Man City vs Chelsea. Apart from hoping a stray Iranian missile hits the stadium wiping out both sets of players, coaches and owners. What would be the best result. A draw im thinking. I expect City to win though despite the midweek defeat at PSG

Huh, I’m actually surprised it took you this long to make that comment
Also I think I made the point that I don’t regard him as overrated purely because you’re the only person I ever hear of who rates him that highly. Liverpool fans? They like him sure but I hear more about Salah, Diaz, Jota, Jones etc
But you’ll be equally surprised to learn that my opinion of him hasn’t drastically shifted as a result of a brace against Ipswich. Strange that

Sunday afternoon fixtures have started, must admit have absolute minimal interest barring an amusing upset for Leicester against Spurs.
Also I don’t like fixtures being played at 19:00 on a Sunday night (Fulham vs United), doesn’t feel right. But then I don’t like Saturday fixtures played at 20:00 or for that matter Friday evening fixtures
You play Saturday 15:00 or failing that Saturday lunchtime, Saturday teatime. Or Sunday afternoon. None of this Sunday lunchtime nonsense either. Monday night football is ok because that’s an established tradition.
Add that to the rest of the things I don’t like about the footballing calendar.
- Champions League fixtures in January
- FA cup midweek games (they are for replays only)
- Staggering the last 16 fixtures in the Champions League
- FA cup finals before the season has ended or moved to 17:30 kick off
- World cups in winter

They can't play that game on Saturday lunchtime, when it normally would be due to Man Utd's involvement in the Europa League.
And because it's the TNT game they can't just swap that in to the other slots today either.
There's nowhere else to put it and avoid a clash barring it be at 18:30.
Of course TNT could have just not chosen this game, knowing Man Utd were in the Europa League.

I’d argue it’s the fact that they are 15th in the table (which is especially low even for them) and whilst unlikely, their current form means Leicester who are battling for survival have a chance, makes it a more compelling fixture than Crystal Palace and Brentford. Both Palace and Brentford will be happy with a draw, so it’s more likely to be a stodgy, attritional game
Man United are currently in a bit of a death spiral with Amorim already. He was definitely appointed by the board with a long term view but whilst I don’t think they were expecting dramatic improvement over night relative to what was going on under Ten Haag, they couldn’t possibly have anticipated things would get this bad.
Plus United in terms of talent are nowhere, but they still have one of the biggest fan bases in the country. Plus for the casual observer it’s still a kick to see them struggle.

Take away the hilarity of Spurs losing this game. I think this result (assuming it stays that way which is a big IF) could be good for the league. I’ve said a lot about how badly it would reflect on the apparent stratification of the league if the three promoted clubs go down again. Southampton I think we can all agree are fucked, but Ipswich have shown twinges of life at times (beating Chelsea for instance) and if Leicester can do something. It pulls Wolves into a real dog fight against those two.

The spuds are really, really poor. It's quite remarkable the extent to which they have fucked things up over the last few years. Same with Utd. They have everything going for them and haven't pressed a single advantage. These two represent the lowest bar possible and when we measure ourselves against them I suppose it's not so bad being an Arsenal fan. Of course we always want more, but at least we aren't them, right?

Of course I say that but this run of theirs is on Postecoglou, yeah they’ve had injury problems but so have we. He’s the kind of guy who is all convivial when everything is going well, but some of his post match interviews he’s been a bit of a prick. If they’d won for sure. The point is they didn’t think they had any chance of winning. I remember that game, I don’t think Spurs played within themselves…they played defensively for sure but they did try and create things on the counter. I don’t think a lukewarm crowd made a difference

Nah
Don’t get me wrong if by beating an opponent meant us getting The title and Spurs finishing 4th, I’d be all for that without losing a second of sleep
But for me top 4 as an achievement shows the perverse nature of football currently, and it’s simply not enough to want to play any part in Spurs winning a major honour.
Go back to 1991, if we weren’t already cantering to the title and we put out a weaker side against that lot in the semi finals I could have lived with that because the league is a bigger prize.
But going for top 4 which guarantees nothing when it could hand your hated rivals the title….the upside is just not enough

