Oven engineer (is that a real thing in this age of PC?) arrives tomorrow. I stuck my head in the oven as advised and wrote down all the numbers I found. From those he was able to identify make and model and, once I'd described the problem, he seemed really confident about fixing it for an undisclosed fee. I'm sure that's standard in the oven repair industry and can't really see what could go wrong.

If all goes well I'll be back to cooking my oven chips tomorrow night. If I can afford them.

The effects are yet to come - then the "crying" will really start.

It looks now that the £15 allowance for imported goods from the ROW is also being scrapped on 1 Jan. Things like buying better priced goods from Amazon's European stores will go as well.

We get to pay more and jump through regulatory hoops for activities and goods that many have taken for granted.

Mind you, it is a price worth paying to keep Daily Express readers happy.

Why does it depend on the context? Did she die when she heard it? Did her leg fall off? Did she get cancer? What's the harm that was caused? Action and compensation should work on that basis. You can't go into a court and say your fee-fees were hurt, not yet anyway.

The whole thing's a joke, but people have put up with it for so long it has become habitual. You give "this lot" an inch and they'll take it to ridiculous extremes, and I don't mean Muslims, I mean beta people who never learned "sticks and stones".

They should have to wear a badge that reads, Caution: Easily Offended. Then normal people will know to avoid them.

Yeah. It's one of those "smart" thermostats, you download an app and yes you can make it do clever stuff like turn the heating on when you're coming back from something so it's warm when you get in.
There's two main ones, Hive from British Gas and Nest from Google.

Given our recent performance in undertaking large projects such as Crossrail or HS2, how on earth do the government think they will have enough charging points etc all built so that people can actually drive these new electric cars in just 9 years?

Kinda agree, but it's only new cars. It's not like in 2030 we're all going to have to turn our cars in and get a new electric one. In practice it'll take a lot longer for many people to transition.

They've dropped hundreds of billions on Covid and created a hog stampede for contracts. The end goal is not important, it's all about the money, who gets it and who picks up the bill.

Some people laugh at egregious censorship of crucially important information when it aligns with their belief system, then groan against it when their low importance entertainment is impacted. This lack of principles in the general population is what facilitates the abuse and causes harm to all.

Correct.
I had this debate with a colleague a long time ago.
We were debating whether 1,2,3,4,5,6 was a stupid combination to pick.
The actual answer is yes it is, but not because that combination is any less likely to come up than any other, but because a lot of people pick that so you’d have to share the winnings with a load of people if you did win.

Look at how mentally unstable that child abusing weirdo is. Not even Maitless can support he/her/it/banana. Life threatening, suicide, death mayhem and disaster, just because this deviant can't abuse young and mentally confused people. And the courts didn't even say she couldn't carry on her abuse. They just want somebody to check she's not randomly dragging kids off the street. Clown world.

I'd actually started to feel festive but then Boris Johnson gave us all a swift kick in the knackers on Saturday. The prick.
Although churches can still run so I did enjoy the carol services yesterday, that was a mini-oasis of near normality in an otherwise awful run up to Christmas.
Still in negotiations with the in-laws re Christmas Day. To me it depends what their neighbours are doing. If they're all going to behave themselves then I'd probably feel a bit bad rocking up and having Christmas while they're not. I'm thinking we might play it by ear, have Christmas morning and Dinner here and if the in-laws are up for it and the weather is OK we could meet up somewhere outside for a bit in the afternoon.

and ballsing up music generally, he replaced individual musical instruments - and therefore musicianship - with his washover wall of sound shite

should have been locked up for that alone

Interesting but it is hard to know what to do about this other than to be aware of it.
I think increasingly it's difficult to know what to believe when there are so many sources of information, you can always find something which backs up your world view.
NQ believes the Covid tests are "random", and sure he's able to find sources which back up his belief that they don't work.
I can find some which back up my belief that they basically do.
So who is right? Well, I've already shown the data which shows that positive tests correlates with hospitalisations which correlates with deaths.
So...either that data is wrong or the tests are a pretty good indicator of deaths a bit down the line which you wouldn't expect if they were "random".
