Agree the Utd game is a big factor - we have to win that IMO, so if i was Emery i'd play mostly second string players and if we have to rescue the tie in the second leg so be it. At least it's not far to travel.

Auba has been complete pub so far.

We've brought this on ourselves by not finishing them off and some sloppiness, but I think the referee has given all but one decision in their favour. It's like being away at Stoke and the weak ref being controlled by the baying crowd.

I hate Kroenke as much as the next man but today was nothing to do with him. It was arsenal collapsing and shooting themselves in the foot again. We are much better than Rennes and started off well but then went to sleep and had a man sent off and conceded an own goal to boot. It’s 100 percent down to the playing staff and not the management.

What I dont understand about this team and its been the case almost in my adult memory now that once we go a man down we ALWAYS fall to pieces. It doesnt matter if we are playing Wycome Wanderers, Burton Albion, or Villareal. Its as predictable as clockwork.

I don't think Emery's decisions helped either. Mhiki at RB for the rest of the game when AMN was on the bench. Ozil kept on in the 2nd half when we should have played 4 across midfield to try and frustrate them. Instead we were completely open and allowed them chance after chance.

We are making a mess of things this year but I reckon we’ve a chance of progressing.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m pissed off about the result but there are some hints that things are a bit better this year.
We are very much in the hunt for a top 4 finish and while I think we will probably fall short, this time last year there was already no chance.

In brief, I think we are heading in the right direction, but slowly.
While Kronke is in charge I can’t see us properly competing for titles.

My instinct is that in terms of getting CL football we've more chance of top 4

i know a lot of people think otherwise but i think there are better teams in the El tihis year than last year, and as our last two away results show we can't win away easily, so i think sooner or later we'll get done in the home tie as well.

Having said that we 'only' need to beat Rennes 2-0 to get through so hopefully we can turn this around - but it means he'll have to wheel out a very good side to make sure which then puts pressure on the selection for the following PL game.

We know the teams in the PL and we seem to be able to raise our game against the big teams, to the point where i'm reasonably optimistic that with a better set of officials, we've a good chance of beating Moan U

if we do it gives us a decent chance of top 4 if we can hold it together - and if we get any kind of notable points lead over Moan U and Chelsea, then if i was Emery i'd definitely prioritise the PL over the EL

I did think the EL would be our best shot but based on the knockouts so far I can't say that anymore with conviction. It's not a mountain we need to climb, more a steep hill but it's still work that could easily have been avoided had we applied ourselves correctly. This is why I wanted us to draw the best teams because our complacency knows no bounds, at least against the better sides you know we might raise our game.

Could be Emery's first taste of the boo boys if we don't turn it around next week.

We are more than capable of beating any of the teams left in the tournament. Napoli, Chelsea and Inter are amongst the contenders and in that order IMO.

Of those teams, Napoli are the only team who I believe we would have real difficulty beating over 2 legs or even a one-off. We can def beat Chelsea, though it could go either way, I think the same with Inter.
