3-0 Mick Channon Hat-trick
Southampton are the poster child for how painfully big the gap is between premiership and championship
Though honestly I went to the reverse fixture at the Emirates and I didn’t think they were that bad.
Results have obviously demonstrated otherwise
No Timber or Saliba for this (the type of thing that would annoy me half way through the season, but as it’s the last game of the season, champions league is settled as most likely is 2nd place…I’m not going to shed any tears)
Raya, White, Calafiori, Kiwior, MLS, Rice, Partey, Nwaneri, Martinelli, Havertz, Sterling (not singling Saka out, he just looks unfit)

This doesn't even deserve an "I hope we win, tbh", tbh.
Although I suppose on principle I hope we do.

If Arteta doesn’t play Nwaneri in this..

Should hammer them really, Southampton are appalling and now they're going down without being the worst Premier League team ever, doubt they'll be quite so resolute.
Weird shit has happened at St Mary's before but 1-5 tbh.

Last time we played Southampton on the last day of the season sway from home was 24 years ago
We lost 3-2
Although in fairness that was at the Dingley Dell

Can see us really putting on a show as a big thank you to the fans. Some loverly, open and expressive football, peak entertainment and a good day out for all.
But not really.
Dour, lazy, careless, slow, sideways and stupid. Plan A.

So our record on the last day of the season in the premier league era
Is 23 wins 2 draws and 7 defeats
It should be noted that we’ve not lost on the last day of the season since 2005 (2-1 defeat to Birmingham City)
And since 2011 we’ve won every single time on the last day of the season.
We’ve scored 76 goals in the previous 32 games and conceded 37
We’ve played 16 times at home
We’ve played 16 times away from home
Everton are the team we’ve played the most - playing them at home on four occasions - 2002, 2017, 2022 and 2024

Should win really. Southampton have already managed to avoid being the WOATs.

All over them so far, but one save from Ramsdale and Merino and Sterling shoot wide

Despite Sky Sports willing it to be given, no pel for handball claim against Rice

His first league goal since December 26th 2021 (away at Norwich)
Shame it didn’t work out for him here. Id attribute that to 50% Arteta and 50% his poor injury record
Hope he manages to resurrect his career back at Celtic

If Havertz doesn’t score, this will be the first premier league season where no player has got into double figures for us

Saka down injured. Whilst I don’t wish injury on him. Something to keep him from two pointless international games would be welcome

Ooft. Remarkable that we’ve finished 2nd really. But Liverpool aside no one has been much good.
HCZ_Reborn
25-05-2025, 04:58 PM
And Liverpool only finished with two points more than they did last season
HCZ_Reborn
25-05-2025, 05:02 PM
And we are the third highest goalscorers in the league this season with only city and Liverpool scoring more

Draws the curtain on a terrible attacking performance really, way below the standards it should be.

Not that bad when you consider we have zero strikers and even our attacking players have been out for long spells with injury
We are over relying on players that aren’t natural goal scorers to get us goals. And only Salah in God mode and City with Haaland managed more than us this season.
No question this season has been a disappointment and a lot of that is our own doing, but given everything that went against us…could have been a damn sight worse

Sounds like I didn't miss much. Scraped win against one of the worst teams in PL history - that's the bingo card complete I think.

I think you mean Salah in "not incompetent" mode and Haaland goal-hanging as usual. The standard is super, super low. And we managed to wriggle under that bar - that's the only thing impressive about this shitshow.

“Ange Postecoglou described the season as "outstanding" in his post-match interview”
:haha:
And that’s the difference between the two clubs. We finished 2nd and got to the semifinals of the CL and we are disappointed. They finished as low as it’s possible to finish without actually getting relegated but because they won the Carabao Cup of Europe they’re doing cartwheels
It’s like finishing top of the remedial class at school. Well done and everything but you’re hardly top of the school.

The shameless acceptance from them that the league didn’t matter because they fluked a cup will only spill over into next season as well.

I have suggested to a couple of Spurs supporters I know that Utd could be a cautionary tale for them. They kept Ten Hag because they blundered their way to an FA Cup and crashed and burned this season.

Nice cherries.
Well you could go through the list of defenders and compare to the "greats" we are seeing today? Or think about the tired old wingers of the past and compare to the magic of, erm, you know... somebody! I'll give it to the keepers - they have probably maintained a standard or at least got close.

My point is you aren’t comparing like for like.
You’re cherry picking the best players from past generations - and there are plenty to choose from. And sure, most of the players of today don’t compare. But most of the players back then didn’t compare either. There were a lot of cloggers back then too.

This goes back to people noting how "amazing" certain players in the league are today, so yes, I'm comparing these alleged wizards with actual legends. Of course I'm not comparing them to any of the journeymen that existed in all eras. There are fewer "cloggers" now because the players are wrapped in cotton wool and STILL they can't cross a ball, keep a shot on target, take a bloody throw-in... and so on.