Cash - they are all playing for cash. Not the shirt.
Am I wrong?
Can we think of a single player who is so invested in his club he'd forgo the crazy wages, get a part-time job and supplement his earning with the privilege of the pennies he earned from playing for his boyhood heroes? That doesn't happen anymore and our society is 100% poorer for it. Not like I'm saying there weren't greedy bastards back then who though, lovely, this silly fool is playing for the shirt, more cash for me! Yeah, they were there. But I'm talking about the relationship between the player and the unwashed fan who does silly things like turn up n the icy rain to shout, GO ON [fill in name of local boy who they knew from the pub].
Okay, the world has moved on. We can't have that anymore because corporations have decided we need to do something different that unfortunately rips away the deep bonds and replaces it with the profit incentive. Realism, right? The acceptance of an evil cunt's agenda when nothing was broken in the first place. Get realistic, accept the world for how it is, stop harking back to times that can't possibly exists because (in the scheme of evolution) we are suddenly different creatures? Sorry, not buying. Fuck them and fuck them all. I know what shit stinks like because I have my own shit to compare it to. I woudn't grab it up and offer it as a great leap forward. I'd be to embarrassed in case intelligent people saw right through it. Trouble is we are short on intelligent people.

Funnily enough I had that thought when reading your diatribe which I’m not sure even how much it related to anything I was discussing, and wasn’t just you using as an excuse to plant your world view/rose tinted view of the past.
I wouldn’t take it personally. I have that feeling when talking to most people here.
But I’d have as much interest as buying into whatever “Utopia” you aspire to as I would signing up to those online games that pretend you can win $50 by just playing on them for ten minutes.
I don’t remember a time where football wasn’t a commodity. I was born a month into the season when clubs started wearing corporate sponsors on their shirts. I think trying to pinpoint any one moment in time where greed wasn’t a factor and fans not encouraged to buy into that greed and then suddenly it all changed is utterly arbitrary.
The difference as far as I can ever distill from your homilies is that you believe that clandestine forces operate in order to change human nature from its intended purpose. I think avarice is a key component in human nature especially in a world of scarcity

Nah, unfortunately they won't go down. Too many really terrible teams in this league for that. Same with Utd. 20 years ago both those sides would be bottom with zero points. But not in this league of mercs.
Yeah.
They’re too far above the relegation zone to get sucked in.
And actually I wouldn’t actually want them to go down, I’d miss their hilarious ineptitude. There’d be a danger they could actually win the Championships.
But holy shit how are they this hopeless?
What’s that, Leicester? In freefall are you?
Dr Tottenham will see you now
WHL much have broken the Guinness World Record for booing volume today

I’m convinced Fulham should win this one but just as Ten Haag would get himself results to save himself I think that might be the case here. United seem better when they are playing away from home.

Utopia? That's what you are calling documented history now? It ain't broken so let's fix it, and when it turns to abject shit - well what do you expect, it's not like it's possible to have what we had before we fixed it? If you can't distinguish the difference between football in the 70s, 80s, 90s and progressively then it's because you aren't trying. And you can conjure up all the secret cabals you want and then try to pin them on me, while I'll continue to report on the unchecked march of human greed. My explanation is far more credible than the one you have to invent for me so you can apologise for your lack of interest in the steady decline of everything worthwhile. I said lack of intelligence, but complacency is another cancer.

What I’m saying is you’re not an objective observer either with football or anything else about what’s gotten worse.
Not that I suppose anyone really is. I’m not trying to label you as anything, I’m often trying to derive a point to your monologues which seem to me to be little else but bemoaning the loss of a state of affairs that I’m not sure ever truly existed to begin with.
That you and I have incredibly different ideals is simply a statement of fact.
