I commented on this on General football, but yes I think it probably deserves its own thread
We had tough fixtures last season and we did ok (actually quite well) it wasn’t until October that we started dropping off
We baulk at the tough fixtures but clearly they aren’t the issue for us

Happy to get the tougher games out of the way early to be honest. Always a chance that you play someone a bit undercooked compared to later in the season once they’ve hit their stride.
Saying that, Old Trafford, Anfield and St James’ Park as the first 3 away fixtures is pretty shit and throw the added risk of City at home into that then you’ve got the potential for an early season disaster.

Oh I've just realised we have an international break after Liverpool away, grim.
Keep drawing there so maybe we'll get a win but it'll be rough if we do lose.

pretty good effort by the FA to stymie our season from the off (plus whatever new automatic-yellow rules they make up which only our players will break)
Whether we recruit anyone or not, the fact we're leaving it late means new players have less time to bed in, while Citeh, Liverpool, Man Ure etc will already be fully up and running
some predictions:
AUGUST
Sun 17 Manchester United (A) - Draw
Sat 23 Leeds United (H) - Win (though tbh could easily be a draw/defeat, as they have 'promoted team unpredictability' on their side)
Sat 30 Liverpool (A) - Defeat
SEPTEMBER
Sat 13 Nottingham Forest (H) - Win (though I'm being generous tbh as they're bound to be better than how they ended last season and Santo is smarter than Arteta)
Sat 20 Manchester City (H) - Draw
Sat 27 Newcastle United (A) - Defeat
8 points from 18 - not a good start

Thank God for that, otherwise we'd have had to scrap the thread - phew

It’s funny that you comment on that, given you’re the one who a year ago demanded a seperate thread be made for season’s predictions like an autistic savant, because I hadn’t set out the questions in the way you were accustomed to.
Anyway, aren’t you late for your weekly Mensa meeting with Nuno Santo?

i can't remember threads from a year ago, I wonder why
In all seriousness do you not think it's just a tad self-important to tell another board member their thread is 'probably' justified?

Well I’m sure there’s far more recent examples of you being a pompous arse hat, but the sheer egregiousness of that one stood out to me.
The point of the remark was to admit that it made more sense to create a new thread as someone did, than what I was doing which is to comment on a thread which was about football in general rather than a specific Arsenal matter.
As for self importance, this is coming from someone who regards their own opinions so highly that they regard someone disagreeing with them as trolling.

The problem is you’re so spectacularly unfunny, like a fire in an orphanage unfunny…that it’s hard to know when you’re joking and when you’re being serious

meanwhile looking at the end of the season, if we're in the running (a big 'if') April is tricky but there's a decent lineup of games in May:
APRIL
Sat 11 Bournemouth (H)
Sat 18 Manchester City (A)
Sat 25 Newcastle United (H)
MAY
Sat 2 Fulham (H)
Sat 9 West Ham United (A)
Sun 17 Burnley (H)
Sun 24 Crystal Palace (A)

talking of previous comments in threads didn't you say something recently about butting in on someone else's conversation on here ?

Indeed. But like yourself, I couldn’t resist

If it were I'd have deleted the post.
What is it with people conflating my responses to things with things being banned or censored around here?!

It’s the standard social media thing where people don’t seem to understand what free speech is or pretend that they don’t
“That’s a shit argument”
“I thought you supported free speech”
“I do, I think you have every right to make shit arguments”
“You’re trying to shut me down”

It's the run in I always look at - as you say if we're in contention then you want the last few games to be very winnable.
The first 6 games is a pain but even if we drop points there and are playing catch up we do have time to do it. Come April you don't.

I guess. But anyone who has been around here more than 5 minutes - which is everyone - knows that there is little or no moderation these days.

Agreed and like I said in another thread, I can already see the excuses for next season building up.
