Three and a half mil for Lineker and Hansen.

Seriously, who could give a flying fuck about what they, Lauro and Shearer have to say about the game?

MOTD is the biggest waste of money on that channel.

I didn't think Dixon was all that interesting, but you'd have to think constantly being in the presence of dullard bots like Hansen and Lawro would dumb down anyone remotely interesting. Robbie Savage will probably get a promotion out of this.

It almost became worse when they realised Shearer was saying nothing and told him some tactical things to say, cos his nothingness would still creep in but it would mix up with those predefined comments, causing a syncopated verbal mess, an entanglement of the incomprehensible, the bland and the said-without-understanding.

Hansen's just a drunkard slurring through the same stock phrases he's been relying on since the 60s.

Lawrenson is the shitty anal uncle who only comes round at Christmas and waits too close to the bathroom door so you're sure he's deliberately trying to listen to you crap. And then makes snotty sarcastic comments about everyone's presents. Comments he thinks are witty and subversive because he hasn't listened to anything outside his own head for decades.

I don't mind Lineker tbf, unspeakably orange though he may be.

It was well summed up during the World Cup when the Old Boys were previewing a Slovakia match. It wasn't groundbreaking, but Dixon had the temerity to highlight Hamsik as a key player...before Hansen basically laughed at the concept of research. That's what I mean about the poison of HansenBot spreading and rendering original thought pointless.

Michel Platini has revealed changes could soon be made to the structure of the European Championship held every four years.

The Frenchman, who captained France to glory in the 1984 edition of the tournament, also expressed his personal opinion and preference regarding the competition's organisation.

"In a few months we will discuss the matter with the national associations. Before the end of the year, a decision will be made," the 57-year old told The Guardian.

"I would prefer the Euros be played in 13 countries."

"The semi-finals and final would be played in the same country. 12 other countries would be assigned four other matches each," he concluded.

The former Ballon d'Or winner also reiterated his views on goal-line technology: "Technology is not good for football. I simply oppose it and I won't change my opinion [at my age]."

Euro 2016, the first edition to feature 24 nations, will be held in France, where current holders Spain will look to claim a third consecutive crown.

FOOTBALL

Russia captain Igor Denisov has begged Zenit Saint Petersburg for forgiveness after walking out on the club for a month in protest at the salary paid to Brazilian new signing Hulk.

The influential midfielder has not played for Zenit since late September after refusing to train because of the reported 100m euros (£80m) the team paid for the striker and Axel Witsel of Belgium.

Denisov was in the process of renegotiating his own contract, which runs through to 2014, and felt that the club was disrespecting players who had won the championship for the second year running last year.

On his protest, he said: "I was wrong in this situation. I was driven by my emotions, and in the end failed to help my team-mates."

Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini admits he wants to play for 'one of the biggest clubs' but insists he is prepared to be patient.

The Belgium international has been in sparkling form this season, fuelling speculation that he could be the next high-profile figure to head through the exits at Goodison Park.

Talk of a big-money move during the January transfer window is currently doing the rounds, with Chelsea among those said to be keen.

Fellaini, who is under contract at Everton until 2016, concedes that he has ambitions of gracing the very highest level, but he will not be pushing for a move and, at the age of 25, appreciates that time is on his side."There is in interest in me," he is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"But Everton are an ambitious club as well.

"I don't think they will let their best players go just like that.

"I want to play for one of the biggest clubs one day. But I am patient."

You can only be racist if you are white.

Not really, legislation protects everyone, black and white, from racism. The fact that there is an organisation for black lawyers doesn't make it racist. I'm sure they don't exclude people of different ethnic groups from joining and given that blacks make up a very small proportion of all lawyers in the UK, it is understandable why you have a group like this.

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt insists the club are not pushing Lewis Holtby to decide on his future.

The Germany international midfielder has one year left on his current deal, and he has been very strongly linked with a move to England.

Although German, Holtby's father is English and he has previously admitted an interest in playing in the Premier League.

Despite the fact he is out-of-contract at the end of the season, Heldt insists the club respect Holtby taking his time.

Heldt told Deutsche Presseagentur: "We are in intensive talks with Lewis (Holtby).

"I would be glad to see him decide in our favour then. Still it is very important for him to take his time and look into options at other clubs.

"It's the only way for him to find out that Schalke 04 is the right choice for him as a player."

GFH Capital, a subsidiary of Bahraini investment bank Gulf Finance House, is a private equity firm, specialising in investing money in “growth companies”.
Bates said GFH deputy chief executive Haigh and director Salem Patel, who have attended several of Leeds’ home games this season, were grateful for the transition period.

“They think this is important because they know nothing about the day-to-day running of Leeds United and I’m happy to work in tandem with them to ensure that the learning curve from their point of view is as smooth and as easy as possible.

