We f*cking bossed them

Our midfield won the challenges, the battles, the war.

Our defence was superb. Koscielny and mustafi  had Kane in their pocket :pal:

Our attack was excellent. The trio were in sync and on point.

Pochetinno was supposed to turn up and wipe the floor with us. This did not go to plan for the status quo.

Very good result, not entirely surprised as we tend to get these results when Wenger is on the verge of extinction, this will buy him some more time (he doesn't deserve).

Spuds are a better side (not today obviously) but today we beat them, Man City will be rubbing their hands together as the title is just being handed to them at the moment. We're in our customary top 4 battle by the looks of it.

On the day great result, in the grand scheme of things, its just one of those one off wins we pull off sometimes at home. What we really need is results like this with a consistent run of good performances and wins.

Exactly.

If we could get results like this and put in good performance for a regular period these kind of wins would mean a whole lot more and I think we'd have a whole lot more happy fans, we use to of course and games like this really felt like huge occasions, when you're on a good run and winning you have a lot more to lose and it's a whole lot more satisfying to get the win.

Let's enjoy the moment, then we can analyse.

You're a joker to be honest, you're always the first one to accuse people of this and that if they post or don't post.

You have to have consistency in your argument, you can't just change you view just because once upon a time something happened. Yes it's a good result, it just doesn't have the huge amount of meaning it should have due to our general performances during the season.

Great win, but we'll probably stil be 12 points behind City come this evening but because of this result it will start getting overlooked, this is Wengers' speciality, one off results when things are pretty bad, he always manages to pull something out of the bag when the pressure is really builiding.

How about he does this more regularly rather than as one off results when we're struggling?

Poch has borrowed Wenger's sour grapes.

Sky are cunts of course. Poch doesn't want to talk about it.

So the Sky cunt drills into the specifics.

It's all about how unlucky the spuds were. Of course that theory would rely on you not watching the game.

We were the better team. Easily.

Neither goal was offside. End of.

Sky cunt is now asking if Poch has spoken to Dean. OBVIOUSLY he's a sore spud fan.

What a load of nonsense.

Totally different on NBC - both commentators saying we dominated the game and blew them away. I guess they must have watched it, unlike the Sky cunt.

Who said that?

I don't remember anyone saying that all, what I do remember is people saying that some will see this as a turning point, pressure will be much lower and the anti-Wenger sentiment will be reduced, anyone who doesn't see that would have to be thick, it's been seen numerous times before.

The positive sentiment from this game will carry on, just like it did after a few nothing wins and a draw against Chelsea (up until we lost again).

This is the usual one off win we pull off when Wenger is under pressure (we do it often enough), of course that's typical of many Arsenal fans over the years, overhyping things and thinking the tide has turned, they never seem to learn (just like the manager) that's why nothing ever changes.

In isolation as a one off football match, great result, good performance, it won't be seen that way at all though by many however, there lies the problem.

Ramsey and xhaka were excellent in the middle today. First to the challenges and xhaka in particular broke up play well. They played in sync and bossed the middle of the park.

Koscielny and mustafi didn't put a foot wrong. Handled Kane really well and had him in their pocket all game. They were commanding and decisive.

We could have won that game by 3 or 4 nil if we'd have kept Lacazette on or maybe brought on Theo. Towards the end we were catching them on the break but we just didn't have the speed to punish them. Overall, a solid performance. Mustafi was solid. Kos too. Ramsey and Xhaka really held it together. Ozil was defending hard as well and then still breaking forward to attack....a solid effort for a NLD.

Should we expect to see this sort of performance again? No. I'm putting this one down as our one off performance of the season like what we've seen against Man Utd and Chelsea in recent seasons. One of those rare games where we attack and defend well. Heck, at least they showed up for the NLD. I'll take it.

I understood the question and we could feasibly acquire both. Ancelloti stated previously he wanted the Tottenham job and Simone is well within our reach. If we able to prise Ramos in 2007 then there is no question we could get Simeone in 2017. Liverpool acquired Klopp despite their league placing and their financial postion so let’s not underplay ours. And let’s not pretend we are financial paupers as well, we made Ramos one of the highest paid managers in the game.

It was a good win and I'm sure the Arsenal fans enjoyed it but I still felt nothing.

I like watching Premier League football but I am neutral now almost, I don't like the Spuds but I try not to hate anyone, its very bad for you.

Wenger has still got to leave in the summer and NOTHING will change my opinion on that.

I will start feeling something when Wenger leaves, sometime around 2023 I think.

I wouldn't go that far. I didn't watch, looked up the score without too much expectation (thought we'd draw) and was pleasantly surprised by the win.
But I wasn't punching the air about it. The last time I actually properly celebrated a goal and win was the FA Cup Final, I'm far more emotionally detached from it all these days. I don't even think Wenger leaving will change that, the Groundhog Day at the club is a factor in this but it's not the only one, the way football has gone generally is making me less and less interested in it all. Oh good, that billionaire's team beat the other billionaire's team. Meh.

You have to have consistency in your argument, you can't just change you view just because once upon a time something happened.
Actually, no you don't. It's "consistency in your argument" which means we still have a flat earth society who stubbornly cling to their beliefs and ignore the tsunami of evidence which shows they are wrong. Taking a position and sticking to it come what may is "consistency" and it's something you show on here...consistently. But it's not something to be lauded. Being able to change one's opinion based on new evidence is the sign of a more rational mind and is what science is built on. It's something you consistently show you are unable to do.

