Right now I'm not really giving it too much attention really, the PS3 is doing me fine and I'm in no rush to get one.

I'm not having too much trouble, don't think much of the games line up at the moment, need some better games to come out before I buy one. A lot of the games have changed their release date to 2014.

The majority of Sony franchises are desperately unappealing. Killzone and Knack :lol:.

Microsoft may not have as much variety in their exclusive portfolio, but there's usually the guarantee of a solid game in Forza/Halo/Gear Of War.

Sony, in a great WUMger-esque move are releasing their biggest game of the holiday season on the PS3: GT6.

This is true. I think a game like New Super Mario Bros would probably make kids lose interest quickly because it must be fairly brutal on single player. And of course, CoD and Fifa are the ones where you can change the setting to easy. :whistle:

I don't think that's relevant because it's a case of buying the game in the 1st place and those games largely appeal to kids more due to their cartoony nature, whether it's hard or not doesn't come into it.

Many parents of younger kids won't buy them COD because it's has an adult rating and has a lot of violence, I'm not saying there aren't kids playing it because obviously there are (there's many millions of people who play it), but I've played online a lot in the past and although there are some kids there are tonnes of adults as well.

My sister has two kids under 10 and they can play games like Mario but she won't let them play games like COD.

:whistle: Fell in love with the Black Ops II multiplayer a year ago and I'm still playing it now, it's still relatively free of boosters & hackers and if you get bored of 12 year olds (and the French)

I'm not sure what we're talking about now really. What I really wanted to point out before confusing myself was that both game franchises (hate that word) go across the opposite demographic from what they are supposedly aiming for.

The presentation of say Super Mario Galaxy and 2 might be 'for kids' but the gameplay, assuming you're like me and want to get every star, definitely isn't. The Grandmaster challenge on Galaxy 2 was insane for instance.

I wasn't sure of getting it either, but I did, and I'm enjoying the game so far. Its slightly more slower paced than BO2, but I like that it forces you to be more tactically aware than the previous games as you die more easily in this. Though there are still a bunch of fags who camp in corners of rooms and shoot as you walk in, but that's in every CoD game really. The new perk system in the game also seems well balanced compared to the previous games.

Yeah I liked BO2 alot early on, bought it when it came out and got up to the end of 5th prestige on the multiplayer, but stopped playing it for a while and didn't really get back to playing it properly. One thing I like in BO2 which isn't in Ghosts, is that it rewards you, by your scorestreak bar going up on the side, for doing game mode objectives, such as picking up the tags in kill confirmed, or holding a position in domination.

In Ghosts, they've removed the scorestreaks, and changed it back to killstreaks only which is why the fags are camping even more rather than playing the game modes properly.

Fair enough, it does get repetitive at times and would be better if you had more freedom in taking any route you wanted rather than being forced to use a pre-determined route they want you to go on, but other than that it was pretty good.

Why because Sony and I think that a company who have traditionally focussed on the family market should stick to doing so? Nintendo aren't doing well in case you haven't noticed and that's because they've tried to appeal to the hardcore gamer and it just isn't working.

Their most successful games are the ones clearly primarily aimed at the younger and family market.

Outside Xbox are doing a six hour live show playing all, well, most of the Xbox One launch games from 12pm tomorrow. I'll just have to vicariously enjoy it/loathe it given it has little bit priced me out currently.

If you want to get a console for gaming, go for the PS4, its far superior, better exclusives, and for the online subscription you get better stuff each month.

I always had an xbox, had the first one, then bought a limited edition crystal edition, then bought the 360. But I've swapped to Sony now.

Just saw this, assuming the games retail at £40-45, it'd make system around £400

I don't really think it's 'superior', Im not exactly particularly impressed with the line-up for that either. The price is obviously a lot better (although I don't have to worry about Microsoft subcription for a long time) but aside from that, it's basically the same games you can probably get on the PS3 and for me on the Xbox 360.

