Irene Wust, dressed in orange, hugs her team as the final pairing fail to beat her time. The Dutchwoman is the Olympic champion, with defending champion Martina Sablikova settling for silver and Olga Graf winning Russia's first medal of the Games with bronze.
One thing I don't quite get...are they not allowed to play other national anthems in Russia? :unsure:

Charles Hamelin of Canada won gold in the short track 1,500m. GB's Jack Whelbourne crashes out and injured himself.

A second gold of the Games for Germany thanks to Maria Hoefl-Riesch. Nicole Hosp won silver for Austria (+0.40) with American Julia Mancuso (+0.53) taking bronze.

Martin Fourcade (France) wins men's 12.5km pursuit
Such is his handsome lead, Martin Fourcade takes a moment to raise his arms in the air as he approaches the final 100m. He glides over the finishing line and triumphantly removes his skis. Ole Einar Bjoerndalen was fourth.
A bunch of tired-looking athletes, gasping for breath, are now crossing the finishing line. There'll be plenty of lactic in those legs. Czech Republic's Ondrej Moravec takes silver while France's Jean Guillaume Beatrix will join his compatriot on the podium to collect the bronze.

Michel Mulder (Netherlands) wins men's 500m speed skating
Jan Smeekens raises his hands in the air as he crosses the line. The Dutchman thinks he has won but he hasn't. Michel Mulder, who is 10 minutes younger than twin brother Ronald, has won it by the narrowest of margins - just 0.01 seconds!
There is no stopping the Netherlands in the speed skating events in Sochi. The Dutch have now won seven out of nine speed skating medals, as Jan Smeekens (pictured) take silver and and Ronald Mulder the bronze.
