Well tbh with all that's going on at Derby he's done a pretty good job there though think the Everton job could be too soon for him. Maybe when the job comes up again in a couple of months

Just checked. Derby are in the relegation zone in the Championship....and we are supposed to give Rooney props for that?. Frank was doing way better before he fell hard at Chelsea. Rooney needs to survive and surpass being relegated if he is to get a job like Everton who need experience and savvy right now, not another novice who once played for them.

Derby had a 21 point deduction. They'd be top half without that. Still not massively impressive.

We are going to need to win all of our head to heads (Spurs away, United home and West Ham away) to finish 4th. Spurs are quietly churning out victories and have been unbeaten in the league since Conte has been there so there is no room for error if we want to finish top 4.

Marc Overmars

Stamford Bridge, Anfield, Etihad and Old Trafford is rough though.

No doubt they will be seriously challenging for it but I dunno I think that might be a bit too much.

Yeah we will see. They are a different animal under Conte though, I don't even think they look that great but they look very difficult to beat and seem to have found this new mental strength or character or whatever you want to call it. I could definitely see them picking up points at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, they could win at both grounds TBH.

Our game over there is massive now, we have to win there now.

McNamara That Ghost...
19-01-2022, 09:46 PM
Well the League Cup isn't a great indicator of them getting anything at Stamford Bridge.

Losing points, twice? against teams that were down to ten men. They're certainly not an immovable object, next season with Conte they could be though.

Having said that, Chelsea look bereft in the league right now.

Oh wow! Fair play to Conte - he’s at least got them playing right up to the final whistle. That’s the second or third game they’ve nicked in stoppage time now - gonna need to keep that in mind when we play them.

I’m not overly worrying myself about spurs just yet - they’re getting the results right now, but if you watch them they’re not really passing ‘the eye test’ in any convincing way. Reminds me very much of that 20-odd game unbeaten run that Emery went on when he first took over - if you looked at just the results then everything looked rosy, but when you actually watched us play there was nothing to explain it? Defence was a shambles, our hearts were in our mouths whenever we tried to play out from the back, our build up was unstructured and chaotic, and Auba and Laca were skewing perception by converting almost every half chance that fell to them - the wheels were always going to come off at some point.

They’ll hit a wall at some point, I’m sure of it (especially with the number of rearranged games they need to squeeze in). The bigger worry for me right now is the thinness of our squad - if we can’t reinforce this window then we’re heading for a wall ourselves.

Yeah that's my worry too......oh and having Xhaka chuck games for us

I actually think we are the strongest of all the challengers for 4th place based on how we have been performing as a team over the past few months, but that doesn't always translate to us actually finishing 4th, i don't fully trust this team hence why I have Spurs down as favourites for 4th. The thing is we are in a good moment right now in terms of the League form, I do worry we could fall off once we hit a bit of sticky form.

There is basically no room for error now with us. I think we are going to have to go on a deep winning run to be right in the mix come the business end of the season. I also think we are going to need to win or at the very worst draw at Spurs, and make sure we win both or at least one of the remaining games against Man U and West Ham.