Not that yesterday's result is going to change my opinion about Wenger, I don't think it will change anyone else's either - well, maybe a few people but as I said there's still a Flat Earth society, some people are beyond help. But it's a bit of feelgood factor which is much needed right now so I think most Gooners will enjoy the moment while not forgetting there are bigger problems. Pointing out the divorce statistics at a wedding makes you look like a dick, even though you might be right.

The "foul" by Ozil (where he didn't even touch the diving spud) that prevented a tap-in for what would have been the opening goal was completely ignored by the Biased Broadcasting Commune. When you compare that "foul" with the actual foul that gave us the free kick that led to what should have been our second goal, and then consider how much fuss the pundits made about it the bias becomes very clear. The MOTD coverage was a complete joke, so much so that even Martin Samuel noticed it and commented on how misleading it was. Even Martin Samuel. That's how biased the dirty communists at the BBC are. Not just in sport but with all so-called news. They are the very definition of fake news, worse even than CNN. Aye, the issue is a lot to do with mentality, more so than it being an ability issue because these players have shown us that they can comfortably compete against the other teams in this top 6 group.

The issue is having an idiot for a manager.

Who knew that if we started our best players in their best positions we stood a better chance of getting a decent performance? Pure coincidence the only other time we tried it this season we also put in a good performance.

Who could have guessed that if we upped the tempo and moved the ball forward we could put the opponent under pressure?

The performance against the spuds was little more that what the fans have been demanding all along. Team selection, formation, tactics, style of play. That's the team that should have been starting all season, bar injuries. Those are the tactics we should have been playing all season. And I'd go as far as to say - let Lacazette play for 90 mins FFS! That's one little improvement that could be made to what was already obvious, to what the fans could already see and to what Wenger seems to only be slowly figuring out.

There's a 99.9% chance this is another in our long list of false dawns and Wenger will be back to picking the wrong team, playing the wrong tactics and treating us all to tippy tappy when we play Burnley. And if we don't do well as a result the pundits may say it's a mentality issue with the players, but it will be more about mental issues with the manager.

As much as it was a very good win on Saturday, it was a one off and any side can pull off a win against a top side as a one off, this doesn't really prove we're good enough, what would is a consistent run and challenging for the big prizes.

The squad isn't good enough for a title challenge IMO, that's very much down to the manager of course with his weird decisions and tactics, but it's also down to personnel, this team doesn't have the ingredients to win titles if the other teams are in a good stable place, Man City are light years ahead right now, better team, better manager and better football, it's night and day.

Liverpool get one off wins against top sides and so far it hasn't proved they are title contenders at all. Alongside a new manager we need a few new players and a bit more fight/desire and leadership.

Let's not forget we were also at home, away from home results have been dreadful, in addition two of our best players on Saturday, Ozil and Sanchez will be gone next summer leaving us with a pretty weak looking team, in reality we're building towards nothing and not playing for anything this season either (other than the Europa) unless you count the Europa league which I'm not convinced we'll win.

Seeing two players who are leaving being our star performers really doesn't make you feel great, probably nice for their potential new clubs to be seeing what they'll be getting next summer for free though.

I disagree about the squad not being good enough.

I think we have a decent group of defenders, for once we have options up front

I think arguably wed only need to improve the midfield with a decent manager.

Yeah Sanchez and Ozil are probably going but add a Kondogbia to the outfit and push someone like Ramsey further forward and with a decent manager with a game plan we’d be challenging

Fair enough.

The defence is OK but too easily exposed, I'd bring a quality CB in and bring some decent full back competition, keeper is past it IMO so a new keeper would be needed, someone we can build a team with, Cech is ageing anyway.

Up front with Sanchez going, we're left with Lacazette with Giroud as a backup, the rest are quite frankly useless.

Midfield is pretty weak, we need someone tough in there, a DM and a winger or two to replace Ozil.

I'm not convinced Ramsey is the answer, he's had years and really only had one good season, good player when he plays but he's not really a worldie.

I think there's a lot of hype about our squad, but the holes are exposed on a regular basis which is surely more meaningful then when it all works in the odd game.

Once Sanchez and Ozil leave our attack is basically shot, so that's our attack, midfield, defence and keeper that need patchig up and that's not going to happen in a month of Sundays, it'll take quite a while to sort all that out with the amount we'd need to spend, compared to Man City our squad looks weak IMO (and that's who we're competing with at the end of the day)

If we'd spent the money we have more wisely we'd be a whole lot closer then, you don't have to spend the amount of money they have to compete, but you do have to spend wisely.

We've wasted millions on the wrong players and face losing 80 million worth of talent for nothing in the summer, the wages, the transfer fees etc add that to the money we could have added on top of that and we'd be well placed.

Of course now it's a different story, two star players walking away for free, an ageing past it keeper, an ageing defence (Monreal, Koscielny, Metersacker), a non existen midfield and soon a non existent attack reliant on one player.

It could have been very different, but lack of planning, poor allocation of funds and lack of spending have cost us dearly, we don't even have that many decent young players.

Did anybody see the extensive coverage of the big London derby in the Standard today?

No?

Me neither.

Letters is barely 40. We have at least 50 years to go.

I'm 43 and eat a LOT of cake so I wouldn't worry too much.
