West Ham's new home could be known as the Tesco Stadium after it emerged the supermarket giant is poised to join the race to secure the renaming rights for the Olympic Stadium.

What a fitting tribute to the magnificent 2012 Olympic games that raised sport out of the gutter and back to the heights, if only for a short time. The Tesco Stadium. It really does conjure up visions of those great sporting moments.

This kind of thing doesn't expose systemic corruption, it exposes human frailty. People at the end of the day only do what they think they can get away with, and if the FA were convinced that Allardyce was the right man for the job they should have kept him.

If it's an altruistic media doing it to remove the corrupt elements from it then great. I rather suspect this is only occuring because he was the England manager, why not do it before he ever got the job? I highly doubt this is brand new informaton on how Fat Sam was.

I don't have any particular sadness for Fat Sam, I don't think he should have been manager in the first place purely for football reasons alone. To me it strikes more as a media that will look for any opportunity to undermine the national team but then be the first ones to ask "why has it all gone wrong?".

In essence sure, remove the nefarious elements from the game, not going to argue with that but I don't think labelling this as being that automatically is really going to help achieve that long term.

It was a 10 month investigation that was on bribery and corruption according to the report. Fat Sam hadn't even had a training session with England when caught on camera. It would have been a big story to catch a Prem manager in on the act and they have just got lucky with his appointment if they heard he was dirty. I don't think they were out to get the England manager. It looks more like good timing.

In light of the news of their findings, the Daily Telegraph has said it will pass transcripts to the FA and will also hand over information to the police.

The newspaper also revealed it had contacted all of the managers named by the agents and that five of them had responded with denials of taking bungs while three had not responded.

They have also reported that later this week it will disclose the name of an assistant manager at a leading club who was filmed accepting a £5,000 cash payment from undercover reporters posing as representatives of a Far Eastern firm that was seeking to invest in players.

I hope they don't intend to leave it in the hands of the FA and the police without naming names themselves. It will be one big cover-up with a couple of scapegoats thrown to the hounds if that happens. Details of EVERYONE involved in this need to be made public because it's only when things become public that the authorities act.

The FA will approach Arsene Wenger again as they seek a permanent replacement for disgraced former England manager Sam Allardyce.

Wenger's contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season, and with Gareth Southgate placed in caretaker charge of England for the four games against Malta, Slovenia, Scotland and Spain, the FA would look to appoint the Frenchman at the conclusion of his deal.

However, they might struggle to do so. Sportsmail understands Arsenal are hopeful of agreeing a contract extension with Wenger.

Surely this is the ideal moment? See out the contract (and why not win a title while you are at it FFS!), take up the England job. Perfect for everyone except the beancounters in the Arsenal boardroom. Which is perfect for everyone.

That's the trouble with the law. It is there to protect those with cash and dump all over those without it. So libellous, in this case, will likely mean - can't afford a better lawyer. We'll see assistant managers getting crucified and the big-time, multi-millionaires walking through the rain drops without getting the slightest bit wet. I mean why would you even meet with one of these far east operations? There's plenty in the public domain that shows in no uncertain terms what these shady gangs are all about. Wayne Rooney will remain as England captain under caretaker boss Gareth Southgate.

The Under 21 manager has spoken to Rooney, 30, and assured the striker he will keep the armband.

Southgate, who was appointed for at least four matches following Sam Allardyce's departure on Tuesday, sought the advice of coaching staff, who described Rooney as the outstanding leader within the England team.

First thing each of them has to do when they arrive - guarantee Rooney's place. After that, a call to Martin Samuel for instructions on the remainder of the team.

But the surprised Three Lions squad only received the note after the disgraced boss had been sacked by the Football Association following damaging revelations in a newspaper sting.

Allardyce was removed from his job as national boss on Tuesday - the same day the postcard was sent out - after it emerged he used his position to explore the possibility of earning extra money while also handing out advice on how to get around FA transfer rules on third party ownership.

Will he send a follow-up - "We have reached our final destination."

Rooney for England Manager?

No wait, bear with me. Surely there's an advantage to appointing a complete flop who can consistently put in shit performances and get paid a fortune for doing so? Isn't that the very definition of the England manager's job? And when you are already loved (not necessarily in a sexual way, but that's okay too) then wouldn't the media finally be behind the manager come what may, no matter what the outcome? And we'd get that consistency and longevity we've been missing. I can easily see Wazza in the job for 30 years without so much as a whimper from the press, regardless of how much humiliation was added to the album.

But perhaps too soon. Shrek is still a world class player after all. Isn't he?

It's unsurprising in the sense that there were murmurings for a few weeks that Guidolin was on borrowed time but it is utterly bizarre considering their results and performances so far.

They've only really had one bad result and that was losing to Hull. All their other losses were against teams they were expected to lose to: , Southampton away, Man City and Liverpool. And for the latter, they were incredibly unlucky with a terrible pelanty decision and dodgy finishing. They took points against Chelsea and have had some good performances.

Anyway, just hope that Bradley doesn't begin his honeymoon period against us.