“We’ve had to be very careful about who has come along, but these people have the resources and are backed by a very rich individual, who is very close to the government of Bahrain, so it gives us confidence we’ve made the right choice here.”

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have been named on the 15-man midfield shortlist for the FIFPro World XI of 2012.

Liverpool skipper Gerrard and Chelsea stalwart Lampard are the only Englishmen to make the cut, with the pair rewarded for their displays at Euro 2012 and in winning the UEFA Champions League respectively.

They also form part of a five-man Premier League contingent, with Manchester City duo Yaya Toure and David Silva and Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard recognised by their fellow professionals.

Toure is the only non-European on the shortlist, while Hazard makes the grade for the first time in his blossoming career.

Elsewhere, there are four representatives from Barcelona - Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fabregas - and three from Real Madrid - Mesut Ozil, Luka Modric and Xabi Alonso.

Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo's efforts in helping Italy to the final of Euro 2012 are rightly recognised, while Franck Ribery and Bastian Schweinsteiger complete the list having played starring roles in Bayen Munich's run to the 2012 Champions League final.

Full midfield shortlist for the FIFPro World XI 2012:

Xabi Alonso (Spain/Real Madrid), Sergio Busquets (Spain/Barcelona), Cesc Fabregas (Spain/Barcelona), Steven Gerrard (England/Liverpool), Eden Hazard (Belgium/Chelsea), Andres Iniesta (Spain/Barcelona), Frank Lampard (England/Chelsea), Luka Modric (Croatia/Real Madrid), Mesut Ozil (Germany/Real Madrid), Andrea Pirlo (Italy/Juventus), Franck Ribery (France/Bayern Munich), David Silva (Spain/Manchester City), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany/Bayern Munich), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast/Manchester City), Xavi (Spain/Barcelona).

Sky Sports understands Everton are lining up a move for former Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

Scotland international Gordon is available on a free transfer after leaving Sunderland in the summer.

Everton boss David Moyes admitted after Saturday's draw with Norwich that a lack of competition was harming Tim Howard's form at Goodison Park and he is now thought to be ready to bring in Gordon to add to his goalkeeping options.

Moyes is keen to bring in a new goalkeeper with Howard's deputy Jan Mucha out of contract at the end of the season and he has had several trialists in over the last few weeks to cast an eye over possible reinforcements.

Gordon joined Sunderland from Hearts in 2007 for £9million but his time at the Stadium of Light was blighted by a series of injuries.

A number of clubs have been linked with Gordon, but Everton are now ready to offer the keeper the chance to get his career back on track.

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill insists he did not offer to resign from his post in the wake of a 4-2 defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

After seeing the Black Cats suffer a third setback in their last four outings, it was suggested that O'Neill was willing to stand aside.

Speculation did not take long to spread, with Sunderland's lowly standing in the Premier League table offering weight to the claims.

O'Neill, though, remains very much in charge at the Stadium of Light and is focused on the task of guiding his side away from danger.

He appreciates that rumour and gossip is part of modern day football, but is disappointed to have once again seen his future on Wearside called into question."I don't think there is much more to say, other than the fact that anybody can get on to Twitter and say whatever they want," O'Neill told Sky Sports.

"The very fact that no-one can verify the story makes it a bit disappointing. It was absolute nonsense.

"It's the name of the game. That's what's happening nowadays. It happened once before way back a couple of years ago. These things, there are nothing in them."

New QPR boss Harry Redknapp admits he needed a break from football after enduring an extraordinary 2012.
Redknapp takes charge of QPR at Sunderland (http://topics.skysports.com/sunderland/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif on Tuesday night following almost six months out of the game since being sacked by Tottenham in June.
The 65-year-old has a tough task on his hands given that the Hoops have picked up just four points from 13 games.
But after a tax evasion trial in February, from which he was cleared, Redknapp is not feeling too stressed about the prospect.
"I didn't go away from Tottenham that night when Daniel Levy sacked me and want to jump off the edge of Bournemouth Pier. The next day I am up playing golf. I mean, what can I do? That is the way that I am."
Harry Redknapp Quotes of the week (http://www.skysports.com/quotes)
Asked if it had been the craziest year of his life, he said: "Yeah, oh yeah. Certainly. The whole thing was a bit bizarre, wasn't it?"I probably needed a break. Maybe it wasn't the worst thing that could have happened to me."