For instance on Amazon the first games listed on the PS4 are FIFA/Battlefield/CoD/Assasin's Creed/Killzone/Destiny/Watch Dogs. All of those bar Killzone I can play without needing to spend 300/400/500 pounds. :lol:

The Playstation is more powerful and cheaper. That doesn't make it superior but I've got my eye on it. There isn't a game out for either console that makes me want buy one anytime soon. Launch games are usually weak rush jobs so you can't judge yet. But I'm put off by the xbox. They are pushing this micro transaction agenda in a serious way. Also, they don't have many studios working on exclusive games for them. That's also worry.

I don't trust their direction at all. It screams of trying to milk the consumer for more pennies. The early talk of not being able to trade in games, lend them to your friends already left a sour taste and seeing the TV connection thing they're pushing, I think they've taken their eye off the ball! Read the Forza 5 review and they have stripped that game back badly and I'd much rather they released the full package instead of offering a fraction of the cars on launch so they can add the rest through downloadable content they'll charge for.

They need to invest in some studios because the lack of original franchises is alarming. 360 is a great console but they lost serious steam towards the end and you could see the desperation. Forza Horizon not long after Forza 4 came out, a new Gears spinoff despite the fact that Gears 3 ended the story...they squeezed Halo to death every year and even let a new developer handle it after Bungie had enough...not good signs.

Loved the first two boxes and always end up getting a Playstation later but it will probably be the reverse this time or maybe just the Playstation if I don't see anything great from the xbox.

Another thing is, the PS3 will still have games coming out for it for a while to come, the online play will remain free, and you can still keep in contact with anyone who has a PS4 through PSN. I'll get round to getting a PS4 eventually though.

Hmmmmm...I think they've taken a wrong turn with that franchise. Killzone 2 is the best one. Feeling that pad rattle when letting off rounds with a Helghast SMG....nothing like it. They toned it down for KZ3.

Looking forward to walking dead 2. Telltale have announced they are working on a Game of Thrones game as well as a borderlands game. Wish they would concentrate on The Wolf Among Us and Walking dead 2 before starting more projects.

At least they are still generating a lot of money from the 3DS, and I would guess that they would still have money from the success of the Wii. The big problem they face is what will they do when its time to replace the 3DS, especially with the massive increase in mobile gaming. Hopefully they can sort it out.

They are nowhere near being in the position Sega was during the Dreamcast years. Anyone suggesting so is incredibly ignorant and has a wildly incorrect picture of the situation. Even a two minute Google search would tell you that. Sega were coming off numerous failures and strange business decisions and in reality never had more than one hardware success (Mega Drive). And while their software is still held in high regard, it never had the consistent commercial impact of Nintendo's back catalogue. If Nintendo have another three Wii U-like hardware disasters, there might be a genuine chance of them being in serious trouble many years down the line, but at the moment they'll continue to do what they've always done. They'll probably release some apps, but most will probably act as promotional tools rather than full Nintendo games.

Despite the initial success of the PS4, it's still Sony who are in a far more precarious situation. They're a huge company but are currently barely worth more than Nintendo who's only focus is games. Most of their departments are struggling and have been for years. Even in the days of the PS2 dominating, Nintendo made more profit and the PS3 was a money-sucking black hole. We know that the Vita is a flop which they don't seem to be supporting themselves, so if the PS4 struggles to make them money, they'll be in real trouble.

Nintendo just hasn't moved with the times, people are getting tired of Mario and Zelda which is pretty much all they've been churning out for 20 years other than the Wii which appealed to the family market.

The people who spend money are the people who you might term serious gamers and Nintendo have little appeal to those due to their insistence on sticking with kiddie games and not delivering powerful machines that can compete with the other companies.

Money disappears very quickly when profits dip because the cost of developing knew hardware/softward is very high.

Incidentally Sega had the Mastersystem before the Megadrive which was also a success and produced plenty of games as well, as for Sony, yes many of their departments don't make a profit (I worked for them as well btw), but the Playstation division is very lucrative and due to their fan base is a money making machine.
