England's gaping hole is going to be midfield again though, I daresay Wheelchair is going to get picked out of necessity more than anything else.

We might actually have a chance of reaching the quarters.

Our group has pub teams in it and we’d have a second round tie against someone from group H, which is another pub group.

McNamara That Ghost...

I don't think Colombia are a pub team tbf. Especially given England's propensity for going out against well, anybody in the knock-out stages.

Butland; Trippier, Cahill, Stones, Young; Shelvey, Wilshere, Grealish, Lallana, Sterling; Kane.

A first touch>fantasy football points.

Media is claiming Hart hasn't made the squad. Odd, considering he's such a well known world class keeper, according to the pundits.

Syn
15-05-2018, 04:43 PM
Wilshere hasn't made it either apparently. And Grealish obviously won't make it because he's playing in the championship. So there's goes my interest in England's team. Southgate didn't have any balls or understanding of technical ability in 1996 and he doesn't have any now. I shouldn't be surprised. A cowardly man.

McNamara That Ghost...
15-05-2018, 05:15 PM
Surprised Wheelchair wouldn't be there, I don't really know what other midfielders there are.

Also, Hart was being projected by the pundits to be there for his 'experience'. Experience of what exactly?

Marc Overmars
15-05-2018, 05:34 PM
Wheelchair isn't very good and frankly the entire England squad is rancid anyway. Kane is the only difference maker we have but he's going to need some quality service. No Eriksen or Son to rely on here.

Think Lallana's pretty good. Dier has shown he's useful in a holding role. But yeah, there aren't any real options and all this shows is that technical ability isn't really a requirement. England are still stuck in the stone age. I look forward to the England neantherdals getting killed.

Yeah, but when Fabian Delph is the alternative it's crazy not t take Jack. Picking Delph is like having a hole in the squad where a footballer ought to be. But he's a plodder like Soutgate and great plodders plod alike.

Three stone carvings of a pissed Gazza in the centre circle would have more ability, mobility and nous than the England midfield.

If Wheelchair was being omitted for some genuine talent like that twelve year-old at Man City, it would be understandable. But when Southgate has constantly favoured slack-jawed uruk-hai to players who can sometimes resemble footballers, it's embarrassing. Young and exciting Southers is a bigger dinosaur than Fat Sam and Pulis somehow.

I still think he's good (won't be close to what he was supposed to be, but his ankle's fucked so...), but completely agree. I'd rather Phil Foden or Sancho in the squad instead of most of the talentless crap that'll be included.

It's all academic anyway. Like us in the CL. Pub it through the early stages and get knocked out by the first decent (or in the case of England, awful) team we come up against. Pointless watching them because we already know what happens.

Me too, to be honest fair play for not taking him to the World Cup, he's never proved himself to be good enough and can't ever stay fit, he's been living on hype for his entire career, when he does leave us which looks to be this summer that will pretty much be the end of his career at the top level, only Walcott managed a longer stint with us based on hype alone.

Got to say though, taking Welbeck what was he thinking, the guy can't score for toffee.

Not really sure why any of these players care about being selected? Doesn't seem worth it for 3 matches in Russia where they're probably going to get booed, insulted, ridiculed, have bottles and lighters thrown at them, have their bus mobbed and attacked, have the fire alarm going off in their hotels every night, etc, etc - think I'd rather be off on my holidays...

That's what I think too. And I wouldn't be against it. It's just about the one team he can't fuck up, and it'd be interesting to see if he could introduce a bit of football into the England set up, rather than the pub hackathon we are so used to. Of course he wouldn't be able to select Xhaka, so that might deter him from taking the job.

It is now but historically it hasn't always been so. I remember Italia '90, Euro '96 and France '98 very well and on all 3 occasions we went toe to toe with one of the big countries and on the night could have won it.
96 in particular, Gazza's outstretched boot...we were an inch away from winning that tournament.

Now we're struggling to get out of the group or having embarrassing defeats to teams like Iceland

Now I appreciate what he brings in other areas so I don’t think he’s a dud, I just don’t think someone with a career average of what, 8 goals a season can be considered a decent striker.

He seems to have enjoyed more consistency with England so I think he’s definitely an important player for them.
