Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra has played down rumours he is set to join Tottenham by insisting he expects to stay in Spain.
The 26-year-old former Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth star has been linked with a switch to Spurs all summer and a reunion with his former boss at Pompey Harry Redknapp.
Reports had earlier suggested that the White Hart Lane outfit were closing in on a €12million (£10.6million) deal for the defensive midfielder.
However, when quizzed on the issue Diarra denied he was set to leave the Spanish capital and stated his belief that his future still lay at the Bernabéu.
"The information about my departure is a lie," he told AS.
"There is no agreement from Tottenham and I do not think there will be."

Arsenal are considering an unexpected move for Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder, it has been claimed.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the north London club are contemplating a bid for the £35 million-rated Inter Milan playmaker, following their progress to the lucrative group stage of the Champions League.
Arsenal triumphed 2-1 in Udine on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott to secure their passage into Europe's elite club competition, and Arsene Wenger is now intent on reinforcing his squad.
The Arsenal boss' priority remains in midfield, after Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri both left the club in quick succession, while Jack Wilshere is also sidelined for a several weeks.
An offer for Sneijder, however, would come as a surprise of sorts, and whether or not Arsenal will be able to afford the Dutchman's gargantuan wages remains to be seen.
This has reportedly been a major issue in United's attempts to bring Sneijder to Old Trafford, with the Barclays Premier League champions alleged to be ready to pull out of the proposed deal.
Aye RIGHT!!!!! In our dreams!!
I'm rathere surprised that the media hacks have not come out in force with more bullshit rumours after the win last night. I thought t here'd be rumours aplenty flying around lol.
It's definately the start of the silly season. Maybe Inter trying to force the Utd move by putting out links with us. Would be funny seeing 2 folks that hate teh sight of each other in the same team. "C'mon, pas me the fucking ball you dutch bast....oh wait, I'm Dutch too...."
Was talking to someone last night about replacements for Fabregash and the irony is that the best 2 players i could come up both play for spurs
JENAS :ilt:
lukas podolski is worth a pop too IMO
Its not an actual list that is held anywhere as i understand it, the PFA hold a list of all free agents and when a player is "transfer listed" i think it just mans their agent can approach other clubs about his availability rather than them have to wait to be spoken to.
Before agents took over there may have been a central list held somewhere, the PFA again maybe?
and still mahamadou Diarra is a free agent
[QUOTE=KESSLER;34784]Yeh but as far as i know, there is no actual list is there? In which case how would the managers know who is transfer listed
Maybe the agents could actually do some good for a change and get together and compile a list of the players no longer wanted by their clubs. Then either publish it or pass it on to all clubs. It would help their cause too.
bit hot headed but maybe what we need, lee cattermole? and thats a serious suggestion!
Hmm, anyone get the feeling we're pissing about over transfer fees again ...?

Sochaux midfielder Kevin Anin has confirmed Arsenal made an approach to sign him.
Anin, 25, an ex-boxer and product of the famous Le Havre youth system, is desperate to quit the club and failed to turn up for training last week, prompting speculation he was set for a move to Arsenal.
Anin has now admitted there has been contact with Arsene Wenger's side but the Frenchman says talks failed to reach an advanced stage.
"There was an enquiry [from Arsenal], it went away and in the end there was nothing concrete," he told L'Equipe.
The defensive midfielder impressed on trial at Tottenham in 2009, but opted against joining the Premier League side, instead wanting to experience top-flight French football before moving to England.
He is one of many midfielders that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has made enquiries for this summer, with Yann M'Vila and Lucho Gonzalez both being looked at by the French tactician.
Thank fuck.
seriously though, we need some bite in MF, pongy is looking lke he might provide but he is just a kid still
