Just goes to show - you need to dive if you want the pen. Defender pushes him in the back with both hands, Ramsey goes down (he felt the touch, there was contact, etc, etc, etc,) and the ref blows. A very routine pen in the PL so where's the fuss?

Didn't recognise it as a dive myself but whatever....

It wasn't a dive, by PL standards. It was an overreaction to a push - which, as the likes of Shearer will tell you, is professional. But it's a bonus if the pit fiends from Burnley have convinced themselves it was a dive. They are raging Mason only gave them 98% of the decisions and then let them down on the big one.

I am really surprised because with the incentive of going above the Spuds and Liverpool, I thought there was no way that Arsenal would win this game.

I saw bit of it and Burnley were very physical and Ramsey needed a bit of treatment after a body check he got.

Arsenal are in 4th now and that is the ceiling of their ambition, but can they hold on to 4th place ?

Wenger GTFO as always and forever.

I wonder if they'll show replays of Burnley getting a free-kick for Ramsey being smashed in the face.

Or Brady taking out Bellerin in the box.

Or Barnes diving all over the place.

MOTD highlights will consist of a few Burnley shots, their crowd hissing with their tongues out, Alexis scoring and Dyche crying for ten minutes.

The fun part is more the media reaction to us actually being involved in the race. Wenger is lucky but he has real competition now, he will do well to get us into the top 4 this season given the competition and is lack of tactical nous etc.

I don’t see why we can’t finish 4th, we’re flaky as hell but when all is said and done we’ll be in the mix. We missed out last season by a point, which was bound to happen at some point given how close we tend to sail to the margins.

Under normal circumstances I don’t give a fuck about the 4th place trophy but given the likelihood of losing Alexis and Ozil, we’re going to need CL football to help with the rebuilding process.

4th is most definitely a possibility so I won't completely rule us out. I don't think we can afford our annual collapse though because we have already lost 4 games so our annual collapse really needs to be avoided this season.

Me too re: 4th, if we finish outside the top 4 again this season then we'll be right in the shit with the rebuilding process which is going to be a big job anyway.

Wenger is lucky only in that he is working at a club where he is held to account in the same way he would be at other clubs.

At the end of the day we have no CL which everyone always hails as an advantage and yet we're laggin well behind, frankly it's a very poor show, most of this season has been a poor show, scraping wins, average performances, nothing about us is convincing, but 4th place is nothing to ride home about, it's only in football where 4th place is hailed as some sort of success, in most other sports it's failure.

Money talks as they say. I hope we don't get 4th, there's no point with Wenger in charge, it just means another humiliation in the CL. I really only want us to be in the CL when we can compete and with this guy in charge there's no hope, 20 years of failure at that level proves that.

I agree I prefer the last minute winners in the EL even if they're against a bunch of farmers compared to a thumping against bayern.

Completely had enough of CL and having 4000 goes at it and getting nowhere. Feels good to be recognised as top dogs in a european competition.

I get the reason for needing CL as ozil and Sanchez are leaving but we managed to attract Lacuntzette without CL. Money talks.

Me too, the predictability of our CL performance made it so boring, we knew from the day we were in it we wouldn't get anywhere and there's no pleasure in that. At least with the Europa league we're not sure where it will end, we may not win it but at least we won't be going out in the last 16 whilst getting humbled by a decent team in the last 16 every season.

Only any point in being in the CL if you're going to give it a go and have an ambition of winning it, our attitude stinks we only ever just made up the numbers (certainly in the last 10 years anyway).

I agree money talks, the bigger issue is Wenger, noone is going to believe this guy is going to win us anything or has any ambition, if you were a footballer would you rather sign for an ambitious young manager with ambitions some sort of plan to be successful, or some old dinosaur who thinks 4th place is what it's all about? With him in charge it's probably even more difficult to attract decent players.

I don’t think he’s lucky with individual results. I don’t think we deserved to beat Burnley on Sunday but if one of their players pushes one of ours in the box it’s not unreasonable to expect a penalty should be given.

I think he’s been lucky in the sense that other teams around us in the race for 4th have totally capitulated

2006 - spurs and the lasagne shits
2009 - Aston Villa completely pooing themselves from end of February
2012 - spurs drawing at Villa on the penultimate weekend of the season, allowing us to get third so we weren’t affected by Chelsea’s champions league win
2014 - Everton having a bum explosion when they could have pipped us to 4th by losing at home to palace and away at Southampton
2016 - Spurs 5-1 defeat away at already relegated Newcastle

There is something in that.
2006, to an extent although I don't think the lasagna thing affected them as much as they make out, they pretty much had a full strength team out. There is always a touch of fortune about relying on another result to go our way though.
I checked 2009 and although Villa did indeed poo themselves they were never that far ahead of us. 5 points at the end of Feb and we finished miles ahead of them and Everton, We won 8 of our last 11, that isn't luck.
2012...suppose so although we were 5 points clear of Spurs before we had a late season wobble so it was us who nearly threw it away on that occasion.
2014. We were 4th with 5 games to go but Everton were only a point behind us and had a game in hand. We won our last 5 games so while we did finish further above Everton than we might have I'd say we earned that one.
2016, we were lucky to finish 2nd but there's very little real difference between 2nd and 3rd, Spurs lost interest when they knew they wouldn't be Champions.

There have been some occasions where we have scraped into the top 4 or had to rely on other results, there are often fine lines in football. Overall though I don't think he has been especially lucky.
