The 18th?

The International breaks are more boring than the football Arsenal plays. Inevitable result of allowing more teams into the tournaments than there are countries on the planet. Wrecking the season. Remember when football was on Saturday, every Saturday? There's way too much football now. No wonder the quality has taken a deep dive into the shitter.

Cripps

Agree

It's not even tournament football. It's friendlies

We only had an international break a few weeks ago, that should have been it until February.

You used to have myriad cup tie replays and two legged cup ties in the league cup so there’s always been plenty of fixtures

Far more pointless fixtures now of course

Plus I think of our most worthwhile Triumphs have been on non Saturdays

2004 and 1998 - league title won on Sunday afternoon
2002 - Won at Old Trafford to win title on Wednesday evening
1994 - Cup Winners Cup final win on a Wednesday evening
1991 - Our win against United after learning earlier that day we’d won the title courtesy of Liverpool’s slip up was a Monday
1989 - Win at Anfield on a Friday evening

Cup replays were great. But those are ditched now so we can play Romania's equivalent of John Smiths Brewery in some daft European pub league. And end of season stuff when the fixtures have banked up and need to be caught up, that's fine. But today it's a joke. We're only a third of the season gone and the whole thing has been stop start nonsense. I don't know how the hell FIFA get away with this bullshit. It's almost as scandalous as their corruption and child buggery antics.

Never underestimate Wenker's ability to claw things back from the oblivion.

Never underestimate Wenger and his teams inability to deal with any side that employs a high press

I don’t think we will lose, but neither will we win

So no victory and no catharsis of Wenger being called a cunt by half the ground

The worst of both worlds

Niall_Quinn

If we win it will be because the players find a way to do it on their own, despite Wenger. He'll expertly pick the wrong starting eleven and expertly play the wrong tactics, if he bothers with tactics at all. It wouldn't surprise me at all if, following the criticism he received after the last match and out of sheer bloody mindedness, he leaves Lacazette on the bench.

We have the players to compete with the spuds and give them a game (can you imagine thinking, let alone admitting to, this just a few years back) but the spuds have Wenger and that gives them a clear and probably decisive advantage going into this game.

Of course let's see who gets injured during the latest round of utterly pointless international friendlies.

Draw, probably.

They say "form goes out the window in a derby" but it doesn't. Neither does quality. When we were better than them we never lost to them, now they're better than us they never lose to us.
Generally a draw at home and a loss away is how these games go now.

They're not. None of this lot understand the history and significance of this fixture. Not sure a lot of the tourist fans who go these days do either.

EDIT: Think it was Dixon who said before his first NLD Adams had him up against the wall (stop it) and made it VERY clear to him what this fixture meant to the club and the fans. Who is doing that now? Showing that passion? No-one, that's who.

Let’s not pretend that Spurs players give a shit about the prestige and history of this fixture. Gak, Cars, Money, Whores and selfies is what matters to the modern footballer.

On the positive side the last time Dean refereed a North London Derby, it was the last time we won one in the league

But on the other positive side, anyone who is into betting can safely put their house on one of our players being sent off or a penalty being given against us.

We’ve faced duds at home so far, so I don’t think that record is relevant for this.

Draw is the most likely outcome but I don’t know why I have a feeling we could pub a win. This must be the first time in a generation that Spurs are favourites to beat us at home, I’d like to think they’ll fold under that expectation.

Are we good enough to take the game to them though? We’re too negative in the big games a lot of the time. No idea how Ramsey and Xhaka will deal with the pressing game, if they don’t get a grasp on that early then this could be a disaster.

tbf we're too negative in the small games as well also. If we lack little bit sharpness because of the 12:30 KO, our expected goals might drop. If we lack little bit cutting edge in final third then perhaps also the referee is a disgrace.

Alan sugar made a good point on the debate show with morgan. He said teams that sit deep and defend cause spurs problems because they find it difficult to break them down. If we go out and try to play them at their own game they'll pick us apart. So maybe sitting deep and defending could be a good thing.

We played that way at White Hart Lane the last three seasons, it requires us to have midfielders capable of winning the ball deep and breaking or at least making space with a run....we don’t.

