Probably have a better record against West Ham than we do any other club in the league (well maybe barring Everton or Newcastle)

I somehow doubt this will be the same spanking we gave them in February, in fact I think will be a tough game as they did to Newcastle on Monday what they did to us at the Emirates just after Christmas last year. So fair to say absolutely vital we get the first goal in this game (although in fairness, it’s probably absolutely vital we get the first goal in most games)

Encouraging that we have players finding their form again, still not completely confident about Declan Rice but if Havertz, Martinelli, Saka and Trossard have their shooting boots on we should be able to navigate not only this game but every game this month

I can’t see Nwaneri starting but I’d like to see him get some significant game time

Have to keep the momentum building here. West Ham have been terrible but that win at Newcastle did raise some eyebrows so we probably won’t have it all our own way.

1-2.

We need to keep rotating and West Ham are crap, this should be enough

Raya
Timber
Saliba
Kiwior
Cala
Jorg
Rice
Nwaneri
Sterling
Trossard
Jesus

There’s rotation and there’s significantly weakening the team you put out. Sterling and Jesus are just about competent enough to be played in league cup matches, and maybe the remaining champions league games should we qualify early.

Basically you’d be asking Trossard and Nwaneri to carry the attack.

Fine if you want to say rest Saka and Martinelli and play Jesus on the right and Trossard on the left , but Havertz didn’t start last weekend so doesn’t need to be rested. The sensible option would be to try and win games in the first half, and then take off players like him and Saka early….and then it doesn’t matter if you’ve got two players incapable of doing anything worthwhile in attack.

Also have grave misgivings about starting with Kiwior

Yes I actually agree and thought as much when posting, I'd be happy with half those changes tbh.

We should remember Sterling got an assist v Forest though

And I think Kiwior is good but he worried me slightly when coming on v Sporting, but then anyone replacing Saliba is on a hiding to nothing

I suppose my concern is, whilst I still state that it’s far too early to be unduly concerned by a 9 point deficit to Liverpool. At the same time we have to do our part in hopefully eating away at that lead and that whilst we need to be able to call upon squad resources beyond the strongest XI we need to balance that with we need to make sure we win games and I’m not sure entirely how conducive that is to allowing certain players to play themselves back into form.

Difficult balancing act. Even though we both lament Arteta’s decision making, I’m sure we both concede that there are few easy decisions

Partey and Merino are out.

Back to normality with Partey then.

Classic Partey, always crocked once he finds his form.

Are we sure it's injury and not rotation?

Merino's better than you think, you're digging yourself another grave to lie in

If they were on the bench it would be rotation

Merino has a knee injury, Partey has a muscle issue

The best thing that can be said about Merino is that he’s an average player. Average is fine for mid table teams, but he lacks the speed, the physicality and technical ability to be anything more

Merino strikes me as the new Xhaka but with more brain and fewer bookings, if he's used in the right way he'll be useful but this is now his second injury already (albeit the first was a freak accident) so that's a concern

I don’t see it, whilst he has more defensive awareness than Xhaka I don’t think he’s got the passing range on him

Big one vs United midweek. Let’s keep it moving.

Didn't watch because they were debasing the sport with that political fag BS again. Never did see the rule that said that lot weren't allowed to buy tickets, never did know how that lot had swung it so they could debase our club and tarnish the shirt. Ah well, at least it's only a week of it. Back to normal next week.
