This is damage control. I won't Wenger gone by the end of the season because he won't change and can't coach defence or motivate the players. If he can patch us up on the cheap and leave money for the next coach, that's great. But I don't expect huge signings on Wednesday. It's not happening.
The £70mill - £80mill is in the public crosshairs right now, the bean counters haven't had time to hide it or spirit it away like they did with the Ade and Kolo sales, remember we had £30mill to spend before those sales and we still had £30mill at the start of this window, so that transfer money vanished somewhere. If we wait until even January there's a great chance we'll only have the customary £30mill left. It's a clever amount, just short of being able to buy quality if the wages are factored in.