Guilty, innocent, lies, truth don't even enter into the proceedings in a British court. Most things like this are decided on technicalities hinging on legal gobbledygook. Nothing can be concluded just because a British court has made a pronouncement. I once gave evidence in a rape trial (I hasten to add I wasn't defending myself at the time). It was 100% CERTAIN the scum bag did it - absolutely beyond all shadow of all doubt. And EVERYONE in the court knew it too. But the police fucked up when they gathered one minor piece of evidence and that was that. Innocent. The brief explained afterwards that this was a typical outcome. So all you can really say, looking in from the outside, is maybe he's guilty, maybe he's innocent, maybe he's a dumb arse for putting himself in that situation in the first place, maybe she's a bigger dumbarse still for ending up in that situation, maybe she's something far worse. Maybe she was raped. All we can say for certain is you won't learn anything from a British court. So I guess we shouldn't swing from calling him a scumbag to calling her a slag - because who the hell knows?

There will be considerable concern around football that viewing figures for Sky Sports’ live Premier League matches this season have dropped by a whopping 19 per cent.

The dramatic year-on-year fall has occurred in the first season of a new rights deal with Sky and BT Sport having paid over £5billion between them for their three-year contracts for the match packages.

The surprise slide in Sky’s ratings comes despite an exciting start to the season plus the huge hype surrounding the managerial tussle between Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp.

People are getting bored of it. The hype. The ridiculous amounts of money sloshing around. The horrible prices that turn real fans away from the gates and surely in some cases turn them away from football in general. The declining standard of the game and the boredom of the ultra defensive play from most teams. The game is eating itself and by the sound of it just took a huge bite out of its own arse. Which might not be a bad thing if it stops the game escaping entirely up its own hole.

There's also the not so small matter of greedy Sky's ridiculous pricing. At the height of a recession people can't afford it, so of course subscriptions are dropping. But that's not to say actual viewers have fallen. I'd say quite a few have switched to pirate streams. I suppose we'll see the lawyers step up their antics to try and get more streams shut down. And if that happens, I still won't pay for Sky. I get it for free right now but I hardly ever switch it on. It's shite. Just a bunch of ads broken up by low quality crap. Everything I want is on pirate streams or CartoonHD. And Netflix. I just about don't mind paying for that - but it's getting close.

Marc Overmars

Can't say I'm surprised, I know a lot of people that have grown bored of the product and cancelled their subscriptions. Very rarely do I watch games as a neutral anymore, so as soon as they stop offering me the discounted price I have, I'm out. It's such a rip off.

I have to say though, having grown tired of watching it on TV, I'm actually enjoying going to the games again. I feel that experience was lost on me for a while having become saturated with the amount of football I'd watch on TV.

I'd go to the home games but it would cost me around £100 a pop, what with the travel and the luxury of a few beers. Plus the rail system is bloody awful and you end up on a bus instead of a train most weekends. Nowhere near worth the fuss and doubly so if you have to suffer one of those tip-tap marathons instead of a decent game. Much preferred watching the Legends match, and the Copa. If football was like that every week then I'd pay. As it is, no way.

As long as they have Rooney, the dream is never over. Even after 38 games.

On the subject of fake news, the principle is so similar to the football gossip columns in newspapers which I can't imagine have to be in anyway fact checked and yet still people have people feverishly scanning through them to see any news involving their side.......what i don't understand is why i don't get involved in this lucrative racket.

Just lazy I guess, maybe I'll write a gushing article for the Canary and see what they think of it.

Was talking to West Ham fans about the BT sport commentary bias, i e how they were practically willing West Ham back into the game......frankly surprised didn't hear a "go on" in celebration when Carroll scored....probably because they knew it was a consolation although they were trying to make out it was game on.

One of them chimes up and says it makes up for Alan Smith at sky sports, does he actually hear Alan Smith?....presumably not.

Ex-Arsenal players are far more negative towards us than than the obviously biased ex-players tub-thumping mindlessly for the other big clubs.

Most of them resemble a schizophrenic, brain-dead Eeyore. Like Arsenal fans ha ha ha.

Hartson and Charlie Nicholas are the only ones who seem to support the team and even they can be critical at times. I suppose it's better than having fanboy eejits like Thompson, Dwight Yorke or Pat Nevin, but it creates an unbalanced media portrayal.

Any club but Arsenal can trigger Roberto Firmino's reported £82million release clause at Liverpool, according to the Football Leaks website.

The forward has been a standout performer for Jurgen Klopp this season with six goals as the Reds sit third in the Premier League.

There will be admirers of the Brazilian in future transfer windows but Football Leaks claimed that Arsenal are prohibited from signing him. Liverpool do not comment on issues of a legal nature.

The guy that was paid off by Chelsea was on telly the other day, saying that the money given wasn't enough to buy his silence. Funny that, because when he wilfully signed the silencing clause and took the money, the amount seemed fine then.

I do find there is a massive hypocrisy that people at the top of the tree talk about the danger of the money in Chinese football

European leagues have had a hegemony for years on inflated wages and transfers, the Chinese have just taken it to the next level.

The financial bubble that permeates around football shows no sign of bursting any time soon, and the whole thing is obscene. But I see no reason whilst that's the case that Asia should not try and financially outmuscle the European leagues.