We will usually end up defending deep anyway because we are too shit to deal with the high press.

Our chances of getting anything from the game are dependent on Spurs not taking their chances.

Yep it requires near perfect execution and no mistakes. Unfortunately that rarely happens at Arsenal. We have a defence that loves to make mistakes or give silly penalties away so the signs don't bode well. A win isn't anticipated but fingers crossed they've got a plan and can execute it.

A draw honestly wouldn't be such a bad result. My reasoning behind why I think we will lose is because not only do they have better players than us now, they are also extremely organised and very tactical, they really don't get beaten that much these days. He will set them up not to lose but to also counter attack us in numbers, they have the quality to really hurt us.

We definitely have the quality to hurt and beat them but I have a weird feeling Wenger is gonna screw us over with team selection and I can sense a very frustrating performance.

Make no mistake, I am absolutely desperate for us to beat them tomorrow, more so than ever, that lot really do need to be taken down a peg or two and I would truly love a "Chelsea" style FA Cup win performance by us tomorrow. I really hope they don't let us down.

Spuds aren't actually that good. In fact they are quite shit. But they are quite a bit better than the even bigger pile of shite in this league. This is the thing that is being missed. The standard is really, really low. Lower than I have ever seen. Some of these players are absolute pubbers. And when you have a shitty league like this the underdog can pub an upset. NLD, 12:30 KO, Mike Dean, two pub teams. Pure random.

It would take an act of idiocy from one of the managers to swing the balance, like picking a crazy team or playing ludicrous tactics that perfectly suit the opposition.

Doubt that could ever happen.

They are not that good but neither are we, a third of our team don't even look motivated or like they want to be here. I personally still believe at our best we are better than them, in fact i'd go as far as to say at our best only City are really better than us in the league.

The thing is we very rarely play to a high level and therein lies the problem.

Another issue is we are not tactical, that will be key tomorrow and if we haven't done our homework then i can't see us getting anything out of the game.

It angers me that the situation has come to this, where our reputation is on the line over a NLD, we simply cannot afford to lose tomorrow, it will be extremely damaging if we do.

Interesting thing is both teams have poor away record against top six rivals. Spurs like us only have one away win to their name in the past three years and like us it came away at Man City.

Our record since August 2014 Won 1 Drawn 7 Lost 10
Spurs record Won 1 Drawn 6 Lost 9

Spurs however are better at beating the top six sides at home. Beating us twice, United twice, City twice, Chelsea twice and Liverpool once in matches at WHL/Wembley. We have failed to beat them, beaten Chelsea, Liverpool and City only once and United twice in that time.

Harry Kane has scored six goals against us in the six games we have played Pochetinno’s Spurs in the league.

So a betting man would put this as a score draw with Kane to net for them

My head says we are the most terrible team at dealing with the high press, our players do not give a fuck about the fans anymore than the manager, the board or the owners do. And that after a 1-1 “moral victory” they swap shirts with the Spurs lot and everyone is left feeling completely indifferent.

My heart says this will be one of those games like at home to Chelsea where we just overwhelm them from the start, hit them with three goals early on and then contain them afterwards. Ramsey distracts Mike Dean by asking him if he prefers Rioja or Chianti whilst that filthy cunt Xhaka does a Kung fu tackle on Kane’s standing leg before blowing kisses at the incensed away crowd.

Was was the explanation for the 3-0 win over Chelsea?

I think it was something like, Conte hadn't decided on his best formation, or something.

McNamara That Ghost...

Beat Man City and Chelsea in the FA Cup, also.

Chelsea was focusing on the league they had won.

Man City were focusing on the other competitions they weren't in.

Would absolutely love to do them. The way sky have geared this up as if it's the final game of the season for the title. I know it's a big game but these 24 hour rolling sports channels really do hype things up uneccesarily.

Also every man and his dog seem to have had their say on the 'power shift'. Would love us to beat them today to shut each and every one of them up.

Come on the old dog

Show us you still have something in you

Me too, I hope we batter them like we did Chelsea last season. Giving that lot a good stuffing would keep them quiet for a bit and shut the media up. Don't let me down today Arsenal!