As for missing out on the England job to Roy Hodgson (http://topics.skysports.com/Roy+Hodgson/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif despite being the favourite for the post, he insists he was not fazed.
"I didn't go home that night when I heard on the radio that Roy had been given the England job and lock myself up in a room," he added.
"I didn't go away from Tottenham that night when Daniel Levy (http://topics.skysports.com/Daniel+Levy/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif sacked me and want to jump off the edge of Bournemouth (http://topics.skysports.com/bournemouth/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif Pier. The next day I am up playing golf. I mean, what can I do? That is the way that I am."
Redknapp has vowed to axe any QPR player who does not pull his weight as he faces up to the "toughest" challenge of his managerial career.

Harry takes charge at QPR

Redknapp insists Rangers' "nice" owners have not been given the results they deserved for the money they had paid for their squad in transfer fees and wages."We've got four points from 13 games, which is an incredible, low total. We've got to do better to give ourselves and opportunity to get out of this mess. I need people that are going to work.
"When they lose the ball, chase it. It's what you learnt when you were at school. That's what you did in the playground. I need 11 people with the ability to put effort in. And if they give that effort then we've got a chance of surviving.
"If they don't, they're not going to play to start with and I'll find another 11 who will run about and work hard."
He added: "I've got no time for people losing the ball and throwing their arms up in the air, and standing around with their hands on their hips.
"We're in a relegation battle, we've got four points. It's their fault - it's nobody else's fault. If everyone works, the ability's there. I've got to make them work and get the best out of them now.
"If they do that then we'll be okay, we'll survive."
Spurs and Portsmouth were also in dire trouble when Redknapp took charge and he transformed both clubs' fortunes.
But he said ahead of his first game in charge against Sunderland: "We mustn't kid ourselves. This is much tougher than those two jobs in my opinion, but I'm optimistic we can pull it off."

Players found guilty of using racist language are set to incur a minimum five-match ban under new proposals to tackle discrimination in football.

A fixed penalty for racially-aggravated offences was one issue discussed at a summit between the Football Association (http://topics.skysports.com/Football+Association/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and Professional Footballers' Association earlier this week.
Punishment for perpetrators remains currently at the discretion of FA disciplinary panels but high-profile recent racism cases has prompted calls for the authorities to clarify their stance.
Liverpool (http://topics.skysports.com/liverpool/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif striker Luis Suarez (http://topics.skysports.com/Luis+Suarez/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif was last year banned for eight games and fined £40,000 after an independent commission found him guilty of misconduct following allegations he racially abused Manchester United's (http://topics.skysports.com/Manchester+United/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif Patrice Evra.
Chelsea (http://topics.skysports.com/chelsea/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif captain John Terry (http://topics.skysports.com/John+Terry/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif was then found guilty by an FA commission in September of racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand during a Premier League match, incurring a four-match ban and a £220,000 fine.
The new proposal, which has yet to be formalised, is just one of several measures on the FA agenda.
Foreign players and coaches could receive cultural lessons, while anti-discrimination clauses are expected to be written into contracts, giving clubs licence to sack players proven to be in breach.
The PFA will not stand in the way of the proposed minimum five-match ban.
PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said: "It has not gone through yet but we are not opposed to it. We want there to be some consistency and to illustrate the seriousness of our approach to this issue."
The PFA also want all players and managers coming to England from overseas to have "cultural lessons" to make them aware of rules on discrimination under proposals to tackle racism. Until now, only apprentices have been given such courses.

http://www1.skysports.com/news/11061/8327164/

So Suarez, gets an 8 match ban, supporters get banned for life, and now players who say racist things can get 5 games.

Such nonsense.

The 20 Premier League clubs have agreed, in principle, to introduce radical new cost controls.

There are two main proposals on the table - a break-even rule and a cap on the amount clubs can increase their wage bills by each season.

Club chief executives have now been asked to produce detailed plans for exactly how these proposals will work.

These rules would mark a major change for the clubs, which made cumulative losses of £361m in 2010-11.

Champions Manchester City, for example, made a £97.9m loss in their latest set of results, which were revealed last Friday.

City and Fulham are the only clubs opposed to any spending controls, BBC Sport understands. However, any new Premier League rule requires the approval of only 14 of the 20 clubs in order to be introduced.

With the Premier League's new three-year television deals expected to break through the £5bn barrier from 2013, momentum is growing to find a way of preventing the majority of that cash going straight to players and agents.

There have now been six meetings of top-flight chairmen where cost controls have been discussed without any concrete decisions being made.

The next meeting will be on 6 February.

