Pretty much doesn't matter what team we put out, if we can't win this one, we might as well give up

that said, 0-3 DCL hatter

Yeah. I hope we win, tbh. If we don't then let's just all pack up and go home.

Another team that will play with eleven behind the ball, if it was being played at Goodison Park I’d be worried given how wasteful we’ve been in the last two games but I think it will be one of those games where we might take a while to open the scoring but when we do it will end up in a comfortable win (or certainly I hope so)

Subs: Neto, Tierney, Kiwior, Partey, Jorginho, Trossard, Nwaneri, Sterling, Jesus

Everton: Pickford, Young, Mykolenko, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mangala, Gueye, Doucoure, Ndiaye, Harrison, Calvert-Lewin.
Subs: Virginia, Patterson, Keane, Beto, O'Brien, Broja, Coleman, Lindstrom, Armstrong.

I’d rather Partey than Merino be playing but otherwise not a bad line up, young Lewis-Skelly did well on Wednesday night. I think if he continues to get first team experience…we can sell off Tomiyasu and Zinchenko and not have to go into the market for yet another defender as we’d have 7 players covering 4 positions.

Bit sloppy in execution, but again this Everton side are all doing the deep block. Hard to break that down when you’ve got clinical finishers

Started watching a bit late, but it has been pretty predictable.

Unfortunately, the best chances have all fallen to Odegaard in the middle and most of them were wasted thanks to his usual 30 nano seconds delay.

Everton have dealt brilliantly with every ball we've lobbed over which is usually 98% of our attacking play anytime Havertz starts a game. I wish they could just take a cue from how they played against Forest and try a few ground balls, even Havertz would probably benefit more from that.

Its not looking to good, Everton seems to have our attack totally figured out and it looks like only a mistake from them will get us ahead. But then you have to hope the mistake falls to the right player, which at the moment is only one person.

As for subs...not sure. Merino has had a good game but maybe Partey could still be helpful. Trossard for Martinelli as usual....but most importantly it would have been great if we had another striker we could have brought on.

We could also try bringing in Nwaneri in earlier....who knows some of the chances that fell to Odegaard could have fallen to him and by now we'd be celebrating .

Here's hoping for the best anyway.

Arteta should resign on the spot if we drop points here.

Should but he won’t

Again completely on him. Because he’s such a psychotic control freak he has to make like for like subs rather than actually add an attacking player. Everton had one shot on goal and one corner in the entire game yet that stupid cunt is so worried about losing he can’t even entertain the idea of going three at the back, playing two up front, playing both Nwaneri and Odegaard.

Marc Overmars
14-12-2024, 04:54 PM

Not that it made any difference, but love how the match officials enabled Everton’s time wasting but hardly adding on any additional time

Regardless, shameful display. No point blaming the players. All on the coach

My stream collapsed on me (just like our title challenge  ) so only saw the last 15mins of the 2nd half.

Not much more to say.....this team is too predictable. As long as a team can deal with our constant lobbing of the ball and double teams Saka....the rest can do whatever they want, the game is 90% sewn up.

Truly truly pathetic....can't wait to see all the half chances the lesser players wasted.

Control control control.

That’s all Arteta values. Not actually getting the ball up the pitch as quick as possible.

This is something that’s been observed by all of us for as long as I can remember

There’s two reasons for it in my view, one the inverted left back role and two…playing two holding midfielders

An insipid, cowardly preformance by players and coach. Cut and paste my comments after the Fulham game. We are not winning the league.

HCZ_Reborn
14-12-2024, 05:11 PM
There’s nothing wrong with the control aspect per se, it is the prime reason we do so much better against the top sides. But we don’t appear to be able (willing) to relinquish some of that control in order to stretch the game and exploit space. I don’t think our attacking options are good enough, but our build up is so slow…Henry would have struggled for space

Like I said earlier, I missed most of the 2nd half and the first 15 minutes of the 1st half.....but what I saw was nothing special, I am talking about what Everton did.

IMO all we needed to do to break that team was to have players who are confident in their ability to carry the ball on the ground and make the best of the mainly shooting chances they would get.

Its not rocket science beating Everton, most clubs with lesser players have already done so. Odegaard needed to believe in himself today, he didn't. I only saw one good chance Saka had ( IIRC a through ball from Havertz shockingly) and it was definitely going in till a block. Trossard could play the ball on the ground before, but has dramatically changed his game now to fit Arteta's style. Nwaneri.....well lets see how long it'll take Arteta to coach him into the robot he wants.

Arteta's system's magic is that it requires the other team to make a mistake....how the hell do want to win a league or any competition if you are just relying on mistakes 99% of the time?!!

Lets not forget you'll also make your mistakes at the back too, but oh well.....still no need for plan B.

Dominated the game, deserve to win. We're great until the final 20m.

I think the success of our corner kicks is also connected to teams panicking and losing concentration. Besides Gabriel, there isn't anyone else that's great in the air (and that includes all of our forwards).

We had 13 against Inter but they just kept there shape and shut us out. Now I know that's probably the best defensive team in Europe but even they conceded twice to a 10 man Torino!

Arteta ball is all too practised and robotic.....what happened to flair and basics like taking a good old shot when its on??

Like have said the problem is further down the pitch. We knew how Everton were going to set up, they were coming for a point….so why do we need to start with two holding midfielders let alone finish with two holding midfielders. The insistence on playing all our attacks down the right hand side. You only need one defensive midfielder to play one ball out and then you have five players coming forward, seperate their centre backs….stretch the play….more players for them to stay tight to

I wish we did have more clinical finishers for sure, but we had the players today to win handsomely and Arteta fucked it

Another 2 points thrown down the drain. Arteta prefers safety over adventure. We have the players that can smash a team like Everton by playing at high tempo and balancing the risks with our squads superior ability. But the latter is being wasted. No point having players like Saka if the primary goal is to retain possession. I think we had something stupid like 80% possession today. Bet Everton were delighted with that. Means we played tippety-tap and keepsie rather than trying to win the game. Can't recall how many points have been binned by not doing what we can do well. Yet from time to time we do play open football, and we smash the opposition every time. Maybe I'm missing something but this league is there for the taking. Wonder why we are playing it carefully when it's a sure thing if we only take it.
