I think the issue was that we felt if we bought a striker now we wouldn’t have the available funds to buy a striker in the summer

I think it’s a bit of a kop out. I don’t know how good Marmoush will be but worse things you can do than get off the mark with a hat-trick.

Everton were mainly dislikable because of the scummy spoiler football throat cancer boy was having them play.

Moyes actually gets them to play football, don’t get me wrong even at their best they weren’t super entertaining under him before but they had some decent players who could be eye catching

Marc Overmars
15-02-2025, 10:47 PM
Moyes is a decent coach tbf. Obviously not top level but for a mid table club you can’t really go wrong.

No, they've been equally shite and miserable under many other managers, Lampard and Ancellotti (I still reckon he thought he'd taken the Liverpool job tbh) being just two recent examples, Moyes is the only manager in the last forty years to make them look even mid-table

HCZ_Reborn

They were shit because they overspent on average players it wasn’t a conscious decision by the managers to be pubbers

And under Roberto Martinez they actually played decent football as well until things went south for him there

Well no I take that back slightly, when Koeman was there they engaged in shithousery when they didn’t need to.

Their ground (current ground) is a complete toilet as well. But I think more often than not how they’ve played is more a feature of their precarious economic status for the most part. I think we can probably look at how things were under Farhad Moshiri (who was the co owner along with Jabba the Hutt of Red and White Holdings) and say there but for the grace of God go we.

HCZ_Reborn
16-02-2025, 11:51 AM
But basically I don’t really have an issue with Everton. I don’t really have an issue with Liverpool either (although judging by many of the posts I make about them, many people would form the impression that the opposite is true). Truth is I respect Liverpool as a football club immensely, they play good football they are run properly and unlike City or Chelsea their success isn’t completely artificial.
What sticks in my craw is that they will win the league despite the fact that I think we are better than them, and without Salah I don’t think it would be close.

With City it’s depressing but last two seasons we were up against a relentless machine. I don’t think Liverpool are in that same category…that they’ve not fallen away is credit to them but I think ultimately whilst they’ve had injuries it’s not been to key players in the side. If Salah did his hamstring today and was out for the rest of the season, I’d be absolutely convinced that we probably would overhaul them. Because he is the difference maker, he’s the one that has consistently popped up with goals in games where they haven’t been great. But he’s also freakishly fit, basically he’s been the greatest signing made by any team since we bought Thierry Henry from Juventus.

Not even a yellow. Oh well - keep on doing it then you cheating piece of shit.

Niall_Quinn
16-02-2025, 03:22 PM
I can see where the ref gets conned in real time, because the filthy cheat put his foot back in to make the contact after the dive. So VAR has done the job here (but only because it is 2-0). System has worked.

Right up until the point where the ref keeps the card in his pocket. So incompetent after all - at best.

Because people keep paying so much to go see them, keep buying the "merch", keep subscribing to the TV packages.
While I'm not on board with your these about footballers being better back in the day, I do think it's true that a lot of the guys that get to the top level can't seem to cross, pass or shoot for toffees. Not consistently. Even Mbappe the other day - he's supposed to be the best in the world and couldn't shoot straight against City. Even the goal he did score went in off his shin

Niall_Quinn

Pathetic player, only won the five Champions league titles. But sure use the term du jour

Although he’s finished now, legs are gone…Fernandes getting no service. Him and Casemiro in central midfield are like one of those married couples in a loveless relationship, live in the same house but never in the same room at the same time

I think this United side is full of average, there’s no need to make things any worse

I know you don’t like Arteta being criticised because it jars with your binary world view where everyone’s a hero or a villain. I just find it a bit off when these Iberian types with an unearned sense of smug self satisfaction blame others for their own inadequacy