Harry Redknapp's availability ensured there was a swift demise for Mark Hughes, says QPR chairman Tony Fernandes.
The Welshman was sacked last month on the back of a winless start to the season after 12 matches, leaving them rooted to the foot of the Premier League.
And with Redknapp revealing he had been just hours away from taking control of the Ukraine national team, Fernandes says he was desperate not to lose out on the former Tottenham boss.
"Harry is a special manager," Fernandes told www.qpr.co.uk. "If he wasn't available, I would probably have persevered with Mark, but Harry is a fantastic manager."I've known him for years going back to when he was at West Ham. Harry being available swung it for us.
"We're all in this together. No shirking. Let's see what Harry and the boys do. It's up to the 11 guys on the pitch to make it happen for us now.
"If we can pick up a couple of more wins before the new year, we're back to where we were this time last year. Coming off a win and three draws, there's a bit of renewed confidence about the place now."
QPR are unbeaten in four matches since Redknapp's arrival and picked up their first league win of the season against Fulham (http://topics.skysports.com/fulham/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif on Saturday to leave them five points from safety.
Concerning stories that Fernandes would jump ship if they suffered the drop, the Air Asia owner added: "Come what may, in May, we'll still be here.
"I'm firmly committed to the club. I'm not someone who's going to run away from things. There are still a lot of good things happening. The training ground is well on track and the stadium plans are progressing.
"We're hopeful of getting category two status in the Academy. There's no change to our off-the-field strategy. There are lots of good things going on.
"We inherited a club that needed a hell of a lot of work and we'll continue to progress with our short, medium and long term goals. I'm a strong character who has been through a hell of a lot in life.
"The aviation business isn't for those with a weak heart. But I've got to say, the run of results - before Harry came in - really affected me. It's been really tough.
"I'm the leader and it's a great shame that after so much honest effort, we are where we are in the table."

Sky Sports understands that Loic Remy would be keen on a move to Newcastle in January.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a realistic option for Newcastle in the New Year, as the long-term future of Demba Ba remains unclear.

Ba's current deal means an offer of £7.5million would be enough to take him from Newcastle.

The Magpies hope Ba will sign a new deal, but they are understood to be making plans should he leave and one of those is Remy - who has previously interested Tottenham and QPR.

Newcastle already have a strong French contingent and that is believed to appeal to Remy - who is keen to try his hand in England.

"They are a very good team," Remy told Sky Sports when asked about Newcastle."They are a big club with good players, very good fans and a nice stadium that is always full."

Reports claim that Newcastle are already in talks with Marseille over a deal - but Remy insists he knows nothing about that.

He said: "The window opens in January, and there will be speculation from now until the window closes - if I have to leave then all parties must be happy.

"I have a contract so let's wait and see what happens."

Punditry has to be at an all time low.

Nevin is quite possibly the stupidest man on television/radio. With so many strong contenders ranging from She-Ra, Chiles and Gabby Yorath to Phillip Schofield, Claudia Winkleman and Ortis Deley, it is a special achievement. The ridiculously overt Chelsea bias just makes listening to him all the more compelling.

At least Merse knows he's a clown.

That all the others exert their 100% wrong, non-researched, ill-thought-out opinions with with such self-confidence really makes you despair.

The Trotters' manager reveals that the 21-year-old has had his phone confiscated in a bid to curb the frequency of how much he uses social media, in an attempt to settle him down

Bolton manager Dougie Freedman has revealed striker Marvin Sordell is receiving help for an "obsession" with social media.

The 21-year-old has made just 13 appearances for the Trotters since a £3 million move from Watford almost a year ago, although started his first game since August in Saturday's 2-2 FA Cup draw with Sunderland, getting on the scoresheet in the process.

Sordell was subjected to racist abuse on Twitter after the Trotters game at Millwall earlier this season, but remains a prominent figure on the site, with his manager keen to see his attention switched to footballing matters.

“It has been quite a move for him and he’s not quite settled," Freedman told reporters. "There have been small issues off the field with his tweeting, let’s not hide, and we’re trying to deal with it.

“It could be bordering on an obsession with Twitter and Facebook and all the things that go on with these kids. We are trying to work with him – by taking his phone off him!

“He’s never had a problem on the field. We have just got to get him settled down and help him with some of the off-the-field antics.

“I’m really excited to get one or two of the younger lads in the team and Marvin is only 21 so it’s going to take time. I have been here a couple of months now and I think we’re seeing glimmers of hope now with him.” :haha:

THE FA are ready to break with tradition by rebranding Wembley Stadium to include the name of a sponsor.
Known as the world’s most famous sporting venue, Wembley has always been free of big-money commercial deals.
But the beautiful game’s national stadium is likely to become known as 'Wembley Stadium in association with EE' or something similar after FA bigwigs reportedly reached an agreement with the 4G mobile phone provider.

At least 30 people have died in Port Said, officials say, in clashes sparked by the sentencing to death of 21 local people over football riots in Egypt.

Supporters of the defendants tried to storm the prison holding them and attacked police stations.

The 21 were sentenced over riots which killed 74 people after a football game at Port Said stadium last February.
