He was terrible in the league that season. He had the mighty Phillipe Senderos as his defensive partner for most of that CL run - was it a mistake selling him too? :lol:

It wasn't a mistake to sell him if his heart wasn't in it. The mistake was inadequately replacing him.

Nope, he wasnt terrible in the league. His season that year was better than Vermaleans first that all you were crying about and I believe we conceded less goals. The fact he had to carry Senderos throughout makes it all the more remarkable.

He was a good defender but never a great one. He was far too weak positionally and got drawn out too easily, similar to Vermaelen who you have it in against. Kolo got himself out of trouble sometimes purely out of his athleticism but that never works against decent teams if you get caught out in the first place.

Our defense struggled in the league that season, which made our CL defensive record that much more odd. And yes, that included Toure.
