Sounds like we were really lucky. I can tell because the word LUCK has now been mentioned 50 times in the Sky studio.

There was I, having watched the same game, thinking we'd been shit in the first half but the chavs weren't good enough to take advantage, and then we were much better in the second half and put plenty of pressure on them and scored one and could have scored three - what the fuck was I watching?

Damn, we are soooooooo lucky.

Lucky fucks.

Let's show replays of how lucky we are - over and over.

Ooooooohh, we are lucky. So lucky.

“I have always dreamed of the Premier League. I watch videos of Arsenal all the time on YouTube and I often wear the current Alexis Sanchez shirt.

Great result tonight, but two lucky goals it has to be said, stars are shining down on Wenger again to keep him in a job.

Chelsea have been awful this season, one man team really, just don't rate Conte, they won the title last season but this season he's been shocking, signing Morata for a start

Second half much better for sure, probably deserved to win on balance, but definitely tinged with a bit of fortune.

The first half was truly horrible and we could have easily been handed our arses back to us.......somehow managed to turn it around though. We're somewhat lucky Hazard's own fat arse sent him tumbling when he was beyond our backline yet again.

I'm glad Iwobi is knuckling down but his finishing really is horrible....dear me. Got some work to do to beat City....but it's a one off game and here's to hoping.

Felt a bit for Lacashite tonight. He’s being forced to do a lot of donkey work particularly in wide areas, his body language is that of a very frustrated bloke. Completely starved of service and feeding off scraps.

It’s essential we get Aubameyang to help stretch play and leave Laca to play through the middle and get a sight of goal.

I wish we'd stop with the "Glad Alexis has gone", "We're better without Alexis", bullshit. It makes us sound super bitter about the whole thing and it hardly covers up for the fact we have consistently failed to keep our best players. What are we going to say in the summer whenif Ozil goes too? Same shit? Glad he's gone? Better without him?

We're signing replacements right now. At least I hope we are. We're a club that should be signing additions to talent we should have retained. And even if we sign Aubameyang, we'll still have made a profit over the two windows. That's not good enough. It should have been pay Alexis (way back when he asked) AND sign Aubameyang. And we should have already signed Lemar, we should have offered the asking price when he was available and not left it to some crazy bid at the death.

It is NOT a good window if we swap Alexis for Mkhitaryan and sign Aubameyang. It's an acceptable window, at best. Like a resumption of the policy we seemed to have when we signed Ozil and Alexis - with a huge damaging gap in between then and now. Past mistakes that have deprived the club of any sort of momentum for over a decade don't get washed by one transfer window where we are STILL pocketing cash.

What about a defender and a DM? Jonny Evans for 20 odd million? No thanks. Didn't we have Reus "lined up" if Alexis left? What happened to that?

Quarter of a billion in the bank. What's it doing there?

So now they have given Wenger the money and taken that huge risk, go all in. 6 days to go to get the squad sorted, or else we are going into the latter stages of Europe with a seriously dodgy defence and no steel in the middle. Needs to be sorted and we have the funds to do it. So sort it FFS.

And why has it taken so long to sign Auba? What's going on over there? Why are the days drifting and what is it with the stupid underbids? There's still a chance we'll come out of this window with only a swap deal of Mkhitaryan for Alexis and a fat fuck off transfer profit. 50/50 I'd say. I'm still waiting for the Aubameyang Deal Dead headlines, like the ones we usually see when we get in sniffing distance of a proper signing. Would they dare?

We pulled ourselves together last season to win the cup and that was with Alexis. This is just what we do when on the brink of disaster, we suddenly find some backbone and manage to steer ourselves in the right direction. Nothing to do with Alexis or any one player and everything to do with a lackadaisical mentality that runs through a team that picks and chooses when they want to turn up.

I'm a little concerned about Lacazette, though fair play to him, he kept going and played his part.

I'm excited about the possibility of signing Aubameyang but I tend to agree that even if we do sign him.....the window has been acceptable. There's just no getting away from the fact we have allowed our best player to go to a major rival in spite of making the best of a grotesque self created situation.

Why did we buy Lacuntzette? He doesn't suit our game at all.

He suited our game during the banter years when we were creating 50 chances a game and playing free flowing, attacking football. But he doesn't suit the modern Arsenal which is more pragmatic, rigid and creates 0.5 chances a game.

It looks really disjointed at times and I don't think Xhaka suits our game at all as well as one or two others......but I'm willing to give it time with Lacazette.

Aubameyang is the guy I wanted us to go for in the summer but I was grateful we signed a competent goal savvy player in Lacazette so it's ironic we could end up with the pair of them!

I tend to think whether we like it or not, the best forwards we've had of the Wenger era tend to be able to drop into midfield periodically to make things happen or get the ball as well as the standard running off the shoulder forward player. It was partly that ability that made them so great. Lacazette isn't so great at that but he is good at small combination play in the final third and that has saved him from looking completely out of his depth recently.

Niall_Quinn
25-01-2018, 08:52 AM
Xhaka suits our game perfectly. Tip. Tap. Tip. Tap.

Aubameyang does not suit our game in any way. Everything about him is the opposite to what we play. I thought when we dropped 50 mill on Lacazette Wenker would change our (so-called) style to integrate him. Like fuck. Now we want to buy another 50 mill striker. Perhaps Wenker will twig.

As much as it was a good result yesterday, it wasn't vintage stuff, first half was woeful, 2nd half was much better but both our goals were due to deflections so we got lucky.

Chelsea on the other hand, really look ordinary, had a few injuries yesterday but the reality is their team is not great, Conte isn't do a good job IMO, the strikers are average (always thought Morata was highly overrated) and once they lost Willian they struggled. Man City will be a different kettle of fish as they actually have players who can hurt you all over the pitch.

Yeah this happens every season, nothing new, we've got not staying power, yes we win the odd cup but it doesn't take much resilience to win those, you just need to turn up on the day and get a bit of luck.

The chavs looked shit last night, they really were nothing special at all.

That's the worrying thing though as we looked average in the first half. As soon as Jack started making some runs with Ozil we looked much more potent but the attack is shit. Lacazette has no pace (could be a confidence thing) but we kept going out wide every time. It was terrible to watch. The same ideas every single time.

Wenger needs to go as he clearly isn't teaching them anything different.
I must have seen about 12 different attacks that should have resulted in a shot at goal or a goal and every one of them ended the same way - in our own half.

Opta stats will probably show that we had:

Most number of passes in our own half
Most possession in our own half
Most number of passes outside the 18 yard box
Most possession around the 18 yard box.

If we were a top team we could have won 5 or 6 nil as Chavs were THAT average.

I know we won but I am only more concerned, after watching that, going forward.
