It's all about goals.
And you have to play for Real or Barca.
AC used to be in that group, but they're well, utter shit now. Tbh, I'm surprised Kaka wasn't in the team again.
Ronaldo's and Messi's votes were revealed:
Which player voted for who their top 3:

Messi put 3 Barca players, Ronaldo put 2 Real ones (Mesut) and Falcao :haha:
Gerrard put Suarez at number 3  , guess he wants him to stay.
Woy Hodgson put RVC as his number 3
Never thought I'd say it, but anything other than a Ronaldo win would have been a travesty. For those following him, Ronaldo has matured hugely, and his behavior off the pitch has changed massively - in terms of encouraging other players. This, together with the sheer difference he has made individually to his team's results makes him a worthy winner. IMHO.

A very good article and sums up why Ronaldo shouldn't have won and in great detail. I knew he'd win even though Ribery did the treble but that's how it goes. The voting system may need to be changed or the awards split by writers and votes because some of the voting is political.
Voting system does need to be changed, but every possible way to vote is open to being biased.
You could perhaps have a set system, eg x amount of points for a goal in the CL/League/Internationals , and points for trophies , but I'm not sure how they'd implement that really.
