they have started to splurge a bit and make no mistake, if they remain a top 3/CL team then they will buy every season to improve. We are the absolute opposite of them now and it sickens me.

You dont necessarily have to be the best team in the CL to win it. They are a solid team and dont lose by more than a goal so they will always have a chance in the knockouts. PSG, Barcelona and even Real Madrid (if they can fix up) will be the favourites.

Let's not get carried away. That business about them being the Harry Kane team. True to an extent. If he gets injured they become quite an ordinary team. But a team that is improving on all fronts nonetheless and if we don't change the way we are doing things we'll just keep getting further behind.

I don’t know. Madrid weren’t just poor defensively, they were poor going forward
How much of that was to do them with having a shit game and how much was due to Spurs who knows
You can’t stop the media getting carried away, they even did it with us a long, long time ago
But Madrid lost to Wolfsburg in Germany 2-0 in 2016 in the quarter finals before going on to win the thing so as a one off result it’s not indicative of anything.
However I think with the possible exception of PSG (who are also absolute chokers) there is no head and shoulders above contender for the competition. Barca have no midfield, Juve are very beatable, Bayern have an ageing side
Therefore ruling City or even Spurs out as challengers would be precipitous

I'm not so sure people are. Spurs have improved season upon season, they are now genuine PL title contenders, I don't like it and it took me a while to accept it but that is the reality of the situation.
They have an owner and Manager who won't accept second best, they want to improve and whilst many including myself laughed at them a couple of seasons back they have stuck to their guns and improved. So I think they are.
I never said Alderweireld is the best defender in the league.
I don’t listen to the radio so I can’t comment on that but more often than not you’ll get people on those kind of shows with extreme opinions because it makes for a better listen. I’d take it with a pinch of salt, I barely read or listen to anything the media have to say anymore, you know the reaction will be knee-jerk because that's what sells. I know plenty of ordinary Spurs fans who appreciate how well they’re doing but know there’s a good chance they will “Spurs it up”.
For me this only highlights how far we have fallen 15 years ago we were dreaming about CL glory, playing great football and had real quality players, always away ahead of Spurs, we were Londons best side, it looked like there was no stopping us.
How the tables have turned, we're now the 3rd best side in London, realise the CL is a pipedream and even if we qualified it would jut mean a humbling at the hands of a top side in the last 16, lack winners, have to put up with the most boring and repetitive football club in the world and face losing our 2 best players next summer for nothing.
This club gives nothing back to it's fans, it takes them for mugs, all we get is broken promises, sales talk and lies whilst watching the people in the club getting richer for doing next to nothing, worst thing is there seems to be no hope of anything changing anytime soon, we've got an owner who says he's in it for the long haul and only cares about money, a board that get pay rises for doing nothing and a manager who prioritises finances over on the pitch success.
Definitely the worst time being an Arsenal fan I've experienced, it really is embarrassing, an empty stadium may well be the only thing that can change this, we all know that will never happen though.

I don't think it's quite as simple as picking either our situation or theirs. They have a good manager, young exciting team, good philosophy and a feel good factor, and we have none of that. But we've won trophies. I'm not here to defend our board and manager because I hate them but 3 trophies in 4 seasons is at least something to show for. Until spurs have something tangible to show for it, it means nothing.
I'd pick their manager ahead of ours because I think with our squad he'd win trophies, and I'm talking more than FA cups. Probably a league. It's going to take something special to take spurs to the next level and break their spursy mentality , and by that I mean win trophies. I don't think Harry Kane on his own can do that. But if you put him in charge of our squad with the likes of Sanchez and Lacazette he'd do much much better than Wenger has. He'd also get much more out of ozil imo.

The danger for them is if they don't start winning trophies an paying their players market rate then people like Kane will have their heads turned.
They do seem to have finally got their act together though, upsettingly.
It's not all about winning to be honest, though obviously that is the goal. Excitement, hope, entertainment all come into it, seeing your team progress would be a nice feeling rather than the feeling that we're just happy where we are.

It's a mixture. Spurs fans are enjoying themselves right now but if it's another trophyless season then it will be a disappointment. After the glory years we often played great football but we didn't win trophies and that became frustrating.
Similarly I wouldn't want to go back to seasons like 92/93 where sure, we won both Cups but there were only a few exciting games in the whole season, the rest was crazily dull. As I said elsewhere the average home attendance was 24,000 for good reason and dad and me nearly gave up our season tickets it was so bad.
Hope is the big thing I reckon, right now there is none in terms of the biggest prizes. The FA Cups have mitigated somewhat but it hasn't felt like the big successes a club with these resources should be delivering.

It’s a trajectory towards success, if Spurs finish 2nd again despite having to play at Wembley and get to the business end of the Champions league I think the fans won’t worry too much about silverware. Of course as you pointed out earlier it might not be the same for their players.
Either way, Money has made the league more of a closed shop for sure. But where Spurs have spent their time wisely, we haven’t and in fact have been enclosed in feeling like we owe Wenger gratitude in perpetuity.

Right now I'd rather have a Spurs season ticket than an Arsenal one.
The danger for them is if they don't start winning trophies an paying their players market rate then people like Kane will have their heads turned.
They do seem to have finally got their act together though, upsettingly.
Boy oh boy. That one's coming back to haunt you. I can think of a thousand contexts that can be misapplied to that one, right off the top of my head. I'll sit down and do a proper list on the weekend.
Warning. Fun ahead.

And I think this is what fans of other clubs and pundits who are scathing of the fans conveniently forget
Agreed, problem for us is nothing changes and we can predict our season before it's started, there's no pleasure in that.

Of course not and I agree. Sure we can comfort ourselves on the fact we have won the FA Cup a few times but unless we build upon it which we are not then it really holds no relevance.
I do agree with what you are saying in the rest of your post and it's why I'm deeply frustrated with our situation.

Pains me to say it but pound for pound they're far better value.
I just hope they end up trophyless and their best players leave and the status quo resumes.
